same with me i have to have just the right balance

I totally agree!
I also love it when writers have a beautiful vocabulary and use words that I am not familiar with. I enjoy learning new words :-)

Seriously, enough with the paranormal romance, people; it gives me a headache.
Also, if there is a comic relief character in your story, make them important, give them an effing personality, or take them out of the story. Really, NOTHING pisses me off more than a useless, sarcastic side character who has nothing to do with the story and just kind of sits there with the two main characters who are all in love and stuff. Even then, usually only the main character is all manly and stuff and kills all the evil people by being ever so clever (no rhyme intended).
Also, I hate characters that can somehow kill eight very well-trained minions or whatever.
Furthermore, for some reason, I really hate it when characters are fighting and the main character is being all clever and sarcastic and even funny. That is not the logical way to win fights. Coming up with terrible puns would take up most of your mind.

THIS.
Seriously, I don't drink, because I'm only 19, that and I have a highly addictive personality. I have decided that if I do drink, I'm making a drinking game out of Amazon's Top 100 Teen book section.
Rules: Look at the covers and descriptions
Romance? Drink. Vampire? Drink. One 18 year old looking girl with her back to the view? Drink. Weird flowy lights? Drink.
I had a giant list somewhere... Maybe I should post it XD

I have a couple of those the first will be published soon enough! The editing is ending!:)

I think you'd be unconscious before you got to the bottom of the page. Wherefore art thou, O Originality?

I haven't drinking grape Kool aid since.
I also hate Mary Sues, Gary Stus, sparse emotions, and nondescriptive actions.
Love unique characters and thought-provoking monologues. Frankenstein, Perks of Being a Wallflower, and The Picture of Dorian Gray thusly being some of my favorite works.

This is also coming from someone who has terrible reflexes. You cold walk up behind me and scream and I wouldn't blink.

I'm actually writing a novel in which that happens, only there's adrenaline and all sorts of other stuff. Cut is also referred to in later chapters, so I know it doesn't just disappear, though XD
I hate when a novel is set in a Mary Sue's POV, but her Gary Stu is the one that does all of the work, and Ms Sue does almost nothing of importance.

Hi five! Which ones are your favorite?

AND THAT IS A PROBLEM WHY?
Sorry. I can be sensitive about people thinking that comics aren't a true art form, as they are my favorite.
Seriously, don't be afraid to say that you like graphic novels. I like webcomics; it seems that there is a lot more variety and character development. Also, some of the plots are fantastic.
Furthermore, it seems like comics can be a lot less boring to me, mainly because they don't require massive amounts of description.

To some people, it's Watchmen, to some people it's Deathnote.
If I squee about Daredevil to a manga fan, they get offended. If I squee about Cain to a superhero fan, they think I'm a stupid fan girl.
I like all graphic novels. Minus the adult ones. I'm asexual.

Well...that is probably what will draw me to a book in the first place.
*hides*

Depending on the cover, I would be interested in the book this way. For example if I am in the mood to read a historical romance. At that time I see a handsome gentlemen on a beast of a horse, I will stop to touch the book; turn it over to read the summary on the back.
I'm the same. The cover is what draws me to a book. If a book has a boring cover, I'm unlikely to pick it up.
In saying thst, if a book has a boring cover but an intriguing title, I'm likely to read the summary on the back.

Most people I know look at books this way. I don't think any author thinks to themself: "Right, this book of mine is going to have a REALLY boring cover." :P

Wait! Who calls deathnote a graphic novel???!! They deserve to get shot
*get's shotgun ready*
btw, i am an otaku, and a comic book nerd. more of an otaku though......

My first book series is about ninjas and chinese black magic. would that be good????

I had recently designed a book cover for a book called "Violet," and my dad bought the book to display and say "Look at what my daughter did! It's pretty!" and my stepmom picked up the book and looked it over. She then asked why there wasn't a picture of the character on the front.
We asked her if it made her wanna pick up the book and find out who the character is and why she's not on there and my stepmom just stopped... and thought... and then went "Oh my gosh it does!"
Good designs intrigue, but do not paraphrase!

Agreed. :/
I nearly didn't pick up the first YA book because of the cover. I never would've picked it up myself had my friend not demanded I read it. :P
As Kirsten said, good designs intrigue. I do like a book with an intriguing cover! :)

Yes, YA...
Oops, didn't notice my mistake. :P
That'll teach me for trying to text and type.

A bit of Action. When I READ i like to see action (fighting).
A bit of Romance something like the book called I am number four. The author made me think about the relationship and that kept me going. It made me want to read the book more and more.
A BOOK THAT keeps me awake until 4 in the morning.
A book that keeps me thinking at the END. Like wow it ended like that.
WOW, What the hell happened to that character, I thought he'd still be in the book.
Oh, GOSH did that character just die.
Wow, I LIKE the way this character THINKS. (HAVE YOU GUYS READ THE BOOK FOUNTAINHEAD). In all my years of reading a book that book stood out to me. The CHARACTERS PERSONALITY.

Hahaha! Exactly!
I'll make sure to check it out!

If you're going to advertise, don;t do it in other people's threads.
Thank you.

Seriously, if someone wants to add a tarot reading to their stories, please find someone who knows about it and ask them. I know I'd be more than glad to help.
