PEOPLE(THIS IS IMPORTANT IF YOU'VE READ THE SERIES)!!!!!!!!!!!

But if you hated or disliked it please stop judging the people(like me who loved this series and..."
totally agree with that!
I had no idea people disliked this book that much. It's one of my favourites.

Meagin, this is an opinion, not a statement of truth. I'm not saying it's not true that you think they're extraordinarilly well written, but others may disagree and think they're quite poorly written. They would also be stating an opinion to which they are equally allowed and they would be equally right.
One of the problems with the hate AND love brigades are statements like that which lead the other group to feel the need to correct. People forget that we really can't decide the quality of something by arguing about it. I'm just musing on that btw, and I'm not trying to piss you off Meagin because i know you were just talking. It's not that we all have to be diplomats all the time.
Now OP I understand why you're pissed and it's not fair for people to insult others just for liking something and I've definitely been a little meaner about this book than I should have been (not insulted its readers though) but this is still a discussion forum for the exchange of ideas; I hope you're not trying to say this forum should be all gushing all of the time.
Sometimes when you read a book you really hate you want to share that opinion with someone else who hated it, the same as wanting to share a fond opinion. Sure it's not great to linger on negative things but it's what people do. If I've wasted that many hours waiting for something to get good and it never did (<- my opinion) I'm pretty annoyed and I feel like finding someone who agrees with me, it takes the edge off. Plus we have legitimate reasons to discuss the story line. Maybe we have questions or maybe we noticed a plot hole and we want to give people a chance to explain why it's not a plot hole.
Now I did the thing you said about imagining my favourite book and someone not liking it and yes, it does make me a little sad when people hate Graceling and Fire (even within the fandom everyone likes my favourite the least lol) but it happens.
I was a Harry Potter fan from the beginning and as violent as the Twilight hate was the Harry Potter hate gave it a run for its money AND it lasted many years longer. Twilight flared up in popularity and the hate followed but both faded fairly fast, Harry Potter lasted for almost a decade. It was tough, people judged me for loving a kid's story, hell it was banned in places but now it's years later I still love the books and I have a Deathly Hallows tattoo on my ankle as a big "fuck you" to anyone who feels the need to be rude about a fandom.
Because it's on YOU the fans to thicken up your skin and be confident and strong enough to like what you like and let the other stuff roll off your back. As nice a thought as it is in the OP the haters are never going away and telling them to will only make them troll harder. Don't ever let someone make you doubt yourself, ESPECIALLY someone on the internet. Know who you are, your identity is how you perceive yourself and nothing else matters.

I agree more with Samantha. but I do hate it when people hate on a book.

Meagin, this is an opinion, not a statement of truth. I'm not saying it's not true that you ..."
I totally agree, and thank you for not coming out and saying, "why do you even like this trash, it sucks, yada yada," I respect that. And I respect people like you who state their opinions kindly without throwing it in other peoples faces. I dont have a problem with people who disagree like you did, I have a problem with people who say stuff like, "I hate it and I dont know what kind of idiots like this stuff." Though I have been one of those people before. But thank you Samantha for you kind honesty.

I like when people give their opinions on my favorite books, especially if they disliked them. I want to know why they disliked them. I want to be confident in my favorite books, and I want to be able to defend them. If I don't know their flaws because I can't see past my love for them, I won't be able to defend them, and convince others they are good books to read.
And every so often I learn or notice something that bumps one of my favorite books out of it's top spot. It's not a big deal, because I realize there's often a difference between quality and entertainment. Some books I can't put down, but they're full of plot holes and lack believable characters. Others are beautifully written but not as entertaining. My favorite books have to have both of these qualities.

Well said! Same goes for movies with me. Some of the movies I throw on in the background all the time are simply terrible. I like watching action/adventure/fantasy while I'm doing housework so one that I put on often is Eragon, which I do enjoy watching but it's a terrible movie.
Same with books, I love lots of books that I would say aren't very good. Hell I even loved Hush Hush when I first read it and I honestly think it's pretty terrible. Another is the City of Bones series, I love them and buy them as soon as they come out but the author isn't very thorough in my opinion. I choose to LET myself be entertained easilly because it's more fun but I would never be so delluded as to think that just because I liked something it's the cream of the crop.

Idk when people hate on something you like, just shrug it off because you like it and your opinions are your own.

I completely agree with you. Hush, Hush is soooo much better than Twilight hands down. Patch is the only way to go. He's less whiny and a lot stronger of a character.

It's all part of free speech. People don't have the right to go through this life not being offended. While I don't really think it's nice to "rag" on the readers of the book, again free speech, I can disagree with you and you can disagree with me, sometimes it's not nice!
Seriously people it's a book, and a crappy one at that (just MHO), just a book, get upset about the systematic erosion of women's access to medical care, get upset about people starving, child abuse, murder, domestic violence, get upset that children are leaving education that can't read, spell or write worth a damn ect ect ect rather than attempting to curb my free speech with a call to niceness.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" Evelyn Beatrice Hall often attributed to Voltaire

You do know that the book "Finale" is due to be out October of this year. I loved the other books.

