For Nov 11, Rememberence Day, we could read a book that is the last book in a series or where something ends.

November is the 11th month. It's one of those months where we have lots of binary dates (eg 11-01-10). In honor of this we could have a book with a mathematician.

It could be a "series catch-up," if you're behind on a series. Basically any reading you're behind in, need to return to the library or friend, or just tired of looking at on your shelf. lol

A time also to regroup for 2011, too, and then add books to your Santa's wish list.

this is what was suggested so far:
Get 'Er Done - read a book that fills a another challenge requirement that you've been putting off/ a book that has been on your TBR for more than a year (or something like that)

No One From - a book set in, by an author from a state that has no one represented in our group on GR (I know Alaska is one)

Book Club Book - a book that is a book club read - either here on GR or another place (or if you aren't in any groups, a book in a group that sounds interesting

Binary Dates - book featuring a mathematician (and I would add computer guru)

I would also add
November is Thanksgiving - maybe something focused around family (because its that time of year) or similar

maybe something to do with Mythology - a book featuring an element (be it a god/goddess/creature)

11/11 is Armistice Day. You could do something with endings. The last book in a series (to date) or returning home after serving in the wars or something like that.

11/28 - Red Planet Day - Sci fi or futuristic

Black Friday - Read a book with a black or "dark" cover

* 12/1 - Anniversary of the arrest of Rosa Parks: Book with a strong woman as a character

* Holidays (Christmas/Hannukkah/Kwanzaa:) Book set during Christmas or with Jewish or African American main characters

* 12/31 - Anniversary of the death of Roberto Clemente: Book with an athlete or philantropist as main character

I was thinking along the lines of:

Angels: Feature in the story
Nativity: Story based on the Nativity or a story featuring a baby
Tree: In title, on cover or featuring in story
Snow: In title, on cover or featuring in story
Gifts: Set in a department store or shop
Santa: In title, on cover or featuring in story
Mistletoe: In title or on cover
Love: Christmas romance
Holiday: Travel agent or story based when H/H is on holiday or set around Christmas
Food: Chef, cook, caterer, restaurant
Alcohol: Vineyard, wine connoisseur etc

Bonus: Christmas in the title
Bonus: Your favourite feel good/uplifting book

That sort of thing.

Some non-xmas ones...

21 December - Summer / Winter Solstice (depending on your hemisphere) - read a book set in the opposite climate to which you are located - summer for north hem / winter for southern hem.

5 December - King of Thailand's birthday. His colour is yellow (worked out by the day of the week you were born) so read a book about royalty or that has a yellow cover.

Last year they discovered another planet (Romantically named GJ1214b) - so astronaut, sci-fi or space travel theme?

Henri Matisse's birthday - story where one of the main characters is an artist, is set in France or a cover that you feel pays tribute to his work.

Tennyson's The Charge of the Light Brigade was first published - choose a book where one of the main characters is a soldier or a poet, or read a book of poetry.

I need a reason to read some anthologies... Preferably in the monthly challenge because I'm reaching my challenge limits. Though if they were to come up on the random book list, that would be ok too. I guess it wouldn't be random if Yz tried to get them though. :)

you can always do them as a Boxed Set Challenge. (are we doing those and the Chunkster Challenge in 2011?)

I really like the read the month challenges, but maybe make a change and read the month in another language - i.e. how the french spell it, or the italians...it would be similar and yet different (and maybe get rid of some of that damn U's!)
