You got too much fantasy in my history! Or vice versa...

Historical fantasy seems to have a fine line between known history and supernatural elements. Where should the line be? What is the appeal of mixing history and fantasy?

I dont know but i do know i love historical fantasy. My favorite was tales of the otori series by lian hearn she has enough of both to keep me intrigue. the heart of the ronin didnt have that balance between the two for me. I think i needed more of both in this book. But i do plan to read the second in the trilogy. The appeal for me is that if u can mix the two it becomes very creative story and the fact that alot of cultures may have at one time believed in magic, rituals or the unexplain, ghost make for interesting takes on peopke lives during those times.

Ann hite writes has a good mixture her black mountain series mixes the historical fiction(takes place in deep south in the early 1900's) with magic, ghost, mystery. i dont they consider her work historical fantasy but i do she has all the elements. It just that she has mystery to hers
