I totally agree! Although I loved Harry Potter, Percy Jackson is a series I can read over and over and love it every time. Welcome to the group. :)

Welcome, Gary, Rue, and anyone else I've missed.
Looks like if we don't have a thread on Percy Jackson, we ought to!

Hi! I'm glad to find a middle grade group here! I write middle grade. I have one book out now (The Worlds Next Door, portal fantasy sort of like A Wrinkle in Time/The Chronicles of Narnia - two of my faves) and one to release in July (Vincent in Wonderland, in which Vincent van Gogh joins Alice in Wonderland. This is a very standalone prequel to the other, set far in advance of that one). I'm glad to be here and promise I won't spam everyone. :-)
Hello all, I’m currently a working towards my Elementary Education degree. While working as a full time substitute teacher. So much of what I read right now is children’s books and those that would appeal to upper Elementary which is the ages I want to work with when I finish my degree. Meaning 3-5th grades.
How exciting! I was a teacher for 25 years (although at a high school). Middle grade is still my favorite to read. You'll find lots of suggestions all over Goodreads. Good luck!William wrote: "Hello all,

Hello! I am so happy to find this group. I teach fifth grade and constantly looking for books to excite my students. We completed the 40 book challenge this year (I reduced it to 30 book because it was my first year for trying it) and the students read a total of 608 books! I also want to become involved in my schools battle of the books group and I am currently reading The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg as it is on the reading list. I can't wait to meet members and see what others are reading!
Your class did great! And thank you for emphasizing reading and taking the time to find books that your kids will enjoy and appreciate.I am currently reading Aru Shah and the End of Time, which I am not enjoying as much as I thought I would (mainly because I haven't made a positive connection with the main character yet), but it's still interesting (I love all mythology).

Aru Shah is one of the books I have to read this summer. My students gave me two copies. I had a student this year who adored mythology. He also love Aru Shah, not it makes sense!

Hey, everyone!I read a LOT of middle grade (a professional necessity and also for pleasure). :)
My wife and I have owned a brick and mortar bookstore for the last 28 years (shuttering this Halloween, sadly), so I guess I'm going to need new ways to keep my finger on the pulse of what's new and good out there in Middle Grade book reading land. So, here I am.

(I'm also a novelist. Newest one here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...)
Hi Richard!Welcome to the group! I also love middle grade...it's mostly what I read, too! :)

Welcome Richard!!If I had lots of time (and energy) and didn’t necessarily need the income, I’d LOVE to own/run a brick and mortar bookstore!
Kudos for keeping your so long.
I’m a middle grade/YA writer (unfortunately, not my main job...yet 😊)
Welcome!
Just a note to Steve Schatz: you are very welcome in the group but please use this thread to introduce yourself.
Please also read and digest the advice for authors, which are also summarised in the yellow box that pops up when you post.

Hi everyone! So happy I found this group, and hoping to get more value from my Goodreads account than I have for a few quiet years. I read a lot of MG, as that's the ages my kids are currently—and yes, because let's be honest, it's probably the most enjoyable category out there. :)
Always looking for new authors & titles for my kids, and I'm in the process of writing my own MG fantasy as well. Looking forward to discovering new titles and learning.
Some of my (our) favs are Jonathan Stroud, Roald Dahl, Rebecca Stead, The Unwanteds, and of course Percy Jackson and Harry Potter.
Best,
AJ

Hi everyone,On top of loving MG books I am also currently in school to become a youth services librarian. I figured joining this group would be a great way to stay on top of popular MG books so I can help my patrons better.
I was also looking for more people to get into discussions with, since none of my friends read MG books. I look forward to reading and talking with you all

Hi AJ!
Welcome to the group! I definitely agree with MG being the most enjoyable genre. We read and discuss a different book each month. It's a great way to discover new books.
Good luck with your fantasy book! :)

Sorry Steve. Welcome to the group but please read the guidance for author members. This a readers group not a promotional one!
And we can’t move posts. You are welcome to start a thread in the Authors Corner if you wish.

