okay I'll have a think about it and see what I can come up with.
maybe benefactor, or patron or partisan or ward or ally or champion(which can also mean guard i believe)
Scout or lower case scout, patrol, defender, look-out, watchman, or you could call him/her the HenchMan which i really like as a person's name.
I also know the word 'colony' means territorial place so you could call the person Colonel______ or Sargeant ______. But here's what i recommend or like:
Scout
Henchmen
(Make up your own word if it is a fiction book or adventurous. It worked with JK Rowling right?)
Colonel____
Sargeant_____
If you don't like any of these, it's okay. But unfortunately these are all i looked up for you.....

LOL! That's great. Thank you for the help. I like Henchman but I think it might work better for a baddie! By the way Ingrid, I made some changes to my 1st chapter if you wanted to have a look.

Making up a word is also pretty cool, but it's not easy. I'm gonna give it a go though!

You keep eating pizza whilst playing on the computer you'll get fat! Say's she that just polished the last four chocolate biscuits off whilst writing!

The pleasures of being,in my case retired early means I have everything on hand should I so desire to nibble on something.
I get it but really its like walking past a laptop and a tray full of cheesestick wrappers, empty potato chip bags, and peanut boxes. I also love to eat raisin bread. Although my sister HATES raisins

Poor Sharon will self combust if you keep talking about food!
What are you writing?

I'm going back to my other house for some dinner - right now! Have a good evening ladies and thanks for your help!

No problems, it's cool working from home, lol you can go to work in your pj's should you so wish! And I do sometimes write in mine, I'm dressed today though!
I really need another word for Sentinel. It means guardian, protector, sentry. I love this word and it work well as a title for a person tasked with guarding or protecting something; the problem is I've seen it used in a number of books of the same genre and need something different. It can even be a completely made up word as long as it conveys strength, protectiveness and seniority.
Weird question I know, but I just can't get my head round it!!
