Welcome, Rhonda! I'm not a real librarian, but I play one at work (I'm a part-time library aide, and have been for so long I know almost as much about the library as the ones with the right degree).

C.J. Boerger | 3 comments Hi everyone! I wrote a MG sports book for my oldest son. He's a 1st grader that devours sports books like a madman. I'm here looking for other MG sports books that deal with topics that aren't as mature as some of the YA ones tend to be. I can only write so fast after all!!

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 1680 comments Mod
Hi, CJ. There are a couple of writers who have books for that grade that focus on sports. Matt Christopher writes easy-reader books. Dan Gutman writes more middle-grade books about sports.

message 1157: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Boerger | 3 comments Thanks Rebecca. He's read all of the Dan Gutman books and is working his way through Matt Christopher. Luckily, Christopher has a ton of them!!

I also just was reminded of Mike Lupika--more sports stories.

E.R. Murray | 5 comments Hello everyone! I'm new here (in general - the group and goodreads) and I write, as well as read, Middle Grade fiction - my pen name is E.R. Murray and I've literally just finished the proofs for my debut (out in August) so I popped on here to say hello as a celebration. I live in rural Ireland, I fish, grow veg, write, and spend far too much time walking my dog. It's nice to meet you all!

Welcome, Natalie. I teach 4th grade in Florida, and I, too, am here looking for great books. There are many good suggestions here. I've become not very active, but summer break is coming soon.

Welcome, Natalie, and others I've missed! Yes, summer is a great time for reading, though I tend to be away from the computer more (another reason it's a great time for reading!) so am not as active here!

message 1171: by Katie (new)

Katie (helloecho) | 2 comments Hi everyone,
I'm Katie. Despite being in my mid-20s I still enjoy reading MG books! Especially and mostly fantasy. That is what I loved reading growing up so coming back to these books is like coming home - the ultimate comfort for me. This group makes me feel less like a freak for this!

I do have an ulterior motive too...someday I hope to write MG books myself. For now I'm good with reading. I've recently enjoyed reading the Wildwood Chronicles.

Hi, Katie & Laurence!
Katie, none of us around here need any excuse to read MG books, though most of us have them :) (My excuses are that I write MG, and that I work at the library so need to know what's out there to make recommendations ;) ).

message 1174: by Wal (new)

Wal Cuppernell | 8 comments Hello everyone,
I'm Wal. Like Katie I still read middle grade! I was one of those kids who read middle grade into high school and beyond - at first because of maybe some attention span issues but now for sheer enjoyment. I also write. And I agree with Rebecca, no excuses needed. When I first joined GR I asked my sister if there was a "I'm an adult but love middle grade" group. She found this one for me. I'm happy to be here! :-)

David, if you are looking for YA novels, there are YA groups on GoodReads you might hunt up. The books in this group target a slightly younger audience, usually 8-12 . . . . I know kids in this age group also read YA : )

Margarita Kouznetsova | 1 comments Hi guys, I'm Margarita Kouznetsova and thrilled to be a part of this group. I am a first-time author of my new book, The Lost Twins of Zilonia.

The idea for this book came to me one evening, and I wrote the concept overnight. However, the manuscript took nearly 6 years for me to write, and during that time I found out I was expecting twins. :)

I would love for you to check out my book blog where you can watch the trailer: http://zilonia.com/

The book is available for pre-order here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z...

As a new author, it would really be wonderful for you experienced writers to offer me your expert opinions. Thank you so much for your time!

My name is Steve Ceaton, I'm new to the group and to Goodreads :) I've just completed a middle grade novel which has been beta read by 6 children so far, and they all LOVED it. I'm hesitant to self publish though, or apply to publishers until I am 100% sure it's ready. I would love to find some fellow writers that would be up for a swap read?

Hi Melinda, would you be interested in beta reading a book? It's an old fashioned tale, and is a fun read. It has some great underlying messages and has proved a big hit with ages 8-10 so far. I've had 4 or 5 adults read it and they loved it too. Let me know if you're interested? :)

Thanks
Steve

message 1192: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Hi, my name is Diane. I am 42 and I love to read, knit, crochet and quilt. I love reading all types of books but I have fallen in love with YA recently. While I was exploring Amazon for future reads, I saw several that were considered middle grade fiction that caught my attention. After reading some reviews, I realized that I am not the only adult out there who reads these books. I have no kids but I have several nieces and nephews of various ages.

I am currently reading The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner but I cannot wait to try some MG books like Nightmares! (Nightmares!, #1) by Jason Segel A Fairy's Guide to Disaster (Away From Whipplethorn, #1) by A.W. Hartoin The Orphanage of Miracles (The Orphanage of Miracles, #1) by Amy Neftzger Jinx by Sage Blackwood Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier The Luck Uglies (The Luck Uglies #1) by Paul Durham The Thickety A Path Begins by J.A. White Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty and Kingdom Keepers Disney After Dark by Ridley Pearson . I welcome any other recommendations you may have. Happy reading!

Courtney Umlauf | 8 comments Hello! I'm Courtney, I usually love to read history, classics, bios/memoirs. In the last year or so I've started reading MG books. I worked a lot with my cousin (a 4th grader) last year to get her interested in reading. Trying to do that helped me realize that I didn't know anything about current MG books. I read a lot as a kid but I really wanted to find books that would catch her interests specifically, so I started digging for the best. I'm not working with her so much now (hopefully I can again this school year) but I've found I enjoy reading them for myself.

I love to see what other people think about MG novels so I can find more for my tbr list. Feel free to add me as a friend.
