NEW MEMBERS: Hi everyone, I've joined the GMGR group. I'm ......
Hello friends! I'm from Russia. Together with my wife - Maria Evan - we are creating children's books and books for middle grade. She is an artist and illustrating them. It seems to me that this is a very useful forum and useful group. Thanks to those who wrote here!
Hi Evan! Welcome. Are you writing in Russian or English? (And if you mix them up, is it Ringlish?).

Welcome, Evan! I love seeing other husband/wife teams. Welcome to the group. I'll sure you'll find lots of useful information!
Hi Middle Grade book lovers. I've been in the group--not active, I'm afraid--for a while. It's not for lack of interest that's for sure. I love to find good MG books and to talk about them as well as write them. I have three out at the moment and am trying to finish the last book in my trilogy. I put a lot of networking on hold so I could do the writing, and there you have my excuse for being inactive. Hope to be much more engaged from here on out.
Hello C. Nice of you to come out of the cupboard! Look forward to chatting with you about books in general.
Good evening, C. I can sympathize about the writing pushing out the networking. I've been a bit that way this month myself.
Hi everyone. I´m James. I live in Madrid, Spain, and teach a lot of middle grade age children here. Also have two young children of my own. I write, too, and have a YA book coming out next year (I´ve got a page here on GR if you want to know more). Nice to meet you all!
Hello, James, and welcome to the group. Must do cultural Spain some time. I want to see Salamanca and Granada among others. So much to see, so little time and money to see it!

Hey, at least you don't have a giant continent and an ocean between you and Spain!

Rebecca wrote: "Good evening, C. I can sympathize about the writing pushing out the networking. I've been a bit that way this month myself."And then, of course, the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday came and threw me off even more. I'm still scratching my head about how it got to be Nov. 2016 already.

And now it's almost December! I have less than 1000 words to go to hit the arbitrary 50K NaNoWriMo target, but more like 30K to finish my current MS. I had thought I might get there before Xmas, but I think I'll do well to hit it by the end of December.

And we're glad to have you :) Just make sure your comments are relevant to the thread you're posting in. It's probably a good idea to check out the Guidance for New Members thread, too.

Hello everyone, I'm Fred, a writer/director of children's television and family films. I just wrote my first novel, an MG fantasy called THE UGLY TEAPOT, and I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Rebecca wrote: "Welcome, Fred."Thanks, Rebecca. I'm in the process of re-reading all of the HARRY POTTER books, and I think I'm enjoying them even more the second time around. Rowling has a spectacular imagination. I have always heard the series started as an MG series, then became a YA series as the characters in the series aged. However, the readership of the series seems to run the gamut from ages eight to eighty. That crossover appeal seems unusual, and I'm wondering if that's because it's so hard to do, or if publishers try to pigeonhole writers? Or perhaps it's both?
Hi Fred and welcome. Sorry - got waylaid by some sort of seasonal celebration! Have a great time here.
Yes, I think MG books have a huge crossover, we discuss that somewhere - have a browse round the forum to see a suitable title (brain not working today). I'm fairly sure we also have a discussion going on the Harry Potter books. I haven't re-read them for some time (you didn't re-read them after reading them the first time?), but I'm re-watching the films in order on UK tv this Christmas; some things are better, some clunkier IMHO.
Anyway, better not start a whole new discussion in this thread - let's do that in the proper places! I'll see if I can link them here for you.

This one - my greatest memories of the Harry Potter series - is suitable for further Potter discussions :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Hi, I'm Natalie and I'm a Middle School Teacher in Missouri. I'm always looking for good suggestions for my students. Hoping this group help me to supply good suggestions for the students.
Hi Natalie! I'm sure you'll find some good books for your students here, though we often focus on books aimed just a little younger than Jr. High (usually about 4th-6th grade). Lots of room for interpretation and of course we like to discuss that, too!
Natalie wrote: "Hi, I'm Natalie and I'm a Middle School Teacher in Missouri. I'm always looking for good suggestions for my students. Check out the series here and message me and I'll see that you get a free sample. These books are not in ebook format only paperbacks and hardbacks. http://www.too-clever.com
Reading is fundamental!
Happy New Year everyone. To those who are new, this is the only group I consistently follow, because there are good people here with positive suggestions. Hope you love it too

You be careful, Dixie, or you'll be wrangled into the Mod team, since that's how we started out!

Wish I could just hit a like button because every comment I come up with to that seems to be asking for trouble.
Hi, I'm Ali Seegar and I'm pretty new to Goodreads, and even newer to Great Middle Grade Reads having joined approximately five minutes ago! It's great to connect with people who love middle grade stories. One of my fondest childhood memories is of the books I grew up with, and I believe many helped shape who I am today.
I have just published my first children's book. Having dabbled with writing in various genres over the years, when this story started to germinate in my mind I realised it was bursting to be put on paper and it was a thrilling journey to see the characters find their way onto the page.
I hope to be setting up a giveaway for my book in the next couple of days but for now, it's great to say hello and I look forward to getting to know you!
P.S I have deliberately not given the title of my book as I want to respect this group!

Thanks Ju - nice to meet you!
Hello all! Sophie here, I'm 18, from England and I love reading. I enjoy a variety of books; poetry, classics, non-fiction, historical fiction, fantasy. And, of course, I love middle-grade, that's why I'm here! Some of my favourite middle grade series are My Sister the Vampire by Sienna Mercer, Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, Kat, Incorrigible by Stephanie Burgis and Malory Towers by Enid Blyton. I'm looking forward to finding more recommendations in this group. Nice to meet you all!
Thanks for the welcome Rebecca and for the tip! I'm just learning to navigate my way around the site. Hi Sophie, I'm also new here and also from the UK but I live in Luxembourg. So good to hear you love reading, it's one of the greatest pleasures in life!
Hello Ali and Sophie - I'm from England too :)
Good luck with the book, Ali - we have an Authors section where you can talk about it openly! I know that problem of it suddenly bursting out of you.
Sophie - I'd be interested to know whether you felt the first in the Artemis Fowl was as good as the rest of the series. It wasn't too popular when we had it as Book of the Moth, yet it definitely does have a huge following.

Hi Jemima, hi Dan - thanks for the welcome! There's so much to do on Goodreads but I'm really pleased that I've found this group and I'm looking forward to finding my way around it!
Welcome, Fred, and good luck with The Ugly Teapot.Hi Natalie. You won't be short of suggestions. I've made some great discoveries through this group.
Jemima wrote: "Sophie - I'd be interested to know whether you felt the first in the Artemis Fowl was as good as the rest ...."I love them all. The Lost Colony (#5) is my least favourite but I still really like that book. I'm not sure which is my favourite but the first one is definitely up there so if someone didn't like the first one I wouldn't push them to continue because they probably won't like the rest.
