Ann Downer (anndowner) | 7 comments I am having an issue with a Goodreads Librarian removing an author from a book (Angie Fox, a scientific illustrator who is co-author with me and four others on World of Viruses from University of Nebraska Press). Because "my" Angie Fox was not "her" Angie Fox (author of paranormal scifi), this librarian summarily removed the name of Angie Fox from the book's record and messaged everyone who had marked the book to read saying "This is not Angie Fox's book!" This librarian has not restored the author's name or replied to my messages. Apparently she didn't even Google the book's title to check out the metadata before deleting Fox's name. I find this very worrisome. Isn't there any fact checking required before making such a major change to a book's data?

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments OK, she's on as Angie^^Fox, with two spaces. Have also added a note on the author profile to make it clear that she isn't the same as Angie Fox who writes paranormals.

Ann Downer (anndowner) | 7 comments But will people searching for "Angie Fox" always pull up the other Angie Fox, because they type a single space?

message 5: by Ann (new) - added it

Ann Downer (anndowner) | 7 comments Actually, searching for Angie Fox with two spaces doesn't seem to pull up either an author profile or the World of Viruses book. Does the page take a while to refresh or reload?

message 6: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments It can take up to 10 minutes to show.

Ann Downer (anndowner) | 7 comments It's been two hours and "Angie Fox" whether with one space or two just pulls up the paranormal romance author.

message 8: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Angie Fox is 'your' Angie. Angie Fox is the PNR author. It may be that it isn't showing as expected because she isn't the primary author (that is Judy Diamond). It could also be a caching issue, which would mean you need to delete the cache in your web browser and then try again.

Searches on GR won't be affected by local caching.

However, secondary authors don't always show up in searches.