Totally agree

for those asking why people dislike the book, the answer is they say that it is absolutely against women. In their opinion, Patch is a stalker and a psychopath who doesn't deserve Nora (could write more in detail cause we had a big discussion in our literature class about the series) Personally, I believe that those people just see black or white, grey is an unknown shade to them. But in love and life, there's very often a grey zone!!
So guys just don't bother if they dislike it or even go against it, cause those are people who are intolerant and blind, we shouldn't engage with such negativity!!

As for the issue of people judging others for the books they love, to be honest, I don't think its completely wrong and not completely right. However, it is wrong to post any judgements about someone online. If you judge someone, keep it to yourself, and to be honest, I am someone who judges someone on what books they love (but not seriously/ extremely and depends on the series), but I would never even think of posting anything about someone online. People can think and judge all they want, they just shouldn't post anything.
Who really gives a damn anymore? I mean, people who are hating are expressing their opinion. A lot of these books were ok, but people had to start this whole obsession thing so then other people had to be "rebellious" and say they didn't like it. You can't ask people to stop sharing their opinion.

I totally agree, by telling people that they can't express their negative opinion, they believe that if they are against something than its wrong and that they should conform to society and not believe in them selves. I use-to care what people thought of me, now I just don't care (I thank my best friend for that she "converted me"). By telling people what to believe, they basically follow every command anyone gives them so they conform to everyone.

I don't want to incite a full on argument here but just like the OP doesn't get to filter people you don't get to speak for a group you're not a part of. In fact *I* don't even get to speak for a group I AM a part of but I will say this: maybe from what you've seen that is the case but for a lot of the comments I've seen it's the other way around.
I've noticed that people dislike the writing and structure of the book and/or they think Nora is a blithering idiot with severe paranoia issues. She jumps to conclusions in leaps and bounds that could rival a gazelle and she probably needs to get her shit together before she can even handle a relationship with a normal or even immature guy...let alone an immortal with a lot of years on her.
And I would like to thank you for painting all of us haters in the same shade of black and white you accused us of seeing. I'm very familiar with the colour grey - in fact I'm wearing a lovely shade of charcoal right now. You don't get to accuse us of being blind and ignorant for disliking something when we could just as easily accuse you of the same thing for liking this tripe.
The grey area exists in one's ability to see both sides of an arguement, not in others' ability to see YOUR side of an argument.
This whole thing could be summed up with this comic from PBF (which is an excellent webcomic if anyone read this far and clicks the link)

lol very awkward if your not a girl!"
i know haha"
Lmao :L

Samantha wrote "The grey area exists in one's ability to see both sides of an arguement, not in others' ability to see YOUR side of an argument." I agree ." How could anybody not like the book ? "I could tell you that and a lot of people could and would . Its an opinion not a fact . This book was okay not black or white , but gray. THIS IS WHAT I THINK , NOT YOU

Dear Samantha,
I never wanted to offend anyone who dislikes the book. In fact a few very close friends of mine are part of 'your group'. Maybe I didn't explain myself good enough. As I am a student of Literature doing my MA, this book was part of a huge discussion on our campus. And I didn't mean to judge those who dislike the writing, or the plot holes. In fact, I was talking about people who generally judge the story line.
What I was trying to say is that a lot of people judge the love story between the two main characters which in my opinion is difficult. Cause we are all individuals doing things that other people might not understand and still it can be right for us. It's the same thing with book characters.
So when I said that for those people gray doesn't exist, I was talking about those who judged the love between the main characters.
So again, I'm so very sorry if I offended you in any kind of way. That was never what I was trying to do.
I sincerely hope that our argument won't end like the comic you mentioned.
Besides you were right when you said that i shouldn't speak for a group I am not part of, so I wanna make sure that I was talking about the experiences I made with people who disliked the book.
And it was important for me, because in general I believe that even when I don't understand a love story between two people I would never judge them.
So once again, sorry to shade you black when you knew very well what grey is.
I hope you'll forgive my insensitive way :)))
all the best Nadine :))

I sincerely hope that our argument won't end like the comic you mentioned."
No worries dude, seriously. I misread your meaning a little myself. So many people on goodreads speak in sweeping generalizations and sometimes it gets under my skin. I realize people aren't going to try their bestest all the time to not be offensive or express themselves to their utmost clearest - for my part I mostly do it as a side effect to being so very verbose.
So I'm sorry for attacking you for not being a diplomat, and I see what you meant.
And for the record I wasn't concerned that you and I would devolve into a fight over Skub, I meant most discussions like this entire topic end up like that after a while and I always found it funny :P Hope you checked out a bit of the rest of those comics, they really are excellent :D

I sincerely hope that our argument won't end like the comic you mentioned."
..."
I guess we're good then :) I can relate to the point about generalization :)
Don't worry I didn't feel attacked I just felt a bit guilty for not expressing myself clear enough as I do not like generalizations myself :))
Indeed I checked out a view of the comics and found them funny and very believable :))
Still I'm glade we didn't end up like this :DD
