Aww, Kat, so sorry to hear about your dog! Hope she will be ok soon! I totally know how you feel. My dog went through some pretty serious surgery just last fall and it was tough for the whole family.

Thanks...with a little TLC she should be back to normal in about a month.

for male lead I'm picking Touch (Denazen, #1) by Jus Accardo it's short, just over 250pgs and it also works for the new series shelf too, which we are also set for!

Lauren (laurenjberman) Sorry to here about your dog Kat. So glad that she will be OK.
Thanks for the recon. It would be better if new series gets picked for the next shelf because I don't think we have any competition for that one.

Jackie M | 695 comments I agree with you Lauren, new series would be better and also I think the book choices are much better from that shelf.

Pure (Covenant, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Shelf for August 5th:*Series Catch-Up(Personal Shelf)
Book Chosen:Pure ~ Jennfer Armentrout
Date Read:August 9, 2012
Rating:5♥♥♥♥♥
Review: There are simply not enough words to describe how much I loved this book! This is the second installment in the Covenant series by Jennifer Armentrout and It just keeps getting better and better.

Book 2 is so full of action that I felt like i was on a constant roller coaster ride, and the love triangle between the 3 main characters was just fantastic, I have no Idea who I want to root for more Seth the so full of himself , but all round good guy or Aiden the forbidden Pure blood with a heart of gold.

The ending was a total cliff hanger and now I'm at a loss as to find something else to read until the next installment comes out in November. Jennifer Armentrout has a way of drawing you in and is now firmly in my top 5 authors to read! Loved it!!

New Shelf is Angels

message 421: by [deleted user] (new)

There are just to many choices...I've narrowed it down to these four:

Demon Kissed (Demon Kissed, #1) by H.M. Ward Immortal City (Immortal City, #1) by Scott Speer Nevermore (Maximum Ride, #8) by James Patterson and Angel of Darkness (The Fallen, #1) by Cynthia Eden

I scored demon kissed for 95 cents on kobo not bad for an almost 500 pg book :)

message 423: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2) by Larissa Ione

Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione
Shelf: Angels
Finished: August 13
3.5 Stars

Synopsis
Cursed to suffer eternal torment if he falls in love, Shade has made every effort to avoid the one woman who may make him succumb, Runa Wagner. Runa has sworn revenge against the demon who betrayed her but now she and Shade must work together to escape the dangerous enemy who would destroy them both.

Review
Good story despite the cringe worthy elements (cheating heroes and BDSM are not my thing).

Runa is likeable enough although it is a shame that her Warg abilities are not shown to their best advantage (she always seems incapacitated in some way). Moreover, she starts out enraged with Shade for his past behavior and holds him responsible for the attack that turned her into a Warg. The problem lies in the fact that she is far to forgiving of the first and misguided about the second.

Shade is a jerk and it is difficult to work up much affection for a man who is a) willing to kill someone close to him to save his own ass and b) feels compelled to hurt women ostensibly "for their own good".

Nevertheless, the world building and the secondary plots are well worth the effort. The moral ambiguity of the demonarchy, the conflict with Roag and his minions together with Gem and Kynan's romance and Wraith's intriguing emotional struggles all make this an entertaining read overall.

Shelf:Angels
Angelfall by Susan Ee

Rating:★★

I really struggled through this book. Apocalypse, dystopia, cruel and violent angels and cannibalistic-demonic children are not my cup of tea at all.
I only give one star to books I don't finish so in this case the two stars came only because I managed somehow miraculously finish the book.
And I hate what those monsters did to my beautiful SF.

message 436: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments Skandia sorry to hear you didn't like Angelfall, I on the other hand loved it.

message 437: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Thanks, Lauren. I'm really sad the trip is over!

I loved Angelfall too but I guess we all can't like everything!

I like in books when places we love are destroyed. If it was all imaginary we wouldn't feel anything! It's like that scene at the end of Planet of the Apes.

