Welcome to the group, Christopher! And Rita! We love getting new members -- jump into any threads you find interesting and join the conversation!
The Book of the Month is always a pretty active thread -- we leave titles up for six months so everyone has a chance to read and discuss. Also, we have a thread that lets everyone talk about what they are currently reading.
Would love it if you would scroll down to the Library and add your genre favorites!
Welcome Christopher and Rita! As teachers you might also have something to add to the current discussions of educational and non-fiction books!
Hi everyone, my name is Jim and I'm a stay-at-home dad with three voracious readers for sons. I'm always on the lookout for great reads for these guys, and this looks like the place to be. Thanks for having me!
Hi GMG readers. I'm an avid middle grade/ YA reader, reviewer and author. This looks a great place to be!
EM
Thanks for joining the group. Nice to meet both of you, Jim and E.M. Hope you find some great books. Would love to hear about what you are currently reading!
Thanks for the welcome, M.G.I'm reading The Girl from the North by Cat Bruno. It's an epic fantasy aimed more at YA readers, but I have Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children next on the shelf.
Welcome, everyone! Please do look around the forum and join any discussions that interest you. We have a group read each month, and keep the discussion open for 6 months, so it's never too late to jump in!
I'm reading 'The Resisters' by Eric Nylund and 'The Sisters Grimm - Book One' with my seven and five-year-old right now.
M.G. wrote: "Welcome to the group, Christopher! And Rita! I'm an author, although I haven't written anything for middle grade (yet).

Their mum and I both read all the time, so I think that helps. **bragging parent alert** They've also debunked a myth that I doubted but had heard in the past that boys are only really interested if the protagonist is a boy, too. Not so. Everything from Harry Potter to Matilda and back again, and all much loved.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! My name is Jan, and I teach 7th grade RLA. A lifelong avid reader, I work diligently to instill a love for reading in my students. I use literature circles and the Accelerated Reading program. Last night, I finished reading Knightly & Son. I'm always on the lookout for good books to recommend. I predict that I will find some very good ideas here.

Thank you for working so hard to keep your students engaged.

Thanks, EM! That's so lovely to hear. I hope you enjoy it.
Very excited to have joined Goodreads and this group. I've worked with legacy publishers in the past (non-fiction and short story, plays) but just decided to enter the world of indie publishing with a new middle grade series, "The Monsters' Anonymous Club." Just launched the first book on KDP and will be offering a print version shortly. This is a whole new world for me! Any suggestions (or recommended resources) for how to navigate indie publishing for Middle Grade readers? Huge thanks in advance! - John

Check out Litpick. They're a great place to put your book up, and actual middle grade/young adult readers are the ones that choose which books to read and review. I'm going to check out Monster's Anonymous next!

I had never heard of LItpick. What a great site! I suggested it to a friend of mine who teaches 4-5th grade reading. She is always looking for new avenues of reading for her students.

Jim, thanks for the info. I'll also check that out.
Don't we have some threads about writing and publishing? If not, maybe we should start an "authors helping authors" thread to share stuff like that.

Hi Jim, Great to have your suggestion. There's a whole section of threads called Author's Corner where you're very welcome to start author discussions. Cheers.

Hello everyone! My name is David and I've just joined the group.
My son was a reluctant reader when he was ten years old. Together we created a storyline and writing style he enjoyed and I've since written and published two books and am working on the third.
I'm currently reading Rick Riordan and am always on the lookout for good middle grade books.
Just finished a book called The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier. Couldn't put it down. Highly recommend!
V. wrote: "Hi Argyle! What's your favorite mg book? And do you care to share what your own novel is about? :)"
Hi V, I enjoyed all the HP books, Olympus books but am a sucker for Roald Dahl. He is a true inspiration although my own style is very different. My favourite is probably james and the giant peach, but it was the first book I read as child wholly on my own so I have a soft spot for it.
My own is a dragon fantasy called Alex Frost and the Dragons of Overearth (offered for free in the forums below... Plug) about a girl who discovers that she and her family are shapeshifting dragons from another world hiding on Earth. I recently received two review describing it as Harry Potter meets How to train your dragon - although I don't have a humour slant on it.
Thanks for asking :)

Hi, I'm Ben, an author working on rewrites of a pair of early MG Troll novels. I also review books from picture books to YA, but with particular emphasis on MG and lower, over at the My Comfy Chair blog. I am always on the lookout for good MG books to review.

I am looking for readers to review my MG book, Bumbling Bea. Is anyone interested in doing so for me?

That sounds like a great idea. Can't have too much, and I've found some great reads that way!
Hello members,My name is Darlene L. Scott and a new author of the book What A Nice Guy! Due to a work related injury I was forced into early retirement. As child sexual assaults and abductions plague our communities, I decided to write a book to raise awareness on child sexual assaults and abductions. W.A.N.G borders on the line of fiction and non-fictions, I was able to transform a tragedy into triumph by unmasking predator disguised as a nice guy! What makes my Children book different from literature, I created a safety lesson plan to encourage parents to have "The Talk" with their children.
As a survivor, I'm aware how painful it was to keep the secret and pretend to be normal when I was in the presence of the predator (My stepfather). I kept the secret for ten years because he convinced me that no one would believe me if I shared the horrific act. Why? Because to everyone else, M. was a nice guy. My motto is No Strangers! No Secrets! My goal is to have my book on the shelves of school, law enforcement and therapeutic facility. Have "The Talk" because once a child's innocence is taken, it can never be replaced.

Darlene, welcome to the group! What a great idea for a book. I can imagine it helping many in that situation and hope it was therapeutic for you. I'm so glad you were able to come out of secrecy and can now call yourself a survivor!
Welcome Darlene, Ben, Deborah, etc.! Thanks for joining and introducing yourselves. Please jump in and join whatever discussions look interesting to you. Feel free to post requests for readers, reviews, etc. in a thread in the Authors section.
Hi! I'm Paula Berinstein, former producer and host of The Writing Show, a podcast that ran from 2005 to 2012 (with occasional new episodes posted when I feel like it). I am about to publish the first book in my new series about an American girl who is forced by her parents to attend a secret school for detectives in the English Lake District. I love middle grade books because they're so imaginative. I see that everyone is mentioning Roald Dahl, and I have to admit that he is one of my favorites as well, but my favorite these days is J.K. Rowling, whose books I can't stop thinking about. So glad to join this group!!! Thanks for hosting it, moderators!
