I know this is going to sound so cliche but I would have to say the book of life...everyday I learn new things, whether it is discovering them by playing with my kids or having a conversation with my hubby or a instant message from you best friend that can turn a dismal day into the best or just experiencing those hardships that life throws out your way and wondering if you were meant to be better because of them. I know that no other book would come close to that...I really can't actually pin point any book that had given me a specific life lesson but alot of them resound in the belief that all you need is love and that there is good in the world, you don't have to search to far, you can find it in the smallest of things. A smile from a stranger, saying hello to those that pass you by and just not sweating the small stuff.

and this book cemented me back to reading and I read everything...I love to write also...I just find that some of us are born readers and writers, artists and poets, while others love to figure out the mechanics of things or solve analytical problems...you really can't force anyone to read ... trust me, I've tried to get my hubby to read, who never picked up a book in his life, not even in school LOL he finds it boring, whereas we can get lost for hours in a book.

This may sound odd, but for me it was the Dark Duet by CJ Roberts.
Over the last 2 years I went from being a non-reader to loving YA to loving contemp romance to loving PNR, and then BAM I read Captive in the Dark. I feel like I was gradually making this progression with my reading, opening up my eyes to what I liked and didn't like. But I can honestly say if you asked me 2 years ago if I'd be interested in reading a romance story that was this dark, violent, and cruel, I'd tell you to forget it. Now, I find them to be the most profound books I've ever read, making me feel things and believe things I never would have otherwise. They brought out a side of me I didn't know existed (my twisted inner vixen LOL), and I just love my girl CJ for it!!

LOL, I have the most cliche answer for part 1 of this question-Twilight. Yep, I'm one of "those" readers, who ignored books until Twilight came around and I finally said I'd grab them up and see what all the hype was about. From the first book, I was hooked to YA fantasy, and it's all spiraled from there. =)
I'm in the same boat, I really have no friends in my area that love to read the way we do on GR! I'm actually in the process of working on my good friend at the moment; convinced her to join GR, now I'm working on getting her in some groups (ours, of course) and hooking her into some of these great series she's completely blind to. And it's not easy to do without sounding like a total fan-girl book nerd!! Part of me wants to just tell her to go read my reviews, because I think I write my feelings about reading far better than I say it. LOL

I don't really read creepy, scary. I used to read Stephen King a long time ago. So I'll go with one of his: Chirstine, Cujo, take your pick on that.

I can't pick one, to be honest. I just love to read. And I love different stories. I have to say that Shatter Me has taught me about the art of writing for sure. Mafi is a true poet.

I have always loved reading. When I was younger, my friend and I used to spend hours together just reading. We'd pick the same book and then lay around on our beds reading it and discussing as we read the same chapter, etc. I got away from it for a while b/c of marriage and kids and activities. But this year I jumped back in and I'm slowly making up for all that missed time! I think to get people to read, you yourself have to be enthusiastic about it. I just got my son to finally pick up the Harry Potter series, been bugging him for over a year. He's on the third book and he LOVES it.

Isn't it funny how many people were turned onto reading b/c of that series??!! You'd think YA fantasy books didn't exist before they came around, and the fact that it hooked so many people so strongly as to turn them into book fiends is just incredible. I think there are a lot of series out there that are better even, but for some reason that one just snagged a bunch of us! LOL

Has to be "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub. I think it's probably the finest modern ghost story ever written. It made me shiver Not YA, btw.

I know this will sound bizarre, but it's "The Shining". I read it when I was 12, and it taught me how not to fear the things that go bump in the night - which made me try to read every supernatural book ever written since 1979! So, basically, it taught me how to be a voracious reader.

My favorite holiday is Christmas. Honestly, if it wasn't for my husband's nagging, I would have my tree up all year round and constantly play Christmas music! I love the feeling in the air, children excited, Advent services, Nativity scenes, the glow of the bulbs, holiday shopping, the smell of cookies and roasts and everything comforting. Candy canes in so many different flavors. Seeing my oldest cat snuggling under the tree while the two younger ones are climbing in it, knocking ornaments to and fro. Holiday colors. Christmas shows; Frosty, Rudolph, Holiday Inn, Little Drummer Boy...Hearing the same song, sung twenty times in one day and not being tired of it, instead humming and singing along with it. Laughter, love, and peacefullness. Ahhh..do I love Christmas!

Honestly, I love scary things, but Halloween just isn't my thing. Don't shoot me! I don't know why I feel that way, but it's one that I could take it or leave it.

My mother gave me the love of reading. Growing up and to this day there isn't a day that goes by that she isn't reading something.
For non readers, I would find out their interests than go from there. Interested in gardening, find a book with an eloquent garden scene on the cover. Likes sports? Find one that intermingles sports with the story. Baby steps, than BAM!
Julie wrote: "I guess because the seasons are changing, it got me thinking ... what is your favorite season or holiday (or both) and why?"
I love summer. I love the warm weather. I just can't get enough of it. I'd rather sweat than be freezing cold. If I could move to a place that was warm year round, I totally would!
Holiday, well, I love Christmas. Not only b/c it's just a great time to be with family (as we celebrate all kinds of stuff for about 2 weeks) but also b/c my oldest son was born on Christmas. I am so not a winter type of person, but I really do love Christmas time, all the decorations, the holiday cheer. I especially love Christmas music. I listen to it from the day after Thanksgiving! I'm such a dork!