Hello EveryoneI'm John living in New York State. I'm a retired educator and presently just release my latest book set to songs as an ebook. A new experiment for me, features 19 original songs by various artist that tell the story. Looking forward to sharing with you all.
Hi, I go by Critter, a nickname I got in my childhood. I'm currently in school for anthropology. I was really excited to find a MG group and I am looking forward to discussing books here.
Welcome to all the new people since I last checked in (an embarassingly long time ago). Hope you join our monthly reads and discussions, and I know you'll find a bunch of great new reads here!
Hello again, everyone, especially those who've joined since I was last here.
I've been off writing and publishing for the past six months, or around that number, so thank you for your tolerance. Our newer mods have been doing a terrific job in my absence (and also publishing books, which makes me feel a bit bad).
It's lovely to see the steady stream of new members and I look forward to chatting with you as we go on into 2020.

Hi Steve and welcome.
This is much too big a topic for the Intro thread.
I’ve copied your question to a new thread here.

PLEASE WOULD MEMBERS REPLY THERE NOT HERE!!

Hello. I am Julie, a Librarian in Northern Ontario, Canada. I enjoy reading and listening to Middle Grade Action Fantasy. This year I am looking forward to reading a wider variety of Middle Grade novels.
Welcome Julie! It'll be interesting to find out what you like most in that category... feel free to make a list in the General Discussion or the Library thread.
Hi, Julie! I’m contemplating what it means to be a librarian in Northern Ontario... seems like books might be especially important up there!
Hi! I'm Jenni. I'm a special education teacher for an online charter school in Oregon and a homeschool mom to two teen boys. I love reading and dabble in writing my own middle grade. I look forward to reading and discussing books with you all!
Hi Jenni, and welcome. Sounds like you've got your hands full with your teaching and homeschooling! You're sure to find some good books here, and don't be shy about recommending some, either.
Hi I’m Em! Avid reader in my spare time when I’m not reading to my daughter. I look forward to meeting everyone and finding new books to enjoy with my daughter
Welcome, Em! We love readers! How old is your daughter, and what do you most enjoy reading to her? Ad what does she enjoy?
Hi everyone, I’m a Sydney-based author presently writing a series for upper middle grade/younger teens. I look forward to being part of this group and discovering some new middle grade stories. Classics are my favourite but I love well-written contemporaries too.
Hi. This is Peachy Keen Reads. I can't wait to get to now you guys! I think for this next BOTM we should a book by Carl Hiaasen.
Hi Em, Elizabeth and Peachy extremely Keen!
Lovely to meet you all and look forward to reading about what you like.
Er, Peachy, I think we got the message about Hiaasen in your other posts :). Try not to say the same thing everywhere! You’ll soon get the hang of it. Why not start a post about your favourite one in the ‘ specific book or series’ section, so we can have a good discussion about his books.

Hi, I'm Katy, and I'm a Library Assistant in the children's room at my local suburban library. While I don't purchase books directly, I'm trying to expand my knowledge of MG books to advise patrons as well as point the librarians in charge of book orders at books they might have missed.

Welcome Katy!
That’s great, Katy. Welcome!
I know many schools in the UK need kids to have a ‘school’ iPad. Do you loan ebooks as well as paper copies for MG level in your library?

Hi, I am Andrea... I work in a bookstore and in particular with schools on the book needs for the classroom. My main reason for joining this group is because my son is on remote learning for at least the next 2 weeks (most likely longer), so I wanted to find resources for recommendations, online book groups, etc. Anything to keep him reading and engaged while social distancing is the norm.

Hi Andrea and welcome to the group. I’m sure many of us are wondering how to cope with this self-isolating thing, and I don’t envy any of you with kids who are off school as a result.
Perhaps we should have a separate thread for advice swapping. I’ll start it, but please, please join in!

My introduction post is closed, but I see the section is growing nicely. Join in on a suitable topic or start your own :)

Hello!I'm Marion and I just found you guys! I'm so looking forward to talk to fellow MG lovers and find lots of recommendations.
Hi Marion, and welcome. I hope everything is going okay in your location. Plenty of reading tips here :)
HI Everyone! I'm an academic librarian at a mid-sized university in Tennessee. I currently work with our students and faculty in the Education Department. In my former life I was a special education teacher who spent the majority of my time teaching 4th and 5th grade students. I love reading Middle Grade books and hope to get so many great ideas of books we can add to our library collection!
Welcome, Heidi! We have quite a few librarians around here, though I'm not sure any others at the university level :) And some of us just pretend when we're writing :D
