I agree. It's just a rehash of the Plum series with the exact same characters, but different names. Not much story, and I'm tired of the "cut and paste" writing that JE does.
I actually enjoyed it, but then I'm still in the first blushes of reading Stephanie Plum series so the novelty hasn't worn off at all (I've read about half). It sounds like you may have read most of the Plum series. There were some serious LOL moments in this book though, but I do think Wicked Appetite was better, more Wulf. Actually I also like that it has a Stephanie Plum feel to it, this is actually a big reason why I enjoyed it.... the tone of these books can lift anyones mood (These are my go to books when I want to laugh). Believe me I don't love all of JE work, for instance I don't enjoy her earlier books with the exception of Stephanie Plum. And I do agree, JE modelled Lizzie, Desiel and possilby Wulf after Joe, Stephanie and Ranger. I definitely see the similiarities. This is entertainment and I was entertained.
I have read all the Stephanie Plum Books and the first two Wicked books. To me JE books are a guilty pleasure, I find them light reading and they do not tax the mind at all. There quiet funny and you always know what you are going to get. Sometimes this is just what you need :)
There seem to be a lot of strong feelings about this new series. I think I was at an advantage as I read the Wicked books without having read any of the Stephanie Plum series first (although I have read the first one since) and I really enjoyed them. Perhaps there are too many similarities in characters to make them enjoyable if you are too familiar with the Plum books, but they are light, fun reads.
it really was I put it down for awhile then finally read it.. the ending was are you kidding me the book finally got interesting
I loved Wicked Appetite, but this book bored me. I purchased the ebook, and honestly felt the "reference links" distracted me from the story.
I liked the second book a little better than the first one. I, too, found the first book to be boring. I couldn't even remember the main character's name, even while reading the book. - I had to keep flipping pages to find her name. Except for Diesel, Wulf and Lizzy, I can't remember the names any of the supporting characters.(Even the titles of the two books escape me. See what I mean? Boring.)
One good thing, is I never thought that Diesel fit in the Stephanie Plum universe. He does fit in this odd place with the incompetent flaky witch and weird stones with their paranormal powers.
I'll probably read the series but will borrow them from the library; I won't be wasting money and bookcase shelf space on them.
I haven't read the Stephanie Plum series yet, but I do enjoy these books. For me, I don't put too much high standards on the books. These are just the books I go to when I want a light read that doesn't take much thought. That's just how they are for me. Her books are just something you can't take too seriously, at least that's what I think.
I also read the Diesel and Lizzy books before the Stephanie Plum books, but I also read book 2 first. I didn't realize that there was a book before! I loved book 2 so went back and read book one so it was somewhat of a slow read for me. I did like being given the background on the characters though and can't wait until she comes out with #3. This series got me hooked on JE books!!
Having read most of JE books (including her standalone romance books), I notice all her female characters have the same personality. The situation might be different, but the reactions are usually the same. Like Laughingfreak said, I read them for the funny moments, but I don't have high standards for the books either. but I could only take JE books in small doses, so I have to space them out.
I was expecting more since I loved the first book, but I didn't even read 100 pages before I quit. Same with the 18th Plum nook. Din't even get 3 chapters read before I almost cried from boredom. I wished I liked it, bc I was a fan. Now, not as excited about new JE material.

A. R. Tan wrote: "And after I read them, I forget what they are about. I see them as the equivalent of watching sitcoms on TV.."LOL. So true. All I can remember are the characters.
I like her books. I think they are funny and just easy reads. I read all the plum books first and then picked up the wicked series. To be honest, yes I don't really remember much about the wicked series, except that I laughed at the chick who thought she was magical, and the crazy spells she did. When I have some free time between books, or my brain is fried from all the homework I have, I like to pick up one of JE's books and just read for fun. If you are looking for serious books these probably aren't going to keep you interested.
I thought this books was a bit better then the more recent Plum books, and I thought she did a good job of creating a few new characters for this incarnation of Stephanie Plum, aside from the two leading men, who I can't really remember much about - I don't think they're actually as strong as Ranger and the other guy. Also, I had been reminded of JE when I read Robin McKinley's "Sunshine" - although I think that McKinley pulled it off much better in terms of creating more memorable characters and a gripping plot.
