The few I've read by him I've been impressed by, but I took my time in figuring out which titles to read: The Cellar, The Woods are Dark and The Traveling Vampire Show all of which I enjoyed.
I think that sometimes people want to like something/someone because they are told that it's great but when the feeling back isn't organic nothing will ever fix it, you cant fake true love and you cant fake loving an author and it's okay, someone else will :) I adore his stuff btw so no worries, you will find yours.
This post makes me want to re-read The Island.

Me, too! ;)
Me, too! ;)
One does not approach a Laymon novel expecting "The Great Gatsby". That's ridiculous. And Laymon would be the first person to start laughing at the suggestion. He told his tales, and his audience found him. And in doing so, opened doors for others, like Edward Lee. He broke the ground others are plowing to dust. His books may not all be homeruns, but name one author who could pull that trick off, after so many volumes. You don't have to be a fan, but you have to respect his place in the canon.
