NEW MEMBERS: Hi everyone, I've joined the GMGR group. I'm ......
Hi all! So glad to be part of this group! My name is Erika Kathryn, I live in the Windy City (and it sure is windy right now!) I am the Author of Audie the Angel and the Angel Army. Please check out the website and while you're there, I'm a proud momma of an 18-month-old "Angel," and you can see pics of her on the site: www.audietheangel.com Thanks for letting me join and I look forward to reading all the posts!

Welcome aboard Jenny.
Great to have you here.
Let me take this opportunity to welcome Jenny! I'm also new here and feel, like Jenny, slightly under-qualified. I've worked in engineering, marketing and training for most of my life. I've always enjoyed writing and have lots of unfinished stuff kicking around. When my children were young we read to them regularly at bedtime and this developed into telling made up stories that the kids enthusiastically added to. I've published short stories in magazines but with the advent of ebooks I've recently published my first novel on the kindle platform, under the pen name 'Rik Ravado', a humorous sequel to the Billy Goats Gruff Story. It is very much based on the story developed by my own children at bedtime (but slightly sanitised!)
Jenny wrote: "Welcome, Richard! Are you looking to write for middle graders? Novels? I am still looking forward to my first publication in a magazine or contest. Been eyeing self-pub and ebooks... not sure yet."My first novel (humourous) is more or less targeted at middle graders. I'm also thinking of writing a sequel but not sure yet. Self publishing on the kindle platform has been an interesting experience so far. But it is one thing to publish but another to sell books. I'm just beginning the marketing bit now. I've written quite a bit of content on the Internet and made money from advertising so that experience helps a little but it is tough to differentiate anything on the Internet or the Kindle platform because there is so much stuff already there!

Hi: I'm a journalist and author. I have a child who has a wonderful imagination and sense of humor. Together, we co-authored "William Edwards and the Wizardly Glasses," "William Edwards and the Secret Mission," "William Edwards and the Tower of Tazidan," and "Winkleberry: Waiting for William Edwards" (www.williamedwards.us). For those of you who have kids in this age range, I encourage you to team up and write, even if you don't publish!
Greetings, Jenny, Rik, David, and S.Z. It's a pleasure to meet all of you. Hope I someday have the opportunity to read some of your work.
Nice to meet all you new members. I am hoping to find more time soon to be more active... but I do lurk and read from the shadows.

I now have a literary agent!!! I might actually get it published. While I'm here, I just started reading "Wonder." Great book! A lot of you probably already know this though.
Hi! My name is Avery Hurt. I am a freelance science writer, and I often write for children and young adults. (I wrote the February cover story for Muse magazine.) I maintain a science Web site for children called Reality is Strange Enough at www.strangeenough.com. I read widely, but probably love middle grade fiction most of all. A few of my favorite children's writers are: Vivien Alcock, Daniel Pinkwater, E.L. Konigsburg, Diana Wynne Jones, Terry Pratchett . . . . I am currently re-reading the Danny Dunn series. Anyone remember Danny Dunn?

Hi, I'm Miriam King, and I love to read middle grade books! I have two boys who are growing up and moving on to YA, but I still love MG the best. I published a picture book with Albert Whitman & Company a couple years ago (LIBRARIAN ON THE ROOF! A TRUE STORY) and have recently epublished a middle grade, FIZZ & PEPPERS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WORLD.
Looking forward to the discussions within this group!
Hi everyone, I am Melissa Menten and I am querying a MG fantasy right and working on a YA fantasy. I have decided I need to read as many MG books as I can to improve my sense of what makes a good MG read. Glad I found this group!
Hey Melissa ... glad you found us.
I hope you find plenty of great reads to find that MG vibe.
Cheers

Rob and although I love all kinds of books (adult, nonfiction, etc) middle grade is my sweet spot for sheer imagination - before it (and my kids) grow up to become "edgy" with whatever that all implies.

Hi everyone! I'm so pleased to have found this group - thanks for letting me join you. My name is Wendy Leighton-Porter and I'm currently writing a series of time-travel adventure stories for the middle grade age group; the first four are already published and #5 is due out in the next couple of weeks. For me, books are one of life's great passions and, as an ex-teacher, I firmly believe that passing on a love of reading to the next generation is one of the greatest gifts we can share with them. I'm really looking forward to taking part in your discussions.

Hi, My name is Melissa and I have a middle school age daughter who loves to read, I recently read the term book butterfly as opposed to bookworm and that perfectly describes her! I joined the group hoping to find some new books and authors for her to try out.
She reads everyday or we read a book together, but sometimes she gets stuck on reading the same book over and over rather than try something new. I'm hoping to get some good ideas on new books/authors she may enjoy.

Hi all. I'm a shameless reader of books from every age group! I've been browsing for recommendations on this board and found some real beauts within 5 minutes. I can see that I'm going to like it here. Currently plowing through the Magic Treehouse books with my seven year old.
Hi! I've been on GR for a while, new to this group. I write MG fiction. I'm looking forward to taking part in discussions, hoping to gain insight relative to my audience.
Hi there... I just joined the group today. I'm a writer and reader who loves middle grade fiction. I have one published novel for young people: River Girl. I'm here to meet other people who read and/or write novels for children. My interest in middle grade literature started when I was homeschooling my two youngest children. As part of our homeschool studies we read a lot of books together! Then I wanted to write some... it has been fun and though the kids are adults now my books are going to be published.

Hi everyone! What a fun group, I'm so glad I found it. I'm a mom of a seven-year-old girl who is a bottomless pit for chapter books and MG. I also love reading MG and am writing a MG novel myself. We live just outside of Washington, DC. It's wonderful to see so many great suggestions, I can't wait to get reading!

Welcome Laura! I think my books are described as 'not girlie books' which isnt surprising since I've never been particularly 'girlie' myself. Give me horses and other animals any day! And trains. And biplanes...
I hope you have lots of fun here.
