LOL! I just made out a list of fifteen choc bars based off Melissa's suggestion - I think they all work really well for a challenge. I sent it to Yz, last night. If she comes back with a positive for hosting, I'll incorporate the above as well, because naturally, some of my choc bars are more Australian - I don't know if you get a couple of them in the US. (I think they are in the UK and Canada though, according to Wiki - weird!)

The other excellent quarterly challenge suggestion that we can't forget to use was Lacy's suggestion of rock/music bands - msg 885. It it already a pretty complete list with 15 bands :)
@ Jane - some of your candy bars will have a us equivalent...3 musketeers and milky way....milky war (us) and mars bar
A 3 mustateers is an Australian milky way, and a milky way is a mars bar??!! How confusing!! Do the US have an Australian milky way equivalent?...so there is nothing in the US called a mars bar?
nothing in the us called a mars bara mars bar (the caramel and all that stuff) is very similar to the milky ways over here
the 3 muskateer is just the soft nought stuff, so more like a australian milky war
have I confused you yet?
Jane (PS) wrote: "The other excellent quarterly challenge suggestion that we can't forget to use was Lacy's suggestion of rock/music bands - msg 885. It it already a pretty complete list with 15 bands :)"I KNEW there was another good idea but I didn't go back far enough (lazy, lazy!)
Jane (PS) wrote: "A 3 mustateers is an Australian milky way, and a milky way is a mars bar??!! How confusing!! Do the US have an Australian milky way equivalent?...so there is nothing in the US called a mars bar?"
I think it's just called Mars here.
Dee wrote: "nothing in the us called a mars bara mars bar (the caramel and all that stuff) is very similar to the milky ways over here

Yup - it's hard to get my head around the bars all swapping names! I can see already that I was confused just with my query on the milky way!! LOL!
i've never seen them unless i've been at a speciality store...so maybe they have them but not common access
Is there a KitKat, Turkish Delight, Lindt balls (you have to have those!), Cherry Ripe, Crunchie, Picnic, Maltesers, Flake or Rolo?
kitkat yes, lindt yes but you got to look for them...cherry ripe nope, crunchie nope, picnic (yes, I think), maltesers yes (called whoppers), flake nope, rolo yep
Geez! Perhaps we make the quarterly challenge 'a trip to Australia to eat chocolate' - great thing to do for summer!!...Well, if no-one else has suggested a different challenge, I'll do some tweaking :)
most of them have equilvalents...or similar with a few exceptions...thinking about it, picnic and payday are close (but i'm not a fan for nuts in my chocolate, so I don't pay close attention to those)
Well, it is the name rather than the product that is being matched to the books - perhaps it doesn't matter that much that some of them (how can I remove Cherry Ripe!) are not found in the US??Mind you - there will always be the bonus options... ;)
My girlfriend in England sends me Crunchie bars by the bag full. They're absolutely heavenly! I've never seen anything like them here in the states.I need chocolate. Badly.
Hhhmmmmm ...... all that dark chocolate and cherry goodness ...... so smooooth ..... that's just mean .... I haven't got any in the house & they'd be my fav ...
OK - Cherry Ripe has to stay in whenever we do this challenge!! ;) ...I think my book classification wasn't quite as risque as your thoughts DG and Dee!! I went for older woman h or vampire novel...
Thought you must of. LOL. Not a term we use in Aus but I've seen/heard it enough on American TV/Movies to know. ROFL ......
If you're looking for summer themes, as one ever been done on things associated or which happen in summer? examples: weddings, sunburn, vacation, summer school, graduation, 4th of july, barbeques, baseball, beaches, bikinis.by the way there was an American version of the Mars bar that was discontinues years ago..it had almonds, nougat and caramel. the wrapping was a beige color with MARS in red
Another good chocolate bar entry: "Bounty" - Book with pirate theme or character who is a bounty hunter or someone on the run (maybe because they have a bounty set on them).
Possible bonus book: read a book in which chocolate is used creatively ;)
Jane (PS) wrote: "The other excellent quarterly challenge suggestion that we can't forget to use was Lacy's suggestion of rock/music bands - msg 885. I like the candy bar idea too.
Love the Chocolate Challenge. I'm keeping that in my list for a possible quarterly challenge. In the meantime, watch out for the approved quarterly challenge that will be hosted by Valorie any time soon.
As usual, you guys, are a great source of challenge ideas.
My favorite chocolates from overseas were the Cadbury Rose assorted box. It was bright blue and every chocolate in there was AMAZING!
Lacy wrote: "Jane (PS) wrote: "The other excellent quarterly challenge suggestion that we can't forget to use was Lacy's suggestion of rock/music bands - msg 885. You just have to be a bit organised, follow the previous format (generally, unless you are a whiz like Jim!), be encouraging and hold the line on definitions wherever you deem necessary :)
Courtney wrote: "My favorite chocolates from overseas were the Cadbury Rose assorted box. I presume they are still around - I'll have to check out the chocolate ailse next shopping trip!
I'm not quite sure what this challenge is but it's making me really hungry. Do you have Purdy's in the states. They're really good.Pat Amsden

PS: I do have a book out called Better Than Chocolate but the heroine has actually poisoned someone with her cooking before. You probably shouldn't read it for the chocolate.
Roses? Really? I always preferred Quality Street. But if you just want chocolate nothing beats a bar of Galaxy - hmmmmm creamy.....
The Roses were my Nana's favorites, so that's what we always got. I think they reminded her of her childhood. She used to send my Grandpa to Canada to get boxes of her favorite things to bring back. That was before she moved back to England!
Courtney wrote: "My favorite chocolates from overseas were the Cadbury Rose assorted box. It was bright blue and every chocolate in there was AMAZING!"my aunt named her dog Cadbury. They got her when they where living in England.

What a great name for a dog! Was the dog brown??
That works! 85% dark chocolate - rich, dark and no doubt very handsome!Aaawwww - too cute! I love dogs!
I'm not really a big chocolate eater but sometimes I just have to have it. I have three dogs that drive me crazy. Sam he is my heeler mix that will be 4 this year. Sweettie is on of my chi mixs and she will be 5 this month. And there is Caytie my other chi mix and I don't know how old she is.I could write a book about all the stuff they do.
Aren't they funny? 3 dogs sound like a handful! We just have the one - Albi, a 5 year old Jack Russell terrier. He is a hoot! ;)
