How you became interested in historical fiction (or non!): My mom bought me a Civil War series when I was a little girl and I was hooked on historical fiction from then on. I rediscovered HF after watching TOBG and then reading it. I fell in love with Henry VIII and couldn't stop reading about him, although now my tastes are more in the non fiction realm when it concerns him. Sharon Kay Penman introduced me to Richard III and I've been interested about him and his family ever since as well. It's safe to say that if it involves a British Royal family, I will read it. And since all the royal families are connected, I enjoy reading about how they are all related and such.
Whew... I'm long winded today!!

Alisa, I have to say that your book, The King's Rose, was one of the best I have read about Katherine Howard. I read it at the beginning of the year (you had a giveaway and I was one of the winners, so again, THANK YOU!!). I can't wait to read Blood Confession!

How you became interested in historical fiction (or non!): I've been reading HF for quite a while, but I didn't really realize it was my favorite genre until joining Goodreads. Looking back at all the books I'd read, I realized that a lot of them were HF and those ones were my favorite :-)

Job: a former lawyer reincarnated as a writer of historical fiction
Hobbies: no hobbies for me unless I meet my deadlines, but I do have a glass studio where I create one-of-a-kind glass beads. I also like to read, travel and cook.
Favorite Book: I could never pick just one and my favorite tends to shift with my mood but I can’t live without my Jane Austen: The Complete Novels (the ultimate comfort food—I turn to Jane in times of stress) or my set of Alexandre Dumas’s writings (when I am in the mood for a swashbuckling treat).

Food: pretty much anything with cheese or chocolate as a major ingredient.

Any websites you want to share: my own author site is www.sophieperinot.com under my “for readers” tab I have a page with links for history lovers that I adore. I have even more history and historical-fiction related links at my blog.
How you became interested in historical fiction (or non!): I come from a family of history nuts. My sister is a professor of history. My husband and I both majored in history undergrad. We are the kind of family that discusses history at the dinner table. I’ve been reading historical fiction (including the grandfathers of the genre Sir Walter Scott and Alexandre Dumas, père) since childhood. So when I decided to give my dream of writing a chance to come true, historical fiction was an obvious starting point.

Pleased to meet everyone!

I really like anything to do with ancient egypt and rome. I would like to see more books about Hatshepsut. Maybe we should petition Michelle Moran. I really enjoyed her novels. Favourite Book: Plain Kate by Erin Bow
Favourite Song: Any song from Les Miserables
Favourite Food: Pasta and Cheesecake
Favourite Sport: Dance (Modern, Highland, Ballet)

I love reading, singing, dancing, being with friends, music, history and writing.
I hope to one day be a published author.
I'd really like if someone read the story I posted here on Goodreads.
When I was three my family had a book on the Titanic, and I loved looking at the book and making stories up about the people in the pictures... I've really just always loved history. Everything about it fascinates me. I often say I was born in the wrong century. I'd love to live in the early 1900s, or even 1800s.
Historical fiction I like because, even though it's not real (except for the history... You get what I mean) it's still giving facts about life then.

How you became interested in historical fiction (or non!): I read A Crown in Darkness by Margaret Mullally as a little kid and I loved it. It got me into Lady Jane Grey. From there, my love of historical fiction was born (at least it's the first historical fiction book I read that I remember leaving a big impact on me). I don't remember how I got into historical non-fiction. Possibly from that book as well?

Glad you found us Sherry! Your novel sounds really interesting - I think I own a non-fiction book about those four sisters (just moved so can't find the book right now unfortunately).

Welcome to the group, and a warm welcome to Jennifer and Kathleen as well!

Sara, yes, it's FOUR QUEENS by Nancy Goldstone. I read it when it came out and found myself wanting to know more about the sisters -- so I wrote a novel about them.

Perhaps someday this group will read my book. It has sold well, and has gotten many positive reviews.
