Did anyone else get confused when Prim died? Because I thought Katniss was dreaming it but she wasn't? CONFUSED :S

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

It wasnt a dream:/ why would you think that

Chelsea Denisse No it was pretty clear. How would you pick up that she was dreaming? And if she was dreaming it, which she wasnt, why would you be confused? It seemed pretty clear to me

Cat I thought she was dreaming AFTER Prim died. You know how it went on all about that bird stuff, it was so weird. I guess she was like in a comma or something then, but I thought the dream continued. I read all the way up to her meeting Snow, realized it was ACTUALLY happening, and had to go back and re-read it all over again!

Taggerung At first I was confused because I knew the bird stuff had to to be some kind of dream, but I wasn't sure if the prim thing was actually real, which I thought it was, or a part of the dream, and then I realized it was definitely real later on. That coma dream seriously confused me though.

Marie-Claude aka MC I knew she wasn't dreaming, but the whole thing was SO rushed that I was really confused towards the end of the book. Everything just happened too quickly and I couldn't really get INTO it as much as I would have liked. I really hated the last part of the book.

Taggerung The last part was way to rushed. She should have taken her time and really gotten into the descriptions like she had in the first and second books. I had no problems with getting confused for either, but mockingjay spent no time on each death and just rushed through each event without allowing you to comprehend it or develop enough emotion about it.

Bethel Yeah, it was a confusing part. I had to reread it to determine if she had really died or not. The end was entirely too rushed, imho. Still a better book than Twilight. :)

Taggerung 150% a better book than twilight! :)

It was confusing for a minute, because she just mentioned kids being in front of the mansion and not Prim directly. For me I didn't even fathom Prim being there, so I too thought she was dreaming when she went back to describe what happened. I too thought the ending was rushed.

Julianna Yeah Prim's death confused me. I had to re-read it a few times before I was like "She died!"
Too rushed, definitely. But I love Gale's parting and the epilogue so that made up for it.

Jesserie i was a little confused after prim died can someone explain that to me please

That! That's why I got confused because of the bird stuff.
But I'm not sure if it was just because I was reading it at like, midnight. So maybe I just got confused because of that

Well, I was reading that part at roughly the same time, so who knows, but I was too awake to have been that out of it, I mean it's a hunger games book. I think it's because she just plain made it confusing to determine where what Katniss is seeing ends and the dream begins.

Kirby I think that the main reason I wasn't confused by it was b/c I read all three books in about two days. it hadn't been that long since I read about prim's "duck-tail" in the first book, so as soon as I saw that reference, I knew that it was prim in the middle of the bombs...

message 16: by Cat (new) - rated it 2 stars

Cat I already heard Prim was going to die, but when I read the duck-tail bit I felt sooooo sad :(
She was just an innocent little girl, who had been flung into a warring world.
I was a little confused about the geography. So Panem is basically North America, what about the rest of he world?

message 17: by Cat (new) - rated it 2 stars

Cat I know. I actually felt more sad for all those kids than for prim alone. It was just an 'awwww....why'd that have to happen' kind of moment.

I was confused at first I had to re-read the scene to understand what the hell just happened.

I think the rest of the world was destroyed, didn't it say in the first book there was tons of natural disasters?

Kate There was a little bit of confusion, and more than anything, dread. I remember Katniss seeing her "ducktail" where her shirt had puckered out of her pants, and I felt the panic and pain.

But, after that, I was thoroughly disappointed. When Rue was killed there was such beauty, love, and closure for her. On the other hand, poor Prim was blown to bits, and with no real remembrance, or celebration of her life from Katniss. I was pretty disappointed by that. But agree, definitely a better book than Twilight. Just sayin' :)

Taggerung Kirby wrote: "I think that the main reason I wasn't confused by it was b/c I read all three books in about two days. it hadn't been that long since I read about prim's "duck-tail" in the first book, so as soon ..."

I immediately knew it was Prim because of the ducktail reference, it was just hard to tell whether it was another of Katniss' what-if nightmares or for real.

Tessa The whole ending of the book was rushed. I read like ten pages and stopped and thought "Wait.....PRIM DIED!?!?!?!?" and then I threw the book at the wall.

I hope you really DID throw the book against the wall, that would be an enormously amusing mental image XD

Dale Z Because everything seems to happy. So I didn't get confused at all. It felt balanced when she died.

Like in One Piece, Luffy's brother Dies because he was saving Luffy when Luffy was supposed to save Ace.

You see.

Shanna_redwind I had to re-read the section, mainly because I get names mixed up really (really) easily and it didn't clue in right away who Prim was. (Yeah, I know, that's a bit of a dunce thing to forget, but what can I say?)

Even if I didn't have the name problem, I think I would have been confused. I agree that it happened really fast, but that's probably what Katniss was feeling. Confusion and a sense of unreality.

Sylvia Taggerung wrote: "At first I was confused because I knew the bird stuff had to to be some kind of dream, but I wasn't sure if the prim thing was actually real, which I thought it was, or a part of the dream, and the..."

me too! i love The Hunger Games but i really hated this part :/

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, it was confusing. Was it ACTUALLY one of Gales bombs that got Prim or was this all just Katniss' paranoia? People always say Gale killed Prim by accident, but that was never defined. Does anyone know exactly what happened? No matter how many times I read it over, i think there's every chance it was Gales bomb AND it wasn't Gales bomb... Suggestions?

message 28: by Sara (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sara I think it was Gales's bomb, but he didn't know Prim would be there or anything;) I never actually found Prim's death confusing, but reading the comments I can see why it might have been. I just wish they had a memorial service or something because I think the story moved on before I had gotten a chance to grieve.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you! :)

Casey I kind of skimmed that part of the book.. and I didn't know she actually died until my friend read it and told me. THEN my friend said that Gale's bomb killed her... I flipped out because I love Gale!

Pauline i was more confused when she talked about herself being on fire afterwords
