Um, I was working on logging some of my books when I found found that the ISBN on my edition of a book (0345375211) didn't match the cover listed and presumed maybe it was another alternative cover edition. I generally try looking for one in existence before entering a new copy and found an edition that looks like my book's cover, but with a 9-digit ISBN listed (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/90...). It looks like one of the digits was missing. Three people had already listed this edition. I'm generally a bit wary of messing with the ISBN numbers of entries other people have made even if I think there was an error. In this case, should the entry be somehow changed to an alternative cover edition by deleting the ISBN in the entry? Or is there some other appropriate procedure I should use?

The erroneous nine-digit number corresponds to this edition. It would seem it's an alternate cover edition for that ISBN. I'll fix the ISBN and note it properly.If this is also the appropriate cover and ISBN (0345375211) for your edition, use it. If it's not, go ahead and create the one you need. :)
Thanks for the reply and changes, I just felt uncomfortable like I was stepping on other people's toes if I messed with their ISBN's. I'll just also add the publisher and publication month information to the listing since I have the book on hand.

I'll just also add the publisher and publication month inform..."Of course you're welcome. :) And I totally understand the discomfort; fiddling with ISBNs can be risky business, and when in doubt, it's definitely best to ask. As a rule of thumb, never remove an ISBN unless it's a case like this when the ISBN is completely invalid (as in, not even a real ISBN), and even in that case, it's probably best to leave a comment in the "change comment" field explaining the situation.
