David Hi Felicia, Bonnie, Kiala, and Veronica and all concerned parties.

To facilitate organizing our local group Amanda has setup a Goodreads Group called Vaginal Fantasy Texas and the subject of using/altering The Vaginal Fantasy GR group’s masthead has come up. We don’t want to infringe on anyone’ copy write by using your masthead or altering it to suit our needs without permission, so I am asking here in this folder, so not only we will get your answer but if any other locales chose to start up their own GR group they will know the answer as well, thus eliminating the need to answer the question more than once.

Hi David! I love that there's a local group starting up for sure! Is there a reason to start a NEW group? Could I provide you a dedicated forum topic that would help organize you here on this forum?

I know a huge pro of having your own group is events. Since Felicia gave me mod status for the G+ hangouts I've been organizing, so I can put the events on the calendar here.

I don't know if it will help, but I'd be willing to add anyone's local hangout to the calendar. We could make a sticky thread in this folder where people can post their hangout information and I'll add them to the events page? (Unless, of course, Felicia wants an army of moderators, but that could get messy! :x)

ETA: Actually, I think I might start a thread for that anyway, I've seen a few groups setting up dates and times.

Definitely interested in feedback around this. I LOVE LOVE that everyone is locally meeting up, but I don't want to splinter so that no one interacts via the group as a whole? So feedback, especially from people with local events is greatly appreciated. I mean, we could give each local group a dedicated forum topic (and it would just be below the homepage fold) so it won't confuse anyone, and then we'd put a stickie note at the VERY top of the forum in /general with links to all the local forum topics so new people know where to congregate?

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) We've been using google + for organising our events and some mild discussion. I wouldn't want a separate area completely because that would take away from the discussions here with a broader audience. I already feel like there has been a lot less on the threads this month.

David When Amanda started up this, let’s call it, satellite group for Texas members, I thought it was a good idea at first not taking in consideration the impact it may have. I would equate it to being in a chat room with 4200 members in it and then 10 or so members jumping into a private room to talk and discuss meetings locally/G+ chatting, or other topics etc. I can see now how that really wouldn’t be the case in this situation; however, and it would be a separate entity all together really.
As Vicky pointed out – and let me just say I am loving the improvements she has made as a moderator and applaud your decision to make her a moderator and her efforts as one– the one benefit to starting up a group is the event scheduling and the other would be the discussing of said events, but both your idea regarding a dedicated forum topic for those Locales wanting one, and Vicky already addressed the issue regarding event scheduling I think really takes care of the issue.
Thanks for your consideration and suggested resolutions,
David

Great! Happy to change it up down the line if capacity feels like you can't get the intimacy in the local groups, create sub forum topics if need be (or maybe just STARRED threads for the local Groups in the Local Folder, so there's a static thread for each local group?)

Also if each local group wants to designate a moderator and there's a need, I can promote a few more people.

Amanda (TabbieTales) | 0 comments Hey guys, Sorry for being AWOL. My computer has been on the frits and what limited access I could get on my phone wasn't working with Goodreads.
I definitely do not want to splinter away from the main group, My only desire in making the Texas local group was to meet people locally. My reasoning was that and because this is such a huge group that I feel like it is really easy to get lost in the waves of other users. Through no one's fault, of course! But having a dedicated thread by state/or whatever would be nice. This group if your baby (Felicia, Veronica, Bonnie, and Kiala) and I don't want anything to take away from that.

There are threads in the Local forum people have started, if you want to start an OFFICIAL thread, Vicki or I could STAR it so it becomes a permanent home for your local area, would that help?
