OTHER CAN'T LIVE WITH/WITHOUT YOU BOOKS?

Who are your favorite literary couples -- either real or fictional - who have this kind of can't-live-with-you-can't-live-without-you relationship that Rhett and Scarlett have? My favorites are probably Hemingway and Martha Gellhorn and Lillian Hellman and Dashiell Hammett on the real side; and Catherine and Heathcliffe on the fictional side. Are there others?

I'm asking because I have written a book The Cost of Hope that is a real-life story of such a relationship and I've been asked to do a review comparing it to other stories like it..... and I'm trying to get as broad a sample as possible. Any help welcome!!!

In my novel "From the Chrysalis," college student Liza and ex-con Dace certainly shouldn't be together, but they are. Staying together is another problem, though. From the Chrysalis

On the fictional side, the couples in "Gone with the Wind" and "Wuthering Heights" are definitely my favorites too.

The Great Gatsby deals with a similar toxic relationship, and a love triangle (à la Ashley/Scarlett/Rhett).

The Way We Were, lead characters loved each other, but were just too different (personality-wise and politically) to have a happy relationship.

For plays you've got Tennessee Williams'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Brick and Maggie) Patrick Marber's Closer, and Tony Kushner's
Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches

Goodluck! And congrats on the book :)

Wuthering Heights, Catherine and Heathcliff.

There are so many. The first one I thought of was Peter Pan and Wendy. I know Peter Pan is a children's book so I'm a little off topic but he wanted to stay a boy and would have to grow up to be with her. My favorite doomed adult couples are Rick and Ilse from Casablanca and Catherine and Healthcliff.

Forbidden is a classic example of this kind of relationship.

No such thing as a can't live without you book... if your life is this bad it might be an idea to get out some more...
