Courtney K (cklueh) | 510 comments I heart the Jim Spin. I can't wait!

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 561 comments At least we can guarantee there'll be no Historial Romance! Unless that is part of the Jim Spin - he is an evil genius after all.

D.G. | 4477 comments Great, Jim!

message 1006: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments have to admit, jims options are good...but once in a blue moon...lol!

message 1012: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments LOL - I used to try to count sheep jumping over a gate ('cos everyone said it worked - my sheep would be jumping, dodging, slipping under etc!!) but now I go through the alphabet matching a book (eg historical romance) to each letter. TOO many challanges!! ;)

message 1014: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Life had been crazy that I forgot that June is almost here.

I'm looking for a volunteer to handle June's monthly challenge.

If interested, drop me a pm.

message 1015: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments no suggestions for June are up yet either that I see. Let me see what I can find really quick just in case someone wants some suggestions.

Here are some of the
"Obscure and Wacky Holidays" for the month of June: , now to try to find a way to make them into 'read a book that' statements..... hhhmmmm.....

Hug Your Cat Day
Pen Pal Day - maybe a long distance romance or a newly reconnected one
Leave the Office Early Day
Doughnut Day or Donut Day - food is a part of the title, cover or storyline (restaurant, cafe ect.)
Cheer Coach Day
Banana Split Day
Write To Your Father Day
Upsy Daisy Day - reminds me of that show 'Pushing Up Daisy's', so maybe something to do with the dead walking (vampire, ghost, zombie)
Ball Point Pen Day
World Juggling Day
Nature Photography Day - great outdoors on the cover or part of the scenery of the setting
Recess at Work Day
National Splurge Day
Garfield the Cat Day
Take Your Dog To Work Day
Stupid Guy Thing Day
Let It Go Day
Hand Shake Day
Decide To Be Married Day
Make Up Your Mind Day

not sure, but I think the last 5 together could mean trouble.
So there are a few, ideas.
Help fill in some others so that whoever gets to do this for Yz will have some ideas to start with.

message 1016: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Or there are some notable celebrity B-days in June.....

June 12 George Bush (41st), June 17 Newt Gingrich - political connection, character or cause
June 21 Prince William - a pre-existing relationship (he is married now)
June 22 Dan Brown - suspense, suspense, suspense
June 25 George Orwell - futuristic, prophetic sci-fi type

message 1018: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments Some other suggestions:

-Skyscraper Month: Book set up in a big city, NYC, Chicago, London, etc.
-Superman Week (10-13): Book with hero that saves the day
-Summer Solstice: Book with a bright cover, with summer in the title, etc.

message 1019: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments oh, I forgot about the solstice.

message 1020: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments I also have family B-days 10, 11 & 12 (sister, daughter & mother) - chic lit for all the powerful women
maybe that should just be a personal one buttttt :)

My parents wedding anniversary is in June (to personal again - sorry), June is also the most popular Wedding Month - there are plenty of choices that have a wedding represented in title or cover (bride, groom, rings, ect)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I can't think of June without thinking of the perfect mother - June Cleaver. So maybe something with a perfect mother. Or perhaps something with someone wielding a cleaver.

message 1029: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments It's also a big month for graduations (at least in my area of the country) so perhaps a main character that is a student or teacher, setting on a school campus. Or to keep it broad, anything that has to do with learning.

message 1030: by Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) (last edited May 21, 2011 03:50PM) (new)

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 809 comments If you do the name challenge again here is an idea
use names from different origins

message 1031: by Trudy (new)

Trudy Whatnot Books (wnbooks) it might be easier that as you sign up you list the book and the person who signs up next gives you the title to read.
a - Scarlet
b - Lily
c seduced

a would read seduced
b would read scarlet
c would read lily

message 1032: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Yeah, I took a look at this site. Found some hilarious ones like National Sauntering Day (have a hero who saunters?) and some obscure ones like Name Your Poison Day (Wonder who celebrates that day?). I was having loads of fun going through the site.

Reminds me of Debbie Macomber's Blossom Street series.

I haven't read those ones yet. But I'll have to!

message 1041: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Starts with The Shop on Blossom Street - the main character opens a yarn store. All the following books have at least one person that we've met in the yarn store, and they almost all knit.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 809 comments I have a summer idea
how about a summer theme challenge
Challenge Duration: June 1st to September 30th
Read 10 - 20 books that has those words in the title

Summer
Water
Beach
Wave
Ocean
Sand
Sun
Tide
Fish
Pool
Hot
and so on

I just realized I need a new quarterly challenge since the last one is ending this month.

Anybody who has a good one floating around, (minimum of 10 categories), please pm me with the idea, and if it's chosen, be willing to host it.

Thanks in advance to any and all members who response to this SOS.
