And sorry for overlooking that, which was in your earlier post. The perils of commenting while on a phone and one the move!
Bill wrote: "Ha, lol. Even more busy due to those pesky teachers then? I hope it’s going well!"No, I have good teachers. Just a lot of homework to do.

Hi Everyone, My name is Alix Sloan. I am an author but I promise to follow the rules ;-) I also love reading Middle Grade and look forward to finding book recommendations and learning what educators, parents and kids are enjoying.
Thanks so much!
Hi Alix, yes there's a lot of us about ;)
Do join in with things like the Book of the Month, it's the best way I know to catch up with what kids are reading, apart from noting titles of what the kids that walk past my bookstall at the craft fairs, have acquired from the charity shelf!

Hi, everyone! My name is Tiffany, and I just joined the group this month. Middle grade is my favorite age market and what I read the most. I'm also in another middle grade group here on goodreads and host a middle grade historical fiction book club themed around the American Girl Doll characters. I'm a Little Free Library steward, and I give away books instead of candy for Halloween too. Book access and the need for diversity in books/publishing is very important to me. I'm looking forward to joining in some of the book of the month read-alongs and some of the other group events!
Hi, I'm Scott. I mostly read YA but have been picking up a lot of MG lately. I'm a teacher in Atlanta and manage the school theater. So, I get to work with K-12 students.
Welcome, Scott. I have a son named Scott...and my son Paul is active in the theater, so you can see why I'll be interested in hearing more from you. And two of my middle grade historical novels are published that may interest some of your students. And welcome, Tiffany - I like your historical novel book club. Mine are not based on American Girl Dolls, but are set in the Black Hawk War era. Cheers for all your efforts in promoting books!
Welcome Tiffany and Scott. I hope you both enjoy it here. And you're bound to find loads of books you've never heard of, Scott - I certainly do (most nominations for Book of the Month unless they are prize nominees or classics!)

Aloha,I'm a fifth grade teacher in Hawai'i and middle grade author. My books are works in progress. I love to read middle grade novels and after checking out many genres throughout the years, I realized MG is my favorite. Thanks for this group!
Hello! I'm Rudy, an independent YA and middle grade author. I've actually been in this group basically since I made the account, but I wanted to wait until I had an author verification on this site before posting here. Also, I'm still learning how to use this site!
I'm a very active reader, so long as you count picture books. I work in the children's department of a library and my current favorite picture book is Why? by Adam Rex, because I think it funni. I will also change my answer about my favorite picture book every time you ask me.
My current favorite Middle Grade Reader is The Jumbies by Tracey Babiste, because it's a really unique "fairytale" about creatures I haven't already been told about a billion times. I was genuinely spooked by this book despite being nearly 30 years old and knwoing of course it'll turn out okay in the end.
EDIT: as far as suggestions, a bulliten for Books for Reluctant Readers might be helpful. It's probably the most commonly asked thing in the children's department in my library! I usually recommend comics, Dairy of a Wimpy Kid, The Bad Guys, or Captain Underpants myself.

I've never really been in a book group either, though I have been pretty active participant in some video game forums. Here's to hoping our previous skills translate to goodreads!
Hiya! I'm Rebecca King, one of the podcast hosts for WriteOnCon and an avid fan of all things MG. I'm momming two middle grade kiddos and because we road trip a lot we power through MG audiobooks of all sorts.
I am querying a MG urban fantasy and for the writers in the house, I did inherit a kidlit discord channel. It's small and designed for accountability and motivation through writing sprints. DM me if that sort of community would be of value.

Welcome to the group!
Hi everyone! I'm Jeanne, a retired pediatric physical therapist who told stories and did role play with 'my kiddos' to motivate them during therapy sessions. I started writing down my stories almost 20 years ago and have let my imagination run wild ever since.
I've published a number of articles and 3 books. My newest, a middle grade fantasy, is out with beta readers right now. I read a lot of middle grade because I adore stories that aren't bogged down with the adult complexities of love, work, and politics. Real life has enough of that-- I don't need to read about it too!
I look forward to learning from all of you!
Welcome, Rebecca and Jeanne. I know Rebecca's been lurking for a while, so any other lurkers around, come out and introduce yourselves!
Jeanne, I've recently realised I live on a different planet from most kids these days, so I am full of admiration for you, working all that time with kids in need. Looking forward to your stories :)

