G.H. Monroe (ghmonroe) | 2 comments I too am an author of a MG novel (The Hanley Chronicles) and, full disclosure, I am largely here to introduce my book. But fear not. I detest pushy salespeople, so I will be absolutely committed to following the rules of self-promotion. If I go astray of those rules, it will be unknowingly, so just let me know, and I'll step back in line.

Just follow the rules for author members and I’ll be happy!

It would be nice to get to know you through discussing other books though. That’s how authors really sell books online! And I believe the New York Times did an article on that recently.

Shannon, I’ve moved your post to a new discussion one Books set in a COVID world as this section is the place to introduce yourself rather than start new discussions :)

I’ve also added two suggestions.

Pamela Jouan-Goldman | 3 comments Merry Christmas everyone! Thought joining a group like this was a good present! My name is Pamela Jouan-Goldman and I love to read although with 2 kids its hard to find the time especially with one headed to college. My daughter is 12 so although I have never really thought much of reading MG books its good to be in her world a little. I also happen to be on my local school board and I really enjoy the insight I get from writers of middle grade. Reading right now: Side Tracked by Diana Harmon Asher and really enjoying the way she tackles ADD throughout the story. Looking forward to future discussions!

Welcome Shannon and Pamela. I hope you enjoy it here.

SP this is the place to introduce yourself. Start a new thread e.g. in Discussions to ask your question :)

If you don't know where to find all the sections on this Group, please read the Guide for New Members (and also How to Use Goodreads Groups), in the same section as this thread. Also, just scroll up and click the 'Great Middle Grade Reads' at the top of this page, and you'll get the front page with all the contents for your exploration!

Ann Birdgenaw (annbirdgenaw) | 3 comments Hi everyone. Happy new year!
I am an author/librarian in an elementary school so of course I write MG. I got the idea for my book when I heard a strange beeping coming from my garage. It took a while for me to realize that it was beeping at the same time everyday. I found an old radio in a box of stuff from a deceased great uncle and that's when it got eerie. I tried turning off the alarm, taking out the very old batteries and playing with the antenna. Still the beeping persisted. I started to think that the electromagnetic radio waves could suck people to outer space. Black Hole Radio was born. Books 1 & 2 are out in the world and book 3 is coming out soon!

https://www.amazon.com/Black-Hole-Rad...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09...

The best part is being able to offer my own books to the students who come to the library. And they're reactions and feedback has been great!
BTW the radio is still beeping!!!

Elaine. You keep doing this.

This is the thread for posts by NEW MEMBERS, which is what it says at the top of the page. You should be welcoming them and chatting to them.

It is not where you post things about your own work, which goes in AUTHORS CORNER.

You're a great person, and have really interesting things to say about books, both yours and other people's, but please keep to the rules or I'll be forced to ban you.

Hello Ann and welcome to the group.

Please would you read the Hints for Author members, and the Guidance for author members, and the tip in the yellow box where you are typing your post, and only use the Authors or Offers Areas to talk about your own work.

Please would you edit your post above by removing the links. Ordinarily I would ask you to removed the description as well, but it's very funny and explains why you got started.

You can write (and we encourage you to write) all about your books, including covers and links (especially to the Goodreads pages for them) in the AUTHORS CORNER section.

And that said, welcome and I hope you enjoy yourself here after that bit of a mishap :)

Welcome Gouri! Lovely to have another member in the teen group. I think we have a number of younger members here (Goodreads is supposed to be minimum age 13, I think, so we just take it for granted you are) so feel free to comment on their posts - probably in the Book of the Month and Discussions sections. Have a good look round (and probably ignore threads where the last post is from 2018 or so!)

E.G. Moore (emilygmoorewriter) | 11 comments Hey there everyone, I’m Emily. I’ve been a voracious reader and writer since I was very young and started using Goodreads early to keep track of books that I read. I’m a married mom of 3 with a surprise baby boy in 2020. I’m a #kidlit and #YoungAdult author, and especially love reading middle grade (Research, am I right?) currently i have two standalone novels published. I volunteer at a local nonprofit for homeless families and work at a lake resort check-in desk during the North Idaho summer. I love camping, hiking, cooking, and painting.

Thanks for this group. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hello Tracy and Emily, and welcome to the group!

There's plenty around (as you've already seen) including lots of different ideas about what's suitable for middle grade readers. This also differs from country to country, by the way.

Looking forward to your input!

Lillian Keith (imwritehere20) | 13 comments Hi there, feel free to call me Lily. I'm an MG writer who is just starting to publish her own works. I love children's and middle-grade books; they were a huge part of my life growing up (and I've never outgrown it!) My parents always wanted us to be well read, so growing up, they'd read aloud to me and my siblings.

I'd say some of my favorite middle-grade books have been the Newberrys and their Honor awards (Walk Two Moons, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, etc. to name a couple).

I look forward to meeting everybody; and thank you for letting me join! :)

P.s I promise no spam; please feel free to tell me if I accidentally cross a line (as I'm sorta new to this whole thing. Thanks.) :)

J.D. | 2 comments Hello! I just found this group. Now that I’ve retired I’m working on some bucket list items and spending more time reading and finding more good reads is high on the list. I was an elementary ed teacher in a number of positions (Special Education, Reading Recovery, Classroom, Gifted and Talented and ESL). And the best part of my day was read aloud. I am happy to join this group. Oh, I am also on the cusp of publishing my first middle grade novel.

Hi! I'm new here too. Welcome :)

My dad used to teach elementary too (though he taught more middle school later on), and reading aloud was something my parents did with us kids. It really is the best part of any day!

Congratulations on your middle grade novel! Can I ask what the premise is?

Lillian wrote: "Congratulations on your middle grade novel! Can I ask what the premise is?"

Lillian, author-members are not allowed to talk about their books in this thread, and in fact only in Authors Corner, or the Read 4 Review section, or the Giveaways and Offers section. So please don't ask them!

Also, EVERYONE please don't carry on discussions in this thread, as it's INTRODUCTIONS for/to NEW MEMBERS!

You can start new threads in other (appropriate) sections, like General Discussions, or Favourite Reads. If It's not right for the section, I can move the whole thread to a more appropriate place. But I can't move individual comments.

THANK YOU ALL

I am an artist/author, mother of two adult "children" who I read to every night when they were young. As they outgrew children's and middle grade books and I didn't, I knew it was time to write a book myself (one that had been brewing for decades within our family). I'm really looking forward to making connections with enthusiasts for all books middle grade and other authors!

Bill Bevan | 35 comments Hi, I’ve recently joined Goodreads and found this group in the hope I can find more reading recommendations and connect with other readers, authors, librarians and others interest in middle grade fiction. I am a reader of lots of middle grade, both for myself and to my daughter, who is still into middle grade fiction as well as reading some YA. I’m an archaeologist and heritage interpreter who has written a number of non-fiction archaeology and history books. After three years of writing around work, family and everything else, and of not finding an agent, I have just self-published my first middle grade novel and I’m hoping to find others in a similar position or who read self-published books to feel less isolated. I’m looking forward to many conversations.

Welcome to the group, Bill. You'll find many others in a similar situation, but fortunately also many who don't write books!

Our founder SW wrote a series of MG time-travel books to Egypt, too... about ten years ago now - he's moved on a lot since then :)

Hello Chesney and welcome. I'm sure there are loads of books that you'll like. Check out all the books in our library, most of which have been Books of the Month, in case you want to see what we've said about them before you read them.

We're currently voting on what to read for May... some sort of crime or mystery book :) The poll is at the bottom of the front page for the group, as well as linked to the thread for 'what shall we read in May'. :)
