Hi Niki and welcome. I started reading MG books about five years ago and have so many to catch up with! Trouble is I have so many other books to read too.
Have a look at our Book of the Month thread if you want any more ideas for ones to read :)

I am also new. amateur aspiring MG author (I am not paid) who hopes to one day publish something and earn a living. I have one completed MG fantasy novel and am working on #2 now. I also read MG, with a specialty in indie authors or 'forgotten' traditionally-published writers (discovering books which were published and not 'discovered'). Feel free to friend me on Goodreads, offer me MG book recommendations, and yes, I am happy to share my work with whomever asks!
Hi, I love middle grade reads for my classes and myself and enjoyed them most of all when my children were that age. There is something magical about stories at that age and emotional intensity that fascinates me still
WelcomeI really like Miss Snark's First Victim blog for aspiring authors. She has a number of free contests which I've found very helpful.

Give it a try!

Hi, I'm a mom to a 9 year old daughter and 6 year old son. Luckily they have inherited my love of reading and we are going through a ton of middle grade books. I'm impressed with the selection of books available for kids today but it can be overwhelming to choose what to read next when I'm browsing through thousands of titles on Amazon. Looking forward to reading with all of you.
Hi Lori! Maybe that overwhelming Amazon smorgasborg is why I like the library--still a lot to pick from, but it's a bit more limited!
I'm not technically new to the group but I haven't been as much of a participate as I hoped. School, work, and life just make it difficult to get on laptop for any reason besides to write a paper, haha.Anyway, my name is Albana but I prefer Bana. I'm an Albanian Senior in college from Brooklyn. I'm currently finishing my BA in English Lit while juggling many internships in order to figure out what career plan I want to pursue but I know it had to be something in middle grade literature; something that's always been a great love and passion of mine.
Nice to meet everyone! :))
That's great, Diane - it's always good to have librarians on the spot! Especially if you can add any insights into potential Books of the Month and whether they are available in your library!

Hi Diane, you sound like someone who has some great insights and recommendations to share. Welcome aboard.

Welcome Bana, Lori, Diane and Thomas! Sounds like you will all have a lot to add to our discussions.
Hi:Just a quick note to introduce myself. Love MG reads--coincidentally my initials are M.G. :) Will be looking around for some good read recommendations in this group for this upcoming winter since I live in snowy Minnesota. I will be spending more time inside curled up with good books.
Happy Reading!

I'm fairly new to goodreads and to this group, but I've never really distinguished between middle grade, YA, and adult fiction in my own reading and writing. A well told tale is a well told tale. I've written a handful of published books, including a middle grade reader novel, but authoring books was always a sideline for me as I was primarily working as a lyricist over the last 20 years. Now I'm turning my attention and focus more seriously to the craft of fiction. I look forward to following and participating in the discussions here. Thanks!
Hello Douglas and welcome. I know what you mean, I think, about not making a distinction in reading. I think there's a lot to think about when writing for the different groups, though. I'm sure you'll enjoy our lively debate about What is Middle Grade!

Welcome, M.G. I spent many happy winters in Minnesota reading, too. The snow can be a great reason to stay inside. I always like it when I come across good books with a Minnesota/Wisconsin setting.
Hello everybody. My name is Nils. I'm now a father of young children, and have been going back through all the books of great middle grade literature, remembering how much I enjoyed them when I was that age. My oldest daughter is five and just learning to read on her own, and I'm looking forward to sharing books with her in the coming years. Currently, I'm stationed in Afghanistan for a year at the U.S. embassy, and am separated from my family until next June.I'm excited to meet new friends who love to read good books for children, and I'm always happy to learn about new books to read myself and share with my kids.
Nils,Welcome to the group and thank you for your service. I look forward hearing your thoughts in our discussions.
Stephanie
Welcome Nils. What a lovely way to rediscover the books of your youth, reading them with your children.

Great to have you in the group, Nils. I hope you find plenty more gems for your kids to enjoy.

Hello,I'm Rebecca and I am an 8th grade ELA teacher. My district has a fairly rigid line on books to be read during the school year, but there is a little time for other pursuits. I strive to find books my 8th graders will find interesting as well as books that challenge some of their notions about the world. I try to instill in them that ELA is not a subject in school, it is a way to process how everything is connected.
Hello, nice to hear from another teacher, and we have another Rebecca too. It's a good group. Welcome.
Hello everyone! :) My name is Kathleen Burkinshaw and am enjoying being part of this MG group. My debut upper MG historical fiction, THE LAST CHERRY BLOSSOM, will launch August 2016.
Rebecca,If you will send me your mailing address, I will gladly donate a copy of my new MG novel, Shaky Man, to your library. Maybe you will find time to read it and give it a review. You can learn more about it at the link above and on my website, http://marksparker.com/. This offer is extended to other teachers and librarians out there who might be interested. You can send your address to marksparkerwriter@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Mark
Welcome, Rebecca and Kathleen! I think that's Rebecca number three, since I commented as the second Rebecca joined in the early autumn (fall). I hope you both enjoy being here and chatting about MG books.
At the bottom of the front page there is a poll to select our Book Of The Month. Do vote before the end of the month, and join in to read and discuss the winner if you have time.

Hi! I'm Cassie, and I'm a children's librarian at a wonderful public library in Northwest Ohio. I'm 27 years old, and I like to split my time between working at my library and teaching theatre classes about Shakespeare and fairy tales and script writing for young performers. I'm also a writer, though as of yet unpublished, and I got married six months ago! I love to read middle grade books and YA books and fantasy/fairy tale retellings, and my favorite part about my job is definitely the two book discussion groups I run, one for late elementary age students and one for middle schoolers!
Hi Cassie! You sound very busy and you'll fit in here very well. Love to hear what your students think - and do add your expertise to our Book of the Month nominations and discussions.
Hi, I'm new to this group. I'm an author and book blogger and have previously self-published a 2 book fantasy series, which I originally thought was more YA than MG. They're not for sale at the moment as I am now rewriting the series as a MG trilogy and would love to get some feedback from the experts!
If anyone is interested in beta reading book 1, (which is about 40k words) please get in touch.
And if you're a writer of fantasy or science fiction, I'd love to feature you on my One Thousand Worlds in One Thousand Words. site.

Hi Richie and welcome. You might like to check out our advice to authors post, and also talk about your projects on the Authors' Corner ;)
Do you read MG, work with kids, anything like that?

Happy New Year to all!

hi Jemima and thanks for the welcome. I've been reading everything from picture books up to Roald Dahl to my 3 kids for the last 16 years. The youngest is now 9 years old and reading for himself. They actually persuaded me to start writing seriously, turning bedtime stories into my trilogy. The characters are also based on them.
I'll try to participate in the group as much as possible and now have 5 years experience as a writer, blogger, beta reader and proofreader and although I still have an awful lot to learn, I am keen to help other writers if I can.

Welcome Rebecca, Kathleen, Cassie and Richie! I think by Jemima's calculations, I get to be Rebecca the First. When are my throne and crown arriving? :)
Rebecca, you'll find lots of good suggestions around here, though much of what we discuss is aimed a little lower than 8th grade (I find 7th and 8th graders at an awkward age for how our library is organized--they mostly really belong in the kids' room, but would rather be seen in the YA section :) )

Hi Richie - you're so lucky! I haven't any kids to read to (although my guinea pigs are avid listeners). I get most of my recommendations from here.
Rebecca... you know what a 'throne' is in British euphemisms, don't you?
