Great Middle Grade Reads discussion
      GROUP BUSINESS

NEW MEMBERS: Hi everyone, I've joined the GMGR group. I'm ......

Bonjour!I'm new to Goodreads and slowly finding my way around. I have a son who is seven and slowly approaching middle grade status. Always keen to have some recommendations for his age group. Also very keen to rake over the books I used to love as a child. If I were to pick a few that have stayed with me for various reasons, I'd go for:
Fattypuffs and Thinifers
The Witches
Boy
Matilda
The BFG
Where the red fern grows (to date the only book that made me cry)
And... Asterix. A comic, I know, but I absolutely adored them.
I look forward to chatting with like-minded readers.
Chet

Welcome! What about The Witch of Blackbird Pond and Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher?

Welcome, Chet. Of your list I've only read the BFG and the Asterix books, but I had a deprived childhood.
Enjoy!

  Enjoy!
Hey everyone! My name is Sarah Schauerte Reida, and I'm a MG writer (my debut, Monsterville: A Lissa Black Production comes out in Sept), so I'm naturally always trying to read as many good MG books as I can find (particularly magical realism, humor, contemporary). Seems like this group would have the up and up! I'm based out of Atlanta and have too many pets. :)

Welcome aboard, Sarah.

  Welcome aboard, Sarah.
You can have too many pets. I once had twelve parrots living in the living room of a two bedroom duplex.

I accept that!

Oh, I have a dog and four cats. AND a hobo kitty that gets rotisserie chicken on a fairly regularly basis. (My publisher actually let me put this in my author bio: "She and her husband Scott live in the Atlanta area with their dog and four cats. By the time this biography reaches print, they will probably have acquired another animal." Niiiiice.

Hi!I'm Paula. I've been a member of the group for some months, but I don't think I've introduced myself. I'm a mother of three, 2 sons 15yo and 13yo and 1 daughter 10yo. I'm always on the lookout for new books for them and me to read.
Hello, my name is Sandy. I have been a member for a while but have not posted before. I am the mother of 8: sons 23, 23, 17, 15, 12 and daughters 21, 19, 12. I also have a wonderful daughter-in-law and a gorgeous 10 month old grandson. I have just finished my elementary education degree and will be teaching 5th and 6th graders in the fall. I am always looking for new books to read and as I heavily favor fantasy books I need suggestions/encouragement to expand my reading to other genres.

Hello, Paula and Sandy, welcome, and I'm glad you decided to come out of the shadows and announce yourselves! Watch out for our Books of the Month - they each have comments threads as well, so they may give you new ideas - the nominations lists are always interesting, too. You're in time to vote for our June book - check out the section headed Book of the Month!

Welcome Paula and Sandy. Wow, Sandy, that's a lot of kids! I found two to be a handful!
As Jemima says, there are some good discussions/lists around here, so feel free to root around, and to start your own threads, too.

Hey. I'm a middle schooler who loves to read. I wanted to see if there were any groups that had book that were good for middle schoolers and found this group. I can't wait to see what great books there are!

Hi Ellie and welcome! Always good to get new readers - check out the Book of the Month thread and join in the discussions if you like.

Sure, why not? :D. I am a current middle school student so I though it would be fun to join this chat. I also have a YouTube channel thanks focused in books! Payouts can find me at: Emily_TheReader. Thanks for welcoming me! :D

I suggest you do the BOTM (Book of the Month) and the reading challenge. I, myself, joined yesterday and have already started on those. If you have any questions, I can help if I know it enough!
Hi everyone! I'm Laura, a tween services librarian in the Chicago suburbs. I love sitting down with a stack of review journals and adding books to my "To Read" shelf, while ordering for our collection at the same time. I hope to connect with the good folks here in this Group! My favorite middle grade reads (so far): Harry Potter, The Mo and Dale Mysteries (Three Times Lucky, etc), Echo, The Artemis Fowl series, and The Girl Who Drank the Moon. The list is ever-expanding, however...
Welcome, Laura! I think librarians have one of the best jobs! Hope you find lots of ideas to add to your to-be-read list and participate in the discussions.

Hello everybody! I'm Justin and I'm a kid MG blogger here. Honestly, I'm just looking for some good material to review, meet some great bloggers and book-lovers, and ultimately get the word about my blog out there. Looking forward to enjoying this wonderful group!

I ditto Dixie. GMGR is my favorite group on Goodreads. It's great to have new middle grade members. Welcome!

Hi Justin, great to have you on board. If you're ever short of material to review - check our Offers and Authors sections!

Hi! I'm Jennifer Voigt Kaplan and this is the first Goodreads Group I've joined. I'm an aspiring writer and love children's books, especially middle grade. I'm excited to be part of a community that shares my literary interests. Cheers!

Welcome, Jennifer! You'll find lots of great book suggestions here. More than you can ever read, if you're like me :o

Hi All,So happy to find this group. I'm a teacher in NYC and work with TCRWP as well. I also blog at https://smallbooksbigstories.wordpres.... I'm here to chat books and find great new reads as well!

      Welcome, Jennifer and Inventory!
Just to warn you, Inventory, you ticked my nerves as you are a very anonymous person at present, but I'm sure as you get to grips with Goodreads you'll become as real as the rest of us!
You both might like a post I did the other day to help new Group users to find their way around. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Thank you, Jemima. The classics are lovely. As I'm from Germany, I have read most of them already being an adult. But I now love Dr. Seuss and Charlotte's Web with fervor :) And there is so much still to discover - delightful.
