Lately I've noticed lots of comments about all the series that people have got started. I was thinking about a year long challenge, where you aim to complete/get up to date in a certain number (like 5, 10 etc different series). Would that come under the Yearly Challenges - or Other challenges.
Then there is the Serial Reader Challenge - Here It is a year long challenge that you get to determine start and end dates.
There is a Super Series Challenge - Here
and it is in the yearly section. With this one, looks like you have to use the series title to get A-Z.
Is that the type of thing you are looking for?
I just finished the Serial Reader Challenge.Tried an A-Z series challenge last year - but didn't go so well. I don't want to start lots of new series, I want to get a grip on the ones I've already go going.
Charlotte, didn't you create one in the SOS group? You could create the same here if Yz is ok. I think it would help people to catch up on the series. I have a challenge concept similar to what you are looking for. I will be launching it anytime this week. So stay tuned. :)
Yes Vi, that was me, I wasn't really sure where to put it and I didn't want to step on anyones toes. To be honest it's only the second challenge I've set up - I don't get many good ideas!!!
Here I was thinking about doing another Serial Reader, but now I want to wait till you have the new one set up. Thanks for letting me know.
Just realize I don't have a host for the February monthly challenge. Anybody interested just send me a pm.
I'm guessing someone has as I just saw the Monthly Suggestions Thread pop up :)Woohoo, it's Fran - 'Yay Fran!!!

Fran was quick on the draw! You gotta love her. : )
Just kicking things off for the March monthly! (I was bored!)The name of March comes from ancient Rome, when March was the first month of the year and named Martius after Mars or Ares, the Greek god of war.
March's birthstones are aquamarine and bloodstone. These stones mean courage.

The Geography Read is my least favourite in the challenge, but I do it because I don't like skipping any portion of a challenge.Currently, the Geography read is 'Read a book with an author, character, or setting from (insert location). Could we add a component to this read? Maybe include a link to the location's climate or agriculture?
Using this month's state as an example, Kansas is well known for its extreme weather conditions, including humidity and tornadoes. It's also known for its agriculture; cattle, hogs, wheat, and corn. If its too late for April, could we try it going forward as of May?
This is how it would sound:
Geography: Read a book whose author, character or setting is from Kansas, or link your read to the state climate (extreme humidity, tornadoes) or state agriculture (farming cattle, hogs, wheat, corn).
Thank you for considering my suggestion.
Nice twist to the category, Angie. I'll definitely suggest it to whoever is the challenge host for the month.
May = Transportation month: Read a book with a cover that pictures something that is used for transport ie. plane, train, car, motorcycle, carriage, horse.
Legs don't count. ;)
Angie, I've modified the category with your suggestion in mind with a twist. Any feedback will be very welcome :)
Vi wrote: "Angie, I've modified the category with your suggestion in mind with a twist. Any feedback will be very welcome :)"I love addition of more options to the geography section. I usually avoided it, because sometimes I could not find anything interesting to hit it, but now with more options, it's easier.
And this way we get to learn about things that are famous for that country/region.

I didn't join that one, but was very tempted at the time.Apropos to nothing much, we had a beautiful moon here last night :)
Jane (PS) wrote: "Apropos to nothing much, we had a beautiful moon here last night :) "It was supposed to a special moon that seemed to be closer to the Earth (Hubby read all about it) but it was so foggy last night that we couldn't see it.
I hope we get a chance tonight.
It was a massive yellow moon coming over the horizon between our sheds. Absolutely beautiful. Will have to google why it was special!
It is called a Super Moon and it was gorgeous :DDD.G was right, it was on its closest approach to Earth, that's why it was huge.
It was too foggy for us to see it last night too, but I'm hoping I'll get to see it tonight - not quite full, but it's still supposed to be pretty spectacular.

I should have been but I needed to finish a book
Sorry if someone else suggested this: The other day a challenge idea popped into my head that kind of connects the Follow the Leader and Name Game Challenge.
What about a challenge where each book you connect books by character names. I've read 4 romance books in a row with a heroine with the name Sophie. The same rule as the name game could be applied where the character has to be somewhat substantial. Not necessarily a main character but more than just mentioned.
Oh and not only with the same name over again. Like say the main character oif one book was Sophie and then Sophie was a minor character in the next book which also had a John and then you used John to go to another book etc...,
Nice idea Mary :) I'll put that idea on the table and see how we can knit it into the future challenge timetable.
That would work well for a series reader. So many of the next boos characters are introduced early. I like that chain idea too.
Ladies,What about a RITA nominee and award winner challenge? It would cross all genres and maybe some people would find some great new authors in some genres they haven't read before. I've got the list of the 2012 nominees and winners (from the July 28th award ceremony) if that would help.
It includes books like
and
and many more.
Hi Amy!I love that idea! Would you like to create the challenge or would you like one of us Mods to do it? Or a collaberation?
I will run the idea past Yz and the other Mods- let me know what you would like to do :)
Thanks for the idea Amy. Dee and I are brainstorming some challenge ideas. If you have any specific things you want to see in it please PM either Dee or myself. Thanks :)
Hey Fran,I PMd you. I'd love to collab on this challenge!