Try joining in the monthly book club (and check out the master list and previous group reads for some great recommendations).
Howdy y'all (that's my pretend North Carolina accent),I live in Cary, NC, USA with my wife and family and my dog Jake (not just any dog, but a talking bichon with an unfulfilled set of demands).
When I'm not writing MG fantasy novels (well, really just one so far), I'm listening to my dog (and sometimes my wife); or I can be found working on film sets, playing drums at my house, or playing drums at someone else's house.
Truth be told, I'm completely terrified of Goodreads, as I'm new to it and unfortunately was subjected to conspiracy theories first about it (e.g., "authors barely tolerated" :-)) and the truth later. As I've started to wade in, though, it looks like it's made up of a great (large) group of people who just genuinely love reading (and sometimes, writing).
Thanks so much for letting me join this group!

I don't think there's any need to be afraid of Goodreads, but then I stick to 'safe' groups! You're safe here, anyway, unless you break one of the unforgiveable rules - respect, tolerance, good vibes, support, great reads (and authors mention your own books only in the specified places :) )
The thing is, Goodreads was built for readers... what it is now Amazon owns it, I don't know. Enjoy yourself here, anyway -- and good luck with the book ;)

Greetings to all - I'm Jackson, an author and recent-refugee from the mess that used to be Twitter. In 2016, I rebooted my life and went full-speed-ahead on being a self-sufficient author. Writing helps me feel like my best self, and my love of writing middle-grade scifi has helped me connect better with people than anything else ever did.I live in the Pacific Northwest, I rescue cats, and I watch old movies. Happy to be here, thanks for being such a kind and welcoming community.

Welcome, Jackson, and I hope you enjoy it here. Always good to have some more MG scifi around, too.
I'm watching from afar to see what happens with Twitter. But then, I don't actively engage with it much, so maybe I'll just keep a presence there.

Greeting and salutations,I'm Kathy from Victoria, Australia. I'm in my mid-fifties and have found that I enjoy reading more middle grade aged novels and books written for early teenage children. They are often fun to read and very entertaining.
I also read classic literature, non-fiction, biography and memoirs, travel diaries published as novels or memoirs, and much other fiction.
Two of my favourite authors are Nalini Singh and Janet Evanovich very different in genre but each fun to read.
I'm glad I've found this groups site, hopefully I'll find some new titles that I haven't read yet here, to add to my tbr list.
Adieu,
Kathy
Hi Kathy and welcome. Apologies for any discussion of wintry weather when you're heading for summer.... it's been a while since we had regular antipodean members, even though the group was originally set up by a Perth MG author.
It'll be good to get new recommendations from Down Under, too, as long as we can get hold of them. (I'm usually okay in the UK, but who knows).

Hi everyone! I am new here, to Goodreads overall, and to this group. I am looking to meet as many awesome book lovers and authors as possible. As for myself, I am a newly published author of a MG novel. I had worked with children for over ten years, coached 6th-8th grade basketball, and am just a big kid at heart. That helps me as a writer, lol.I reside in the United States with my fiancee and our cat.
Anyway, I think I am starting to ramble, but I hope you all are well and I look forward to getting to know you all!
Hi Kofi and welcome!
I hope you enjoy it here. Goodreads is a mighty beast to negotiate now, but as long as you watch for author guidance and group rules, you'll be fine :)
Look forward to you joining in, possibly with things like our Book of the Month and A to Z Reading Challenge (possibly wait till 2023 for that!)

Hello everyone! I love childrens' and middle grade books, and I've begun writing reviews of them on my blog: https://newkidonthebookreviews.wordpr...
I wanted to be part of a larger middle grade books community, so here I am :) It's nice to meet you!

Welcome, New Kid!
We're glad to have you. Your blog looks wonderful, and I'm now adding more books to my TBR. As we're about to start a new year, this is a great time to join us. You'll be all set to take part in the A-Z Challenge right from the start if you want.
Of course, feel free to jump right into our Book of the Month (BOTM) discussion, if you like. December's book is The Jumbies by Tracey Baptiste and January's BOTM is {book:WARNED|59589295] by Mahtab Narsimhan.
We're currently taking nominations for the BOTM for February's read, the theme of which is set in Africa. If you know of a middle-grade book or two that you would like to nominate, please do so. Nominations close at the end of the month, at which point we will vote on which one we want to read.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We're a generally wonderful group who try to help as much as possible!

