Dark Frost (Mythos Academy, #3) by Jennifer Estep

This was an ok read. I have only read Meg's chick lit books and really enjoyed them. The story is about a teenage girl who goes to live with her aunt and uncle in New York because she had few issues back at home in Iowa. Her cousin believes they are descendants of a witch who was burned at the stake in Wales. Typical teenage antics leading up to a school dance, humilation and some magic.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'm changing my free space read to Dark Embers. I forgot that I planned Lady of Light and Shadows into a Follow The Leader challenge on another group. I have to read the track in order and the next book on the track is Dark Embers which happens to be on the SOS shelf.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Does the quiet mean everyone is busy reading? I will probably have a slow start with this. I had 2 non-fiction books and 1 urban fantasy to read for paperbackswap. But I have 1 of the NF out of the way, and the 2nd one is only 200pgs. The UF works for several shelves but if none of those is called on Sunday, I'll have to start it anyway.

But after that, I won't have any books to read that have to be mailed by a certain date. I just happened to have 3 games end right after I signed up for this.

It wont be a problem after next week.

I am about halfway through the book I picked for young-adult-paranormal, The Near Witch. I am having a hard time getting into the book so it's slow going.

I just started my free read book.

message 58: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I should be starting my book tomorrow or Friday and will probably finish it over the weekend.

I hope everyone is doing ok.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Ack. There are multiple stamp requests already and I haven't finished a single book for this. Just bad timing with my paperbackswap obligations. I did read the first 50 pages of my free space book last night. I brought it to work with me so I can read it this afternoon if it's slow.

I'll have to take the whip to myself if I don't get caught up.

message 62: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Thanks Sandra yes stressful especially when DH has one idea of packing and I have another. Also some tight deadlines at work. Off work today to get some errands done.

Mary no rush to read. No bingo for at least 4 weeks but i know the feeling of being at the weekend and not done all my planned reading.

I also signed up for a scavenger hunt challenge. Should be interesting finding books that will cross both challenges.

message 63: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I picked Dark Embers for my free space book because I can use it for multiple challenges.

I know how you feel! I will feel better when I have my free read book done and just have to worry about the current shelf. It is nice to know we have at least 4 weeks before a bingo.

message 66: by Kim (new)

Kim I finally finished one of my books!

The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab

The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab

Shelf: young-adult-paranormal
Finished: 6/22/2012
Stars: 2.5/5

I was excited to read this book because one of my favorite young adult blogs had loved it. I had a hard time getting into it from the start though. I thought it moved too slow. I also had a hard time connecting with the characters. And the romance seemed to come out of nowhere. I can see why some people really love the book, because it is well written with beautiful language, but I prefer books with a little more action.

Glad to be continuing with Bones n Cat

Happy reading everyone

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yay new shelf. I'll most likely be reading Whispers in the Dark (KGI, #4) by Maya Banks . I'm tempted to use Inheritance because we're starting the audiobook tomorrow. But it's 26 discs long and since I'm listening to it with my daughter, it might take me a couple of months to get through it.

I finished my Free Space book.

Dark Embers (Dragon's Heat #1) by Tessa Adams **** 6/23/12

Loved it. Of course dragon shifters are my favorite so that could be part of it. I'm glad I have book 2 and I hope the dragon shelf gets called soon. I liked how Phoebe stood up to him when he was pulling the uber-alpha routine.

Kim I am going to read Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare for the favorite-series shelf.

What is everyone else going to read? :)

message 71: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ Hey all! Just checking in...Good luck on your move Zina! I don't envy all that packing and unpacking one bit. :( I am so thrilled you are enjoying the Bones Series! I have not started them yet. I am trying to get all the books so once I get started I can just read them all at a time! lol

I will pop back in later with my review for young adult paranormal shelf. I am running a bit behind this week too Mary so don't feel bad hon.

My favorite series shelf I am going to go with Uglies by Scott Westerfeld Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

message 72: by Kim (new)

Kim I am changing my choices a little bit. I had picked Prophecy of the Sisters for my free read, but I wasn't really liking it. So I am moving Clockwork Angel to my free read. For favorite-series, I will read The False Prince.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I got about 75 pgs of my YA book read last night and I'm hoping to finish that tonight to catch up.

I see the stamp request thread racking up posts so I'm hoping we can ask for one soon. Hopefully Diane will check in soon with the books she's reading for the Free Space and Favorite Series shelves.

message 76: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Hey all. Not sure what I'm going to read yet for Free Space or Favorite Series, although I'm probably leaning towards Quicksilver for favorite series. Still working on my YA, but I promise to be caught up with everything before the end of week 4.

message 77: by Mary X (last edited Jun 26, 2012 05:47AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Here's my review for my YA book:

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White **** 6/25/12

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars. But that's because I'm not a big YA fan. I listen to YA books on audio with my daughter and they're usually more of the straight fantasy variety (Harry Potter, Inheritance etc..,). I got this from my daughter's TBR pile because it was on the shelf and not a doorstopper. It was entertaining. If my daughter wants me to read more of the series with her I will. But I probably won't read anymore on my own.

message 78: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I will be going away in the afternoon of 7/1 and coming back 7/3 sometime.

