I wrote Firedrakes simply because I enjoy reading fantasy and sci-fi fiction so much and wanted to contribute something of my own. Back around 1980 I tried writing a story with an old Underwood typewriter and a gallon of white-out. I quit at about 80 pages and filed the story, which has somehow disappeared over time. I started again in 2003, after completing a Writer’s Digest correspondence course, and by 2005 had my first draft. After two years of searching for a publisher I finally self-published the novel in 2007. The story is based on a simple premise that developed over coffee with my wife: What if the knight had to rescue the dragon from the damsel? The result was: FireDrakes, Chronicles of the daemon Knights. You can check out the first chapter in Good Reads, on my website or in Google Books.
