I'm just still really impressed that the body count was so low in this episode. NOBODY died in a Game of Thrones special? Incredible. I guess you could argue that one person did fall, at least.

and Blue wine to be sneaky...

The thin leek soup was AMAZING.
The thin leek soup was AMAZING.
It really was. Suzanne made it as a prop. It was the most delicious prop ever. I ate all of mine.
Tamahome wrote: "You watch Sword & laser or you die! (And GRRM laughs.)"I caught that too must of still had his connection going huh? Great episode, Tom and Veronica are getting more comfortable, or it could have been the blue wine.
Tamahome wrote: "That's it. I'm pissed at Joss Whedon now. Where was Ant-Man in The Avengers movie Joss??"
Maybe he was there. Hidden under under a rock or squashed under the Hulk's big green foot ;-)
Best video show so far.
Great interview with George R.R Martin.
I loved the Paul and Storm song at the end with the Vork cameo :-)

Totally made my Friday; work felt like it was never going to end! The music video definitely pushed it to new levels of amazing. What was the blue wine?(I still think "The Rats in the Walls" is a great story!)

Did you read Tigana this month?? ;)

Pan galactic gargle blaster.Erick, I secretly love "Rats in the Walls," but next to the titanic Cthulhu stuff, it's just...so...
I caught so much flak for slagging on "The Postman," you'd think I'd have learned my lesson.
I haven't seen the episode yet, haven't been near WiFi enough. :( Funnily though, I know that one of my questions was asked. I've been an active member of another forum for a long time and someone posted over there that they thought it was cool my question got answered. I'm looking forward to watching. Hopefully tonight.

Haha, no flak. It's hard to stand it up to "Call of Cthulhu" and "Dunwich Horror", but I think I have a special place for it since it was my first Lovecraft story. Glad he got his due!
I taught a class on him in college, and he's brilliant, but if you read all of his stories in succession, you realize they're all basically the same two stories: eldritch, unknowable horrors that drive men insane or ancient evil from our secret human past, which also happen to drive you insane.
It will be hard to top this episode. Martin's interview was incredible! I really liked his philosophy on character development. I thought the blue wine bit was a little funny. Especially because your memory had failed you.
I really enjoyed the discussion with GRRM. I thought his discussion of viewpoint characters was fascinating.
Great interview. I was stunned to hear that they're working on the 23rd book in the Wild Cards series. I knew of about 7 of them.. On that interstitial, there was a blurb about GRRM writing about turtles when he was young. Was that true? One of his stories in the first Wild Cards book is about a superhero who calls himself “The Turtle.”
As for the Tigana wrap-up, it was interesting to hear a comparison between the writing styles of Simmons and Kay. I loved Hyperion but didn’t particularly care for Tigana. I was definitely in the camp of people who thought that the language was too flowery without cause, but I’m not sure it’s the reason I gave up—I just found it distracting. I thought he spent too much time working on characters without developing plot, which was my biggest reason for putting the book down (but I maintain I didn’t lem it as I might go back to it…I didn’t take the audiobook off my phone or remove the bookmark from my book). Oh well.
That Paul and Storm video was hysterical. Thanks for including it. :)
I want to watch the show, but I've only read the first 3 books of ASOIAF so far...are there spoilers past that? Are there any spoilers at all?
Caitlin wrote: "I want to watch the show, but I've only read the first 3 books of ASOIAF so far...are there spoilers past that? Are there any spoilers at all?"Seasons so far only cover the first book and parts of the second book. So, since you read the first three books, no spoilers...yet.

By show, I meant Geek and Sundry youtube show, not the HBO show.

Well, a lot of what was referred to was talking about stuff that had been in both the books and the HBO show. So, still, no real spoilers as the HBO show covers pretty much all of the first book and parts of the second one so far.
Loved the show. I was a bit AWOL this past month, since I had trouble with Hyperion (finished it, though) and couldn't get into Tigana at all, so I had my own fun reading. But now I'm back and I loved the new episode. Thanks for asking my question, I was glad to see it going into the direction I intended (since Jamie Lannister and the Hound are both characters that I love, even though they are not really "good" characters). But I especially loved the video at the end. Started laughing and had to turn up the volume to let my boss in on the fun. He's a ASOIAF fan as well, so that was okay.
I'm catching up on the S&L videos, since I only recently discovered this series (and Goodreads) at around the same time. My wife is a reader, but not a true sf&f nerd, but she does enjoy the HBO Game of Throne series, so she was quite up to watching it for the inteview (though she did interrupt at one point during the geekery to say, "You do realize this is all going over my head, right?").I found the Superworld reference particularly apropos, since I used to play that once upon a time, though one of my favorite things to do was create characters. Prior to that coming up in the interview I had paused the episode to explain to my wife about the Wild Card series, and how I was convinced it had its roots in Superworld, when only a few minutes later Mr. Martin himself brought it up. :)
And the video at the end had me LOL for real.
George's style has had significant influence on my own work, and I look forward to the next installment in the Fire & Ice series. You can always tell when a given work of fiction has had a profound impact on you when you can remember where you were when you first encountered it (in my case, my wife and I were in DC on vacation).
Love the series, guys. I'm taking every opportunity I can find to plug it. Best wishes and continued good luck with it.
