Can't find where to put it? Then put it here...

Barbara Tarn (barbaragtarn) OK, I have a page of useful links for writers on my blog, so I'll post it here - it has everything from research, dictionaries, copyright, lawyers and indie publishing useful sites for covers, book trailers etc.

Book Gremlin Reads (bookgremlinreads) | 4 comments Hi Georgina,

I am looking for beta readers for various genres, mostly erotica. I am not a published author, though I hope to be and would love someone to read my writing and let me know what they think. I write mostly erotica (including male/male) but YA as well.

Might there be a folder for beta readers or writers looking for beta readers?

Thank you! :)

Beta reader folder up! One for formatting and another for small presses too. Links are good here. Post away. :)

If you have posted in this folder, and I have since created a new, appropriately titled folder for your posts, can you re-post in there please?

Thanks. :) Gina.

AC (ac_adams) | 2 comments I just wanted to say I like the idea of this group very much and I hope it will live for a long time, as I find it quite helpful and believe I'll be able to find here some of the answers to my questions. :)

Also, I was thinking maybe you should put up a topic for illustrators as well, since I believe there are people (like me) who'd also be happy if someone would ask them to do it :)

Hi Aria. :) I thought in the cover artists folder you could post separately:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

A new topic for each illustrator/graphic designer.

(Although I've stepped down as co-mod now, which was very cheeky, as I kind of roped Tricia and Jeffrey into the idea, then scuttled off and left them to it...)

Just downloaded this book. It looks very good:
The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Character Expression

"One of the biggest problem areas for writers is conveying a character's emotions to the reader in a unique, compelling way. This book comes to the rescue by highlighting 75 emotions and listing the possible body language cues, thoughts, and visceral responses for each.

Written in an easy-to-navigate list format, readers can draw inspiration from character cues that range in intensity to match any emotional moment. The Emotion Thesaurus also tackles common emotion-related writing problems and provides methods to overcome them.

This writing tool encourages authors to show, not tell emotion and is a creative brainstorming resource for any fiction project."

I will soon have a website on Weebly Named
It’sYourStory
Careful Editing That Respects Your Voice

Goodreads has been very, very good to me :-) I couldn’t figure out a genre for my 110K novel, but my own editor, who I met here, defines it as transgressive fiction. Scifi, horror, romance, strong erotica, and a protagonist who is far from a hero all play a part in the story of the relationships between three main characters in a near future world where the accidental release of a life-changing drug throws a new light on a culture on the verge of disaster from global warming and the clash between terror and technocapitalism.

I’ve done BETA Readings for about 25 people now, and most of them seem to think that my comments have been very helpful. The next step is to offer my services as an editor and I have three new clients so far. I charge $1 per thousand words and ask for 50% up front through PayPal. I’m not mentioning names, as I haven’t asked them yet, but what people have liked is honest criticism and helpful suggestions.

I’ll still be glad to BETA Read a chapter, or a few thousand words that you select, for Free, and I’ll edit a short story for a $10 Amazon Gift Card. If you like what I do on a short sample we’ll set aside some time so I can help you make your story say what you want it to. I will read just about any genre, although anything with a strong Christian slant is not my cup of tea. I loved “The Shack” though.

Thank you,
Jim Dodds