This early in the game, the updating can probably wait until I get back. But if we get to where we can ask for a stamp and you don't want to wait: someone can do the request for me if it's allowed. I've been keeping the front updated with post#'s of reviews.

I'm still not even really sure how to submit a stamp request. I was just going to figure it out when we were ready. Which will hopefully be soon.

message 79: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25913 comments It's easy Mary, once you know how. When you have the list complete including a link to the reviews, it is just a matter of linking the list to the Stamp Request thread.

To link the reviews or anything else, right click on the time/date link to the right of the persons name and click on copy link location.

This gives you a URL which you need to paste into the html code. The html code is the first one on the list in the (some html is ok) above the comment box eg. <*a href="http://www.goodreads.com">my link text* (I've added the * so it will post) In my link text you write Review or something appropriate :)

If you have any problems, just post and we'll go through it again.

message 80: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments so I have to type <*ahref=" before each link and link text after? How time consuming.I hate the goodreads editing box. On paperbackswap you just copy a link and paste into the thread.

message 81: by Mary X (last edited Jun 29, 2012 11:40AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments

Ok apparently that's not it because the link is not showing up in this post.

message 82: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments OK now it shows up but it just links to this page and not the review post.

So I am not getting how to do it.

message 83: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25913 comments Well Mary you can just copy and paste the link to the page the review is on but that wouldn't look very good. It is basically the same principle.

To do an eg: your review above

Copy and Paste the first link in the (some html is ok) box (without *)

<* a href="http://www.goodreads.com ">my link text

Then: To link the reviews or anything else, right click on the time/date link to the right of the persons name and click on copy link location. (without *)

http://www.goodreads.com */topic/show/924440-r5-team-11-ocean-s-11?page=2#comment_52974503

Now you put: /topic/show/924440-r5-team-11-ocean-s-11?page=2#comment_52974503

Behind gr.com from the 1st link, and write Review in my link text

So it would look like (without * or space)

<*a href="http://www.goodreads.com */topic/show/924440-r5-team-11-ocean-s-11?page=2#comment_52974503">Review

message 84: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Are those examples you just posted supposed to work? If I copy and paste it into the URL I get a gibberish page. If i click on the linked part, I just get the home page.

I think I know how to do it now. It just seems so time consuming compared to posting links on PBS.

message 85: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25913 comments No, the egs aren't supposed to work cause I added the * so you could see what the html should look like.

You only have to click on any of the review links posted on the other groups or even the stamp request links to see where it takes you.

This installment of the Night Huntress series had me laughing, cryingfeeling frustrated and wanting to pummel Bones. There were a few times i was saying what a dumb ass youcanbe Bones. Surprisingly i ended u loving this story. Lots going on in this book. Great series.

The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen

The False Prince (The Ascendance Trilogy, #1) by Jennifer A. Nielsen

Finished: 6/29/2012
Shelf: favorite-series
Rating 4 stars

I enjoyed reading this book! It was a lot of fun. There were a lot of twists and turns in the book and it kept me interested. I haven't decided if I will read the next one or not. It didn't have a cliff hanger at the end, and although sometimes they drive me crazy, it makes me read the next book!

message 91: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Me too:

Whispers in the Dark (KGI, #4) by Maya Banks *****6/29/12

Maya Banks is an autobuy for me. I was worried when I found out this one had a paranormal slant to it. I like paranormals but sometimes I jsut want a regular romantic suspense. But it just had psychic element to it which was cool. I can't believe I have to wait until next Tues. for the next one to ship to me.

message 94: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments The link only seems to work if I just copy link location and then past it. Not very pretty but since works that's what I'm using. When I add the stuff from the html ok box then nothing shows up at all after I hit submit or I just get the my text link which doesn't work.

message 98: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I finished my YA Paranormal book today (6/29) and gave it 3 stars.

Gwen is a gypsy-girl and Nike's champion in the war with the Reaper's who are trying to free Loki so he can turn chaos loose on the world. She and her friends (Logan, the bad-boy Spartan, Daphne the valkyrie and others) go to school to learn how to fight and survive. This time Loki's champion makes an appearance as they search for the Helheim dagger to free him. I like this series because Gwen is an interesting character to follow as she learns how the supernatural world works. I also like the mixing of all the different mythologies.

Dark Frost (Mythos Academy, #3) by Jennifer Estep
