Shelf:Magic 8/30/12 ****1/2 stars
I am giving this 4.5 stars. I loved the start to this series. I have read the third one before this one and really liked it, but I loved this story. Carly is a charming heroine, who gets stronger and more interesting as the book progresses. Gideon is a werewolf who ends up wounded on her doorstep. The usual mating thing occurs and yet the author handles it in a much different manner than other stories. Gideon is a tentative alpha character and he is very endearing. Great chemistry, wonderful humor that is ladled out with a careful and delicate hand, interesting storyline and easy to read prose. What more can you ask for. I love the mix of shapeshifters, highlanders, magic, and other paranormal elements. Gideon is part of a Highland werewolf pack that guards the Stone of Destiny. He has been trying to escape his own destiny but it hasn't worked. A member of his pack has decided to engage with an evil entity and steal the Stone and kill Gideon and his father, who is Alpha. The worldbuilding gets a little confused here and there, but the story moves along so quickly that it's easy to overlook. Great start to a series!

Thanks sounds like a good one Leslie. I haven't heard of that series.

I finished Georgina and it was good! Will be back with thoughts and a review when I've got more time. Almost time for a 3 day weekend!!

Silver-Tongued Devil by Jaye Wells
Shelf: Magic
Date read: 29/30th August 2012
Rating: **** 4.5 Stars
This is the fourth installment of the Sabina Kane series, and each book is just as good as the one before. They suck you in up until the very last page.
There is more of the murders, magic & mystery we’ve come to love in each book, and the answers are rarely the one you expect. Sabina really wears her heart on her sleeve here & is still fiercely loyal to those she loves. She faces a lot of choices and the ones she makes really shows just how much she has grown and changed throughout the series. Gone are the days where she jumps up & down to get her point across ir kills before she thinks.
Her wittiness with Alexa, the conversations at the sex shop, the roller derby names & the banter with Mr Giggles all had me laughing out loud, and from the developments around 90% I was crying my little eyes out. Sabrina just never catches a break.
Another amazing book by Ms Wells. I can’t wait to go onto the final book Blue-Blooded Vamp, thank the gods its already out!

I totally agree. I have read most of her books I think, and in each series her characters are so different, but addictive.
I tossed up between Seth & Roman too. I remember crying like suck a little girl in the last one. The only thing I wished for? More of Carter! I loved him :)

I cried in the last one too :) Couldn't help it!!

I find all the talk about Richelle Mead interesting. I have read one of her books - Storm Born - and I gave it 3 stars, but it did not make me want to read more. But maybe I should try another series. I don't like triangles though, and she seems to do them in all her books.

I don't mind a triangle in a story as long as it's resolved relatively quickly. And yes, married life does tend to put a stop to that kind of fun! Reading about it suffices for me - LOL

Book: Heat Wave by Richard Castle
Shelf: 2011
Rating: 3 stars
Date Read: 1-Sep-12
This was a cute little book that reminded me a lot of Castle (the TV show that spawned the book). I have to say the writing wasn't fabulous and at the beginning of the book I had trouble with the narrative. However, about a third of the way in (once the mystery was more established), I had no trouble reading along.
Lots of funny moments, it definitely has a similar tone as the TV show and I did picture the TV characters in my head as I read the book. The mystery was good, I went back and forth on who-dun-it, but I've also been told that I am easily surprised and don't pick up on obvious clues!
3 stars. Not sure if I will get the next one or not.

Today is shelf announcement day and hopefully it will be our paranormal fantasy shelf!! (FINGERS CROSSED!!)

As I said, finished Georgina a couple days ago and wow, this series was quite the emotional roller coaster!
Leslie - I don't like love triangles either, but this one did not bug me at all. The emotions in this series are so real, it didn't feel like a contrived plot device like so many triangles do. If you're looking for some fun dramatics, this is a great series.
Series Catch-up review
book: Succubus Shadows
read: August 29, 2012
rating: 4 stars
It's kinda weird trying to review this book after finishing the 6th one, so it's kind of a reaction to both books.
Just a couple people I want to mention.
Jerome
(view spoiler)
Roman
I liked him when he first showed up, knew he'd make a return but unsure how that would play out. I love him and think his ending sucked. If Georgina and Seth can have a happy ending, he should get one too. He's definitely one of my favs of this series.
Carter
Squeee! Jumping on the Carter fanbus. (view spoiler) He gave me some of the more emotional moments in the last book. Awesomeness he is.

And I am ready if our shelf is called - I am chanting quietly to myself while watching football. It works!

Also, I requested our Series Catch Up stamp, so that means we are all caught up!! :D

It's been really fun reading with you all :)

PS: Vivian, I held out hope that Jerome would come thru in the end. He was really unclear to me but that was the great part. I'm kind of glad that he was just a demon. Made for a good ending.

Thanks for giving me heaps to read ladies. It's been so fun!

Thanks ladies for the most fun round of bingo up to date! I have loved all of your reviews and chatting books with you :)
Last shelf, it took me a while to find a book, but I did! Going to read

Dulcie O'Neil is back. She's made a bit of a change to her job and is working as a consultant to her ex-associate Regulators and is about to become a published author. This second book brings us a new case to solve with more humor, conflicted romantic situations, more magic and more bumbling. Dulcie is a flawed heroine. She is stubborn, makes bad decisions for good reasons and seems to punish herself unnecessarily. She's sort of a martyr but not in a good way. In the end you still end up liking her and pulling for her. This is a fun series for an easy and enjoyable read. I keep saying that it is a easy read because of the humor and while there are some dark elements to the story - it remains tongue in cheek. I sometimes think that calling a book an easy read is like calling a grown woman cute. But, it is an easy read and sometimes that is what you need. I will - for sure- continue with the series.
