Here you can nominate any word that is proudly South African for us to read in August.

Then we take the word we voted on and read a book starting with a letter in the word, or a author's name/surname that starts with the letter.

For example:

Z -
U - Uglies
L - Lover Eternal
U -

Nominations will be open until 10th of July.

AAR - Vein (that is if I am spelling it right lol)

Lauren Smith Depends which vein/vain you mean. Is aar the one with blood or precious metals in it?

Yay I love 3 letter words (I'm gone for 1/3 of August which means no reading then, so a short word helps lol)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments They are nice and easy, most of the time.

Well, actually...
it is the same word in Dutch and English. And almost the same in German. It has Germanic roots and that is why it is the same (or almost) in these languages. Since Afrikaans is a daughter language of Dutch, it is way more likely it was "stolen" from Dutch :D

I was wondering, since the nominating has dropped of a bit and I really do like this one, but we don't always have a lot of words to choose from. Why not also use words nominated the previous month that were not chosen? or has that been tried before and didn't work?

Not a bad idea! Next month I'll try and compile a few from a few previous months and put that in a poll?

I normally nominate mine based on what I'm going to read the next month.

I don't nominate since I don't know many words from Afrikaans and I always pick a word I like or think is doable. Like if a word has a letter twice it makes it harder in my opinion. I don't base my choice on what I am planning to read, since that changes from day to day. If I don't count the book for the mishmash challenge I have 8 books on my to read next pile. Some of them have been there for several months :)

Your plan sounds good. I was just wondering because we get less and less words every month and we have all these good words from previous months that are just going to waste.

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Yea I think that would be easier :)
I'll take a few nominations and then fill them up with previous months words if there aren't enough.

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments That's sounds like a good plan. Especially the words that got many votes but didn't win.
