Hello! (:

Breann and I will be reading Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost this month for the Pick It For Me Challenge. Since we're both eager to start the book as soon as possible, we'll start reading tomorrow, July 1st.

Anyone else is welcome to join in the debate and read along with us, whether that's tomorrow or later on in the month. (:

Breann | 398 comments Gah! See, you only have to wait one day. I have to wait a day and well, only a few hours.. but still! Love the avvy BTW!

I've been so swamped with YA books these past few months that I'm actually getting sick of them and I need something spicier. *.* This looks perfect for that... it might have something to do with that cover. *chuckles*
And thank you! ^^

Now, I should probably go finish those books I'm reading ATM. :P

Okay, right now I'll try to catch some sleep, even though it's in the middle of the day here, since I only got three hours in after going out clubbing yesterday *sighs*. Hopefully I can manage to read a few chapters in the evening.

Breann | 398 comments Finally I get to start this! Yay!

Breann | 398 comments Oh Vlad. You are a complete narcissist. But I heart you.

So far I am really liking Leila. She totally kicks ass!

I read 6 chapters last night and I just woke up.
Leila is very likable - that Marty person bothers me though somehow, I think he's not being so honest. -.-
The electrifying thing is so cool. :D As well as the whole visions of present/future/past.

Breann | 398 comments I'm 75% done now. I might finish before I go to bed, we'll see! She doesn't let her "ability" turn her into a damsel in distress. Which I like! Mmmm... just wait until chapter 23...

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Uh I'm at the part where she sees herself in bed with Vlad. *chuckles*
However, I'm still not sure if I like the whole Dracula reference/re-telling. "/

Breann | 398 comments Yeah, kinda weird. I am liking the characters but the plot is just not quite living up to my expectations. I am off to bed. I will finish the rest tomorrow. With only 20% left I shouldn't be able to put it down :/

I'm almost half way through so far. I love Leila, the dialogues are perfect, but something's missing. -.- Vlad is basically the typical arrogant bloodsucker, however Maximus is great. :D

Breann | 398 comments Just woke up... yes, something is missing for me too. I love Maximus! *sigh* I hope he gets an HEA one day too!

Breann | 398 comments Just finished it! I kept going between 4 and 5 stars and went with 4 stars. It was a good read just not a spectacular read! But I will definitely read the next one when it comes out.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, you rated it very highly then. I still have one third left but so far I'm torn between 2 (okay) and 3 (I like it). -.- But I'm usually really harsh when it comes to rating books I read here on Goodreads. Still I'll read the next for sure. (: And I have to start Night Huntress asap.

Breann | 398 comments I knew it wasn't a 5 star read. No matter how much I wanted it to be! The last third will be better than the beginning. The plot starts to pick up the pace.

Samantha | 1381 comments I read this and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the chemistry between Vlad and Leila.

Breann | 398 comments Aleksandra, the book is probably more enjoyable if you have read the Night Huntress books. There was a lot of build up with Vlad in those books and as readers we were salivating for his book!

They did have great chemistry and she totally kicks ass.

Okay I finished it hurrah! Ended up giving it 3 stars. To sum up: I LOVE JEANIENE FROST'S WRITING! :D She can create perfect characters and the dialogues were phenomenal, Leila could easily rank among my all-time favorite heroines. However I wasn't that interested in the story as I was in reading the dialogues, due to that 3 stars. (:

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I finally got to start this morning (the audio version) and thanks to a trip into town and several mindless chores that needed to be done around home, I'm over halfway through. I'm enjoying it so far and I really like the characters, but I do miss Cat and Bones. :( There's something about that relationship that's just not quite there between Vlad and Leila, even though I do like them together. I can't wait to get back to it tomorrow!

Megan L Harnett | 806 comments Hi Karen H,

I agree with you! I am almost halfway through and I am enjoying it. It feels like to me that they are going to set it up to be the next Cat and Bones series. I like the characters in this one but I feel like they need to be explained a little more. Mayber further along in the book or series? No matter I am really liking it!

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Yes, I'm sure it's at least partially a set-up for the next book, but whether or not the series will continue beyond that will probably depend on the popularity. Either way, I'm enjoying it so far, even if the Cat & Bones magic isn't quite there - it's pretty close!

Megan L Harnett | 806 comments So I just finished this book. I loved it. I know this is crazy but part of me might even like it a little bit more then Cat and Bones. I don't know why but I do. I am looking forward to the next book coming out!

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I just finished also, and while I did like it a lot, I still think I like the Cat & Bones books better. I think a big part of the reason is that I really like Bones' snarky humor better than Vlad's intensity, but maybe he'll loosen up some in the next book. I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the story! :)
