Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Heart Mate (Celta's Heartmates, #1) by Robin D. Owens is good. I love the cat.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments FYI: all the shelves left to be called give at least 1 team a Bingo. So there will most likely only be on more shelf call.

The good news is that we are still apparently the only team that can win with dragons at this point.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Does anyone know where there is a link to the Dark Fantasy and Male Lead shelves? I'd like to pick my book out ahead of time in case they are picked next week, so I don't have to waste time searching. Especially since I'm going to be busy that weekend.

message 354: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ I am reading Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson for my Magic Book.

Rosina | 1714 comments Finished magic shelf

The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1) by Kelley Armstrong

4.5 stars Aug 27

I wasn't sure of what to think when i first started reading it. It started off a little slow but picked up. It definitely became a page turner though as suspense builds. There are parts of this book that will make you stop and think, wow this kind of stuff could be real. The characters are very interesting in their own way, each with their own sort of problem and unique personality.

I really loved this book. The characters were relatable and not overly angsty, but each with a unique personality that brought something new to the book (sweet main girl, silent somewhat jerky guy, cool nice guy, snarky mean girl, etc.) It felt kind of like the movie 'Girl Interrupted' but co-ed and with superpowers. The plot was straight forward (home for kids with "mental illness" where something else is obviously going on), but with some twists and turns along the way that I did not see coming.

Overall, I would say it's a great book, it's suspenseful, it has mystery mixed in and holds your attention at all times.

Kim I finished my magic shelf.

Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan

Immortal Beloved (Immortal Beloved, #1) by Cate Tiernan

Date: 8/29/2012
Ratings: 4 stars
Shelf: Magic

I had gone back and forth for a while on whether to read this book because I wasn't sure if I would like it. I finally decided to try it since it was on the magic shelf and it was available as an audiobook. I ended up really liking the book! I was afraid I wouldn't like the main character, but I felt like her real desire and struggle to change made her likable. The only thing I didn't like was the swearing. I wish there had been a little less. But I loved the story and plan on reading the other books in the series.

Kim Now, I just need to get my 2011 book finished and I will be ready for Saturday!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Review for my MAGIC book:

Third Grave Dead Ahead (Charley Davidson #3) by Darynda Jones 4 stars 8/30/12

I would give this 5 stars but some of the wise-cracking gets a little corny. They are funny books although I wouldn't recommend them to anyone looking for a cozy-type paranormal. I'm kind of worried that it's going to turn into an endless series of "who will she choose: Ryes or Swopes" (or maybe Donavan or Luther if those characters stick around). I loved who they picked to be her guardian. I was worried they would kill off a major character and keep them on as a ghost. I will definately keep reading this series.

message 363: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I own Heart Mate but Third is a library book with a waiting list so I had to read that one first. I like Heart Mate so far. The cat is hilarious.

Rosina | 1714 comments How r we doing on getting caught up on our reading. Will we have all the shelves done for our possible bingo win?

Hoping for a dragon shelf call cause that will take the pressure off of reading really fast.

Everyone got their books picked and ready to go for the shelf announcement?

message 365: by Mary X (last edited Aug 31, 2012 07:06AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I plan on reading Turn Coat for either dark fantasy or male lead. I have a bunch of dragon books but I will probably go with Lady of Light and Shadows. I might go with a dragon book on my Kindle so I can have it read to me when I'm doing housework.

I'm going out Sat night but unless the shelf is posted late, I should see it before I go out. I won't be home really late. These are all either audio or kindle books for me so I can listen in the car and while doing other things.

JenniferJ Magic Book Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Tiger Lily
4 stars
Completed: 8/31/12

I really enjoyed reading Tiger Lily because it gave me a whole new perspective on Peter Pan and was truly one of the best love stories I think I have ever read! It was magical and heartbreaking all at the same time and I did find myself with tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart because it really drove the nail home that love hurts and that not all stories have happy endings, and the guy/girl doesn't always get the one they want but instead have to settle for what life deals them.

At first I found it odd that although the book centers around Tiger Lily it is actually told by Tink but I soon realized that I don't believe this story would have been as great told any other way. It was incredible...