Hello Jennifer,
Thank you very much for the warm welcome! I'm so glad you like my blog :)
I'm excited to take part in group activities, and looking forward to checking out group discussions!
Hi! I'm Eli! I'm.... Just a child who likes middle grade(especially fantasy) books? I don't know if I'm allowed on here but.... I am! Anyway, I hope to share and receive many book recommendations!
Eli wrote: "Hi! I'm Eli! I'm.... Just a child who likes middle grade(especially fantasy) books? I don't know if I'm allowed on here but.... I am! Anyway, I hope to share and receive many book recommendations!"Welcome, Eli! We're glad to have you with us. As we're in a new year, many of our yearly challenges are starting fresh again, so make sure you take a look at those (A-Z Yearly Reading Challenge or the Series Challenge) to see if they interest you.
We also have a Book of the Month (BOTM) poll going on right now to select which book we will read in February. The January novel is WARNED: The Astrologer's Prophecy by Mahtab Narsimhan. If you want to read it, there will be a discussion thread for everyone who does to talk about it.
And since you like fantasy, I'll throw in a recommendation for a fantasy book I read a few months ago and absolutely loved. Skandar and the Unicorn Thief by A.F. Steadman.
Oh! I started that one, but the action was a bit slow to come, so I quit. I have been meaning to give it another go though.......
Hi,I am a retired veterinary surgeon, love animals and nature and live in Shropshire, in the UK. I am relatively new to Goodreads and would love to find some active discussion groups. Over the last few years I rekindled my love for children's books and have also started writing children books aimed at early middle grade readers. I have reread some of my childhood favourites. I loved Astrid Lindgren and dreamed of being Pippi or flying Fufur the dragon in the Neverending Story. Delving into more contemporary books has been a real eyeopener and I discovered how much I enjoy reading children's books. I wish I could write like Katherine Rundell or Piers Torday, authors I only discovered in the last two years. Two days ago as I researched contemporary titles for my own animal adventure book, I stumbled across a book called Varjak Paw written by SF Said and was blown away by the writing and his voice.
I hope this group will help me find some more great books to enjoy and learn from. I am still struggling to find contemporary titles for my book so would love to hear suggestions from members of this group. I am looking for early middle grade chapterbooks (6-9 year olds); animal adventure stories, written from the POV of an animal or a group of animals, but without magic or special powers, apart from the ability to talk. As I am new to Goodreads, I would like to befriend some likeminded people, readers and authors to chat about bookish things. I am not interested and will never pay for a review or agree to a swap of reviews as I consider that to be cheating, so please do not contact me if that is your intention. Looking forward to meeting some of you and your recommendations. JK Keane
Hello JK, and welcome. I am also newish to Good Reads as a middle grade author. I am most interested in seeing more good books with the protagonist having special needs; of any sort. There are quite a few out there, but need to be more in mainstream as all children want to be the hero and solve the problem or find the treasure. I'd love to talk writing and books as a reader and author. Let me know what you are working on. I have written animal stories also. Linda E.

Welcome to our group! We're glad to have you here.
Erin Hunter is the pseudonym used by a couple authors (I think either 3 or 4 write under the name) with multiple series with animal protagonists. I have read one, Into the Wild, that I loved - the MC is a young domesticated cat who joins up with a group of wild cats that live in the forest and have a structured societal setup. There is some magic, but they don't have magical abilities - and one that I didn't quite connect with but wasn't bad, The Quest Begins, which is told from the POV of three young bears who's story starts out separate and end up connecting.
I know there are others out there, but Hunter was the author that came to mind immediately.
Linda wrote: "Hello JK, and welcome. I am also newish to Good Reads as a middle grade author. I am most interested in seeing more good books with the protagonist having special needs; of any sort. There are quit..."Welcome to our group!
I have read quite a few books in the last year that have protagonists with various special needs., and I love that more authors are including protagonists with different abilities.
Four that I have read recently and really enjoyed are:
Not If I Can Help It by Carolyn Mackler (MC is Willa, who has Sensory Processing Disorder)
Forget Me Not by Ellie Terry (MC Calliope - Calli - has Tourette's Syndrome)
After Zero by Christina Collins (MC Elise is selectively mute)
Secret Supers by Andy Zach (MCs are four friends in the same special needs class at school who all get super powers)
We also have several authors among our members (not me - at least, not yet LOL) that you can also talk writing with.
Of course 'Wonder' by R. J. Palacio is very popular as is 'El Deafo' by Cece Bell. I'll certainly check out the list you shared, thanks!