Personal Demons (Personal Demons, #1) by Lisa Desrochers

Shelf for August 12th:Angels
Book Chosen:Personal Demons ~ Lisa Desrochers
Date Read:August 15,2012
Rating:4♥♥♥♥
Review:First I would just like to say that Angels is not one of my favorite subjects to read about when I'm choosing a book,so It took me more then a few tries to finally pick the right book for this weeks shelf. That being said I have to say that I really enjoyed Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers.

Her writing was very fluid and has a wonderful flow to it. The story was told from two points of view which I thought I would have a hard time with but actually found very interesting, instead of being in just one characters head I got to be in two.

A while this is still your typical YA book right down to the love triangle I found myself enjoying all the teenage drama a lot. The characters were extremely likeable, although I did at times find our Heroine to be kind of annoying in the I must forgive myself department. The male leads were swoon worthy and I'm still not sure who I would have picked if I was our Heroine...lol ;)

All in all a solid read, and I will be continuing on to the next book just so I can find out who gets the girl, the angel or the demon, for more on that you'll just have to read and find out :)

Lost in Time
Shelf Angels
Date read 8/17/2012
2 stars

This book was one of those books that had a lot going on, but not much happening.
It felt like Jack and Schuyler were chasing a pipe dream and were just running in circles to find the gate.
Then there is Mimi who by some miracle has grown a heart and a conscience. It was weird that her and Oliver were so close and that he went to hell with her. I hate to say it, but I am glad that she was able to find some peace with Kingsley.

I find myself looking forward to the next book because it has promise to be good, but I won't set my expectations too high because I don't want to be let down.

Here is where everyone stands with Bingo as of Angels shelf:

Team 3:could win with Kick Ass Heroine or Sci-Fi Romance but has to finish angels to get a win with Scifi Romance

Team 4: could win if Reader's choice is called

Team 5: could win if New2You:Author is called but has to finish Angels & Demons to get the win

Team 7: could win if male lead is called but has to finish Angels to get the win

Team 11: could win if Dragons or Dark Fantasy is called but needs to finish angels for a win with Dark Fantasy

Team 12: could win if Psychic is called but needs to finish angels to get the win

Team 13: could win if reader's choice is called but has to finish Urban Fantasy & Series's Catch Up to get a win

Team 16: could win if male lead or paranormal Romance is called but needs to finish angels to get a win with paranormal romance

Team 18: could win if reader's choice is called

and last but to least :)

Team 17: could win if male lead or new series is called

here's hoping we get New Series called this week! Go Team :)

message 446: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments Thanks for the run down Kat. Looks like bingo won't be going on too much longer.
I really hope New Series gets called.

I may be missing a bit today, we are going back to school shopping, I will try to check my phone for the new shelf.

Have a great day everyone!

message 447: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I get the impression that we won't get a Bingo this week either. I think the mods like it when more than one team has to fight for the finish and so far only two shelves give the win to more than one team - male lead and readers's choice (I think). So if we get the winning shelf this week and we get to fight for it, it will most likely be male lead.

D.G. | 2752 comments SHELF: angels

Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand

Title/Author:
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Read for shelf: angels
Date finished: Aug 18
Rating: ★★★★½
Review: This is the third YA book with angels I've read this year that I completely loved. It just seems to me that authors are coming up with more exciting, intriguing and profound stories in this sub-genre which they manage to make uniquely their own even if they use some of the same plot points.

Clara is a very good character, the right combination of normal teenager that worries about her peers think and supernatural being with a purpose.

Like you would expect with YA, there are two interesting boys circling our girl - I don't know that I would call it a love triangle though - but the way those relationships progress serves a purpose that really advances the story. When I read about two love interests in books, I usually pick one and stick with him to the end but even I was conflicted by how things developed.

I loved the Wyoming setting - don't remember a book set there - and the descriptions of the outdoors activities were simply wonderful. It made me want to go there.

All in all, I already got book 2 in the series and will be reading it soon!