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Ok, I just finished my magic book (8/31) and gave it 4 stars.

review:
I'm really enjoying this series. The more I get to know the residents of Enchanted Village, the more I like them. This time Darcy is hired to clean out a house of a missing woman/hoarder and finds a body. She and her friends are soon snooping to figure out what happened all those years ago. I think the romance is going nice and slow (and no triangle in sight) and the characters of the town should lead to plenty of stories in the future. I also really enjoy the familiars.

A Witch Before Dying (A Wishcraft Mystery, #2) by Heather Blake

message 368: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments So I'm about a quarter through my 2011 book and will have it done before the shelf is called. I was looking through the possible winning shelves to figure out what I'm going to read and the male lead shelf quit displaying after I hit page 16. Anyone else having the same problem?

message 369: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I will do updating tomorrow. I'm too tired today. I will do it early I am going out to tomorrow and then all day Sunday.

I am going to be gone tomorrow evening and a good chunk of Sunday. I hope she posts it fairly early so I can get one started before or go out.

I'll also be gone a lot on Sunday. But I'll check as often as I can. If it's a winner for us: I'll really try to get my book finished before we go out on Sunday and get my review up. Then someone else can submit the shelf request if we all get them done.

message 370: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments OK so I can request the Magic shelf in the morning. Then we just need Diane and Kim's reviews for 2011.

Of course last weekend I had nothing much going and this weekend when there's a really good chance we could win: I am super busy.

If I have to I will stay up really late Sat night to finish.

message 372: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Ok that is submitted. I was hoping she posted early again. I have a bunch of errands to run and could get a big chunk of an audio book done. Oh well. I'll check back after my errands.

Sandra | 25913 comments Mary, I don't think she'll be posting for another 5 or 6 hours, it isn't even Sunday in Japan yet :)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Finished my 2011 book today (9/1) and gave it 4 stars.

review:
Well, I was expecting fluff and was surprised as this ran a bit deeper. Lucius and Jessica/Anastasia were betrothed at birth to end a vampire war. Baby Anastasia was left in the care of visiting Americans when her parents were killed and brought up as Jessica with no knowledge of vampire life. Lucius comes to her town her senior year to full the pact. There is normal teenage angst and some distractions as Lucius comes to terms with his family's plans and Jessica comes to terms with herself. The last third of the book is quite a bit darker than expected from the beginning, but good.

I really enjoyed the letters Lucius sent to his uncle as he was getting familiar with America and Jessica. I like that Jessica grew up and gained confidence. I did think it was a bit sexist that female vampires don't really become vampires until they are bitten. Overall this is really the story of two teenagers learning to be themselves despite their past.

Rosina | 1714 comments Psychic shelf called. Reading Moonshine by Rob Thurman.

Winning shelf for 3 teams. Was a good round we came close a few times

message 376: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I don't think I'm even going to bother with a psychic book. Not right away anyway. I want to finish up some already started books. Then if Bingo hasn't been called by the time the next shelf call nears, I start one. But I'll be surprised if that happens with 3 teams in the running.

I'm kind of relieved. I'm going to be gone all day tomorrow. I could have read a good chunk of a book in the morning but I doubt I would have finished it tomorrow. I would hate to be the one to cost us the win.

message 377: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ I to think I am going to hold off on reading a psychic book unless for some reason a Bingo isn't called in the next day or so.

I just wanted to say it has been a pleasure playing with you group of ladies and I hope we fall into groups together again! {{Huge Hugs}} We gave it our all! :)

message 378: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I know we are still waiting on a 2011 review. I will check when I get home tonight and if the review is here and no one has called Bingo, I will still do the stamp request JIC we go another week. I haven't checked the 3 teams in the running. For all I know they could all be behind on the shelves they need to get Bingo, but I doubt it.

message 379: by Kim (new)

Kim I still have my 2011 book to finish, but I am going to abandon it, I think. I checked out the teams to see if there was a chance they wouldn't finish, but two of the teams are now caught up so I am sure they will finish this week. If it gets to Wednesday and no one has won, I can quickly finish up the book.

message 380: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'll be surprised if Bingo isn't called in the next day or two.
