I joined because I have boys and am always looking for book recommendations to encourage their reading. Sometimes I read with them.
Welcome, Cleo! You've come to the right place--we have a lot of threads that may offer ideas already, and feel free to start one asking for recommendations if you have specific needs for the boys.
Welcome, Cleo! Always good to meet another MG author!
Hello,I love Middle Grade and Young Adult books. I am self-published and I currently have a book in each area.
I look forward to getting to know you all,
Caroline

Hi Caroline! You'll find lots of useful information in our Guides to using Groups and to Author-members :) Enjoy yourself here. :)

Hello all,Good to be here. I am an author and write multi genre books for both adults and children. So far I have two books - one novella and a short read for the middle grade. I also run a kids book reading club and most of my inspiration for stories for the middle grade are inspired from the sessions there.
Looking forward to interact with you all. Thanks.

I am enjoying. Thanks
Hello everyone, I am Pattie and I teach 8th grade ELA and Social Studies gifted students. I'm m looking forward to talking about great books for my students.
Hi, Pattie! Your 8th graders are getting to the very top edge of the MG books we talk about, but many are of course still happier to be reading Erin Hunter than Stephanie Myers.
Hi Pattie and welcome. It's always good to get discussions and recommendations from the students themselves (bearing in mind the age level).
You'll find some of the books mentioned in the Authors Corner and Read 4 Review may be better suited to the upper level of MG, too.

Hi! I'm Doniell and I teach piano. I have a toddler, and 8 nieces and nephews that LOVE reading! I keep a huge supply of books on hand in my studio, and in my kid's room for anyone and everyone that comes to our home. I'm also a writer myself, and love telling stories. I've written quite a bit of poetry and a few picture books (without pictures at the moment). I always look forward to the next book. Right now, our house is loving the Geronimo Stilton series, and Michael Dahl's Little Dino books.
Hi Doniell and welcome. 8 nieces and nephews! I only have three nieces and one nephew, and they aren't hard to entertain these days!
Are you doing your own illustrations? Talk more about that in Author's Corner, I'm sure people would be interested, but it does fall under our 'author' rules, so check those out.
I think I must get reading Geronimo Stilton, he seems to be the big cheese around at present.

Welcome, Doniell!
Geronimo Stilton (and the variants on that series) is pretty huge at our library. I haven't actually read any, though from the looks of them I could zip through 2 or 3 in an hour. I should do that. The titles are enticing, as many are puns or plays on famous books, movies, etc.

Welcome Joe! You don't need to be a chattering kind to get some good stuff here, but we do hope you'll also share some of your good reads and your opinions on topics we're discussing. Join the monthly group read and add your point of view!
Hi, Joe, and welcome. Doodling is good :) Join in or lurk, as you wish, but it's more fun when we know you're there!
Any questions, just ask.

Hi, Stacia! Welcome to the group, and we look forward to hearing what the kids are reading at your school.
Hi Stacia. Yes, find or start a suitable thread for what your kids are reading e.g. in the 'General Discussion' or even 'Currently Reading' sections.
Have a great time here.

Hi. My name is Bonni Goldberg. I've not been a member of discussion groups like these online until this year. I'm afraid my manners are a bit lacking as I just dove right in on some threads without properly introducing myself. I wouldn't do that in person, so apologies. I live in Portland, OR. I used to teach middle school both in the classroom and as a writer-in-the-schools. Due to circumstances in my life, I can't commit to any book or writing groups that meet in person. I look forward to having this place to talk about books.
Hi Bonni! No worries about not introducing yourself first--etiquette is pretty casual around these parts. We look forward to having your input in our book discussions--and feel free to start conversations on any book that interests you!
Hi Bonni! I used to sidle into groups hoping nobody would realise I was there and just say my piece. Then I discovered introducing myself helped :D
Hello Everyone! My name is Ashlee, I’m new to Goodreads and this sounded like the perfect group to join first on my Goodreads journey! I’m an Anthropologist and teach at the college level. I’m also a mom of two and will be starting a Masters in Eduction in the fall focusing on elementary and middle grades science.
Middle-grades fiction has always been my go-to genre, although I also enjoy Popular Science.
I’m excited to be part of the group and join in on some great discussions, thanks for having me!
Hello, Ashlee and welcome. :)
You'll find my guide to navigating a Goodreads Group in a separate thread listed at the top of the front page or the Discussion page. I hope it helps. There may be some navigation differences between browser-based use and app-based, but the ideas are the same.
I hope you enjoy it here - nice to have another scientist around.

Hi Everyone, My name is Becky Avella and I've been a member of this group for almost three years now. I've so enjoyed reading all of the posts and decided it was finally time to get over my shyness and introduce myself. I'm a former sixth grade teacher so I have a great love for this genre's target age group. I enjoy Newbery-type novels with strong voice like Walk Two Moons or Out of the Dust, but I equally love fun fantasy like Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl. My youngest son is almost ten and we are having so much fun reading together or listening to audiobooks. Some of our recent favorites have been titles I've chose in order to finish this group's A to Z challenge. I've attempted it in the past but I'm determined to actually make it all the way to Z this year. Thank you for giving me permission to be a kid again. :)
Welcome, Ashlee! It sounds like you are busy, and about to get busier--and MG books are always great when you don't have much time, since they go pretty fast :)
Welcome to you, too, Becky--glad you came out of hiding to introduce yourself.

:) Yes!
I can blame my slowness on being busy in Narnia.
(Although if the cupboard was under the stairs...)

My name is Duane Ostler and I am an attorney, but I try not to be a corrupt one. I have enjoyed middle grade/juvenile books for many years. In law school whenever the law got too heavy, I'd go to the children's book section of the library and read. It helped bring back some perspective. I don't do as much reading now since there never seems to be enough time. But I did recently finish Moon Over Manifest, as well as Inside Out and Back Again. Then I re-read one of my favorites, Ella Enchanted. I am always open to suggestions of good ones to read next.
Hi Duane, nice to meet you. I’m sure you’re a good attorney! I’ve not read any of those you mention. I suppose that means more to add to my TBR!

Oh, yes, you do! I've read all of those, and they are good.
Welcome, Duane! If you liked Moon Over Manifest, I bet you'd like Three Times Lucky and the sequels.

And if anyone liked Three Times Lucky some good recommendations would be Pie and Precious Bones

I also read everything else everyone said.
Hello, I'm Rosie from Hampshire UK. I am in the process of completing my second MG fantasy. What an amazing journey!
Hi! I'm Rajani. I'm a doctor, reader, and author of an forthcoming MG novel! I live in the Boston area. I love all kinds of books, but MG is my sweet spot. My favorite books as a child include THE WESTING GAME, Ellen Raskin's other books, and anything by Madeleine L'Engle, in particular THE ARM OF THE STARFISH. I recently finished (and loved!) THE WAR I FINALLY WON, and next up is THE NIGHT DIARY which I can't wait to dig into...but I must get some writing done first. I'm excited to be here!
Hello Rosie and Rajani, lovely to meet you here. Looking forward to chatting some more to you in the discussions areas!
Hi Rosie, Rajani! Welcome to GMGR, and we look forward to having you join our discussions. Rajani, I also recently read The War I Finally Won, and liked it as well as the first book. And I read The Night Diary a couple of months ago!
