Megan Hi, I have a brother who is very picky when it comes to reading. He just finished this series not too long ago and needs something new to read. He has already gone through the Harry Potter series and the first book in the Hunger Games, but other than that, he tends to stay away from books.

He plans to read the Heroes of Olympus soon, but I think he needs more options.

Please no books with a girl as the main character (his only exception is the Hunger Games). His favorite genres are historical fiction, fantasy, and fiction.

Thanks for reading and feel free to post as many suggestions as you like! :)

Justece He should read the Heros of Olympus. The two series at connected and I absolutely loved that series. He could also read the Kane Chronicles. It was an amazing series and it is also written by Rick Riordan.

SarahO A Way Through The Sea (Young Underground) by Robert Elmer The Young Underground series by Robert Elmer is pretty good. It's set during WW2 and follows a brother and sister.

Eragon (Inheritance, #1) by Christopher Paolini Eragon is a pretty good fantasy about a boy and his dragon. The book was definitely better then the movie.

And of course anything by Rick Riordan =D

Justine Saulnier i agree with all the books

Lily This one has a girl as the pov but it's a great book. It's called Maximum Ride.

Sara I LOVED LOVED The Amulet of Samarkand--the first in the Bartimaeus trilogy. It features a young orphaned magician apprentice who has more skills than his mentor, and who summons a demon well before he is trained to do so which causes him trouble! (YA)

Another Young Adult series--try Magyk which is the first in a series like Harry Potter, featuring the seventh son of a seventh son, a wizzard...interesting and different with great drawings.

Clara Any books go Eoin Colfer are good and usually dont have girls as the main character; I especially love the Artemis Fowl series.

Justece The Unwanteds is also a really good book and the Fablehaven series is also an awesome one. The only thing with the Fanlehaven is that it's narrated by both a girl and boy.

Clara Oooh, also try The Candy Shop War... I can't remember right now if it's narrated by a boy or a girl, but I'm pretty sure it's narrated by a boy...

Narayanan Puthillam I'd say hunger games.. Sorry,if you've alredy read it. I still can't stop obsessing over PJ though. Can't wait a second to read 'Heroes Of Olympus: The Mark Of Athena.'

Clara I know!! Can't wait until October 2nd!!!!!!

Lily I totally agree!!!

Another good series is the Ranger's Apprentice. It's about this boy who is chosen as the Ranger's Apprentice. It's a lot better than it sounds. The characters even burn a bridge somewhere in the series! I sound like an idiot! But seriosly, it's a great book.

Johns If he wanted to read just a single book not in a series, I'd say Wenny Has Wings. It's about a boy who's sister dies and so does he, but they save him. So he starts to write letters to her in Heavan. Some's funny, some's sad, some's plain. It's written like journal entries.

Bianca Ella is right.. Rangers Apprentice would be perfect!!

message 15: by Lily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lily Thank you Bianca!

Meghann He should read J.R. Wagner's young adult novel, Exiled. It's a perfect fit for anyone who loves fantasy, sorcery, treachery, tragedy, adventure and excitement! It's also part of a series, so if he really likes the first one there are more to come!

Erica Sweet Venom by Tara Lynn Childs. It's the only other modern teen greek mythology book that can compare to Rick Riordan's. Instead of demigods, the stars are descendents of Medusa.

Johns Series of Unfortunate Events? I haven't read it, but my friend did and he said it was pretty good. Never figured out what it was about though....

message 19: by Zoe (new)

Zoe Snicket Yeah, Series of Unfortunate Events would be good. The Inkheart series is good too. Also, the 39 clues by Rick Riordan

ϟEvelynϟ tell him to read The Kane Chronicles!!!

message 21: by Courtney (new) - added it

Courtney Gone by Michael Grant.
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Maze Runner by James Dashner

Nikki Sojkowski Series of Unfortunate Events, Alex Rider, Heros of Olympus, Eragon, Amulet of Samarkand,

PENDRAGON I don't think this one's been suggested yet... It's about this boy named Bobby Pendragon and he's a Traveller chosen by Halla to save all the territories from Chaos created by Saint Dane (who isn't very saint-like) they travel through Flumes to each territory like first earth (past), second earth (present), third earth (future), quillian etc (I think there's 9 territories?) it's a really good series!

Marisa Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake
Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger Tempest (Tempest, #1) by Julie Cross The Warrior Heir (The Heir Chronicles, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima The New Kid (Paperback) by Temple Mathews Suck It Up by Brian Meehl and the Vladmir Todd Series

Clara I Am Number Four is good and it is narrated by a boy...

Madeline I think that Peter and the Starcatchers series would be a fantastic read for him. Peter and the Starcatchers (Peter and the Starcatchers, #1) by Dave Barry It's an action packed adventure that tells the tale of how Peter Pan acquired his powers, how Captain Hook got his Hook, and how they all got to Neverland in the first place. It's full of magic, adventure, sword fights, and even mermaids! The book really feels like it is paced the same as Percy Jackson was, and although it's long, is a very fast and fun read. The chapters are short, and the POV switches from what's happening with Hook to Peter, to the enemy ships and so forth. I think it'd be GREAT for him. :)

Hannah The Emerald Atlas by John Stephen is, in my opinion, one of the best books ever. It is in third person. The main characters are three siblings: Kate, Micheal and Emma.
The depth and growth of the characters is amazing. It is a trilogy (The Books of Beginning). The second book is coming out this year.

Tridib Your brother should try The Maze Runner. It's a trilogy and it's AMAZING. Main character is a teenager named Thomas. It is dystopian. Awesome fiction and some people I know claim it to be better than Hunger Games.

Julia Thirteen days to mignight is really good one.
Thirteen Days to Midnight by Patrick Carman

Hannah I think that he would really like Artemis Fowl I LOVED it and there are quite a few books in the series so he wouldnt run out quickly

Myssi Bianca wrote: "Ella is right.. Rangers Apprentice would be perfect!!"

Throwing another vote for Rangers Apprentice. For my son, who took a while to enjoy reading, very unusual in our family, the Percy Jackson books were the first he really enjoyed reading, Rangers Apprentice was the next series he liked.

Azhia Heroes of Olympus , Kane Chronicles , Maxium Ride & Lorien Legacies all good series my brother read them all & he's 11.

♥ Alexia -Team Malec ♥ Ummmm, i just finished the first book, and haven't read anything like it....all the other good suggestions ahave already be suggested, but i'll say them again.
The Vladimir Tod series, and the Inkheart series,

-Oh, and Reckless, By Cornelia Funke!!! It is awesome!, he will NOT be disappointed!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide, #1) by Douglas Adams

Serena Another Fine Myth / Myth Conceptions
Is funny and about a apprentice wizard learning "magic " from a demon (dimension traveler) .
A Living Nightmare
Darran Shan is first person boy who becomes a vampire. No romance - a lovely dark world to play in.
Shade's Children
What if you woke up one day and all the adults were gone? This novel follows children who survive because of the mysterious Shade. He is a grown up but no quite...real.
