Othello could be an interracial romance book. Macbeth could be a book featuring a Scottish king or a book with witches.

Funny, I was named for a character in Mid Summer Nights Dream and was born in April.

MSND - pick a story with fae or that deals with deception or jealousy between a couple or that has a multiple partner relationship in it.

Those are my favorites too. I laughed so hard after finding that list. Don't have a clue why they have days like that but it sure is funny to think about.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 561 comments St. Stupid Day - I love it!

Where did you find the list? I want to know which days are which so I can be sure to blame someone else on Blame Someone Else Day. :p

message 906: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments haha, not all of them have dates - got them from a couple different places mostly from squidoo. Here are a few of the dates .....

2 - Reconciliation Day
6 - Sorry Charlie Day
7 - No Housework Day
13 - Blame Someone Else Day
17 - Blah! Blah! Blah! Day
21 - National High Five Day

message 907: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Do you think someone was just bored and decided to make up random days and post them on the internet, waiting for them to 'take'??

...I'll certainly mark 6,7 & 13 April in my calendar!

message 908: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments I think you can actually make your own somewhere. They are not official or really recognized, but they sure seem fun.LOL

message 909: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i know some one used no housework day in the big challenge i'm doing...you had to read 2 books - a non-fiction about something you'd rather be doing that housework and then a fiction featuring a servant of some sort

message 910: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Some of them sure seem like someone who was really bored made it up, but others are on more than one listing that I found. Who knows, they were fun so I thought I would share some of them. :o)

message 911: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited Mar 15, 2011 06:02PM) (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I love them! If I remember correctly, 'speak like a pirate day' came from sheer boredom mixed with mischief and look how big that is now... :)

message 912: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments Speak like a pirate day is huge in Portland. We dig the pirates here.

message 913: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments haha, but how can we use Blah! Blah! Blah! Day in a book challenge??????

Walk on Your Wild Side Day or Take a Wild Guess Day could be used as to read a book out of your normal comfort zone.

World Rat Day , Ford Mustang Day or National Hairball Awareness Day could offer a book with an animal on the cover or in the title.

Blame Someone Else Day, Blah! Blah! Blah! Day or National Hanging Out Day could be a fluff book. A typical chic-lit or a sweet and gentle type.

message 914: by Lacy (new)

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1966 comments Blah! Blah! Blah! Day could be used as to read a book with girlfriends where one of the friends is a selfish me, me, me type person. For example...Something Borrowed by Emily Giffon.

message 915: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited Mar 16, 2011 02:46PM) (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Or - force you to read an author/book you had rated average (blah, blah, blah) or given up on, like we had in February. I liked that push 'cos it made me to read a book I'd been avoided (Lover Enshrined) - and now I'm back on the BDB series!!

message 916: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments All great ideas, LOL!

Blah! Blah! Blah! could also be a longish book (let's say over 400 pgs.)

message 917: by Rossy (new)

That actually fits.LOL

Reconciliation Day makes sense for the second b/c you have to apologize to all the people you fooled on the first.

message 920: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments lol, good point, I hadn't thought of that

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments April is well under way. Any May recs?

I suppose it wouldn't be group appropriate to say "May I?" - read a BDSM book.

message 922: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments that or maybe a book that pushed your comfort zone...something you normally wouldn't pick up

message 923: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I think Jim is perfectly happy and comfortable picking up a BDSM book ;)

But I like that idea, combining the two...

message 924: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Jim actually doesn't read much BDSM books, i think he's in the mood for it in May though.LOL

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Rossy, you are right. I really have not explored that genre much. The Sleeping Beauty books I read. And currently there is a fair bit of bondage in Swap. But otherwise it's been only light bondage in pretty vanilla romances. But I think if I could find one that was recommended to me...

message 926: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments lol, anyyy ways,

There are the obvious -
1 - May Day: Is spring celebrations to saint's feast day - could read a book that celebrates Spring
5 - Cinco De Mayo: It celebrates the legendary and victorious Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 - could read a book about battle, war, victories.
8 - Mothers Day: It is a day to show thanks for all that our mothers do. - Read a book with a mother in it
21 - Armed forces Day - another military theme or character based story
30 - Memorial Day

Then, there are the strange and unusual -
4 Renewal Day
9 Lost Sock Memorial Day
oooh, there is a
13 Friday the 13th - could read a scary/horror or superstitious type
17 Pack Rat Day - read something that you have had stashed in the closet for a while (longest on the TBR)
23 Lucky Penny Day - could re-read a favorite

message 927: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Ok, I'll say what I was thinking.....(sometimes I don't)
I actually read some of those also, but I think a lot of people might have a difficult time with that as a category in the monthly. If you want to use it I would suggest making it broad enough that everyone could participate. (like Dee said - push the comfort zone and maybe word it so that "like BDSM" is included)

Hmmm, i think you're ready for something serious in the genre that is not as extreme as The Sleeping Beauty.

The Reluctant Dom & Comfort Object. Once i know what you think of those two, i can better recommend something else, if you want to try the genre again.

I agree - give a wide range that includes the BDSM option.

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments The first Saturday in May is the date of the annual Kentucky Derby, the most famous horse race in the United States.

May 25 is Towel Day, in tribute to Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

South Asian Heritage Month – celebration of Indian/South Asian peoples and peoples of Indian/South Asian descent worldwide

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month – celebration of Asian and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

Jewish American Heritage Month – celebration of Judaism in the United States.

Zombie Awareness Month

May's birthstone is the emerald which means love or success.

Its birth flower is the Lily of the Valley

message 932: by Vi (new)

Yeah, i think that was my problem coming up with anything. I ended up drinking too much wine and in the light of day everything i had thought sounded stupid.
