Leslie, I don't mind some tease and build up, I actually think I prefer it to five pages and I'm in love type books. But the build-up needs to go somewhere!

I will be reading

Shadow of Night
Deborah Harkness
Shelf: Urban Fantasy
5 Stars!
I like details and this is the series for me!
I really loved this book. Everything about it is big. Lots of pages... lots of story and sub story... lots of new characters.. and lots of details..
Diana and Matthew do some time walking. They hope to find some help and some answers in Elizabethan London.
What they find is more then they originally are looking for. They struggle to keep hold of what they based their relationship on as modern people - in a not so modern place. There is a big spotlight on what Matthew has to overcome to be the man he is in present day. Also, that he hasn't truly been a man for a very long time. So why does everyone expect him to act like a man, I ask you?
I like that the story shows their flaws. She isn't instantly a super witch and she gets a bit of a lesson about humility. He has to revisit some less then proud moments and reveal a person he isn't so proud to have been. There are trust issues, secrets and lies, Questionable friendships and creepy relatives - I couldn't ask for more.
The reasons that some people disliked this book are the same reasons that I love it! Isn't that the way.
I hate to do this but.. this series is beginning to remind me a bit of the Outlander Series (my "if I could only take one series with me."). In a good way! I think it is all the tiny little stories happening along the way as well as meeting some true people in history. This book was hard to summarize for me. It has a little bit of everything and I just loved it.

Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews
Shelf: Series Catch-Up
3 3/4 stars
There is something special about the Ilona Andrews team. The stories aren't complicated and the characters aren't exactly deep but there is just something that makes all the books so great.
Gunmetal Magic is no exception. It had just the right amount of Humor with all the action you have come to expect. It is a fast paced read that was hard to put down.
Spin-offs don't always succeed. Sometimes they are too different and sometimes they are not different enough. This book pulls it together nicely. We get to zero in on Andrea but still get a bit of the world and characters that we enjoy so much.
During the Kate Daniels sereis I have come to really love Andrea's character. She is a badass, tough, loyal friend to Kate. They have a similar sense of humor but.. where Kate is a lot of black and white, Andrea's edges are a bit blurry. She's a bit softer at times and a bit damaged.
This book see's her coming to terms with the some life choices and some things she did not choose. Andrea finally gets to take control of her life and accepts what and who she is.
My only problem with this book is that sometimes I forgot that Andrea was not Kate. They have the same tone. I didn't get that while reading her small parts in the Kate Daniels books. Side by side they are differnt. Solo - I think that they may be too similar.
But listen, that is ok with me. I still loved every minute of it!
A couple funny things: I read someone compaired the cover model to Ashley Simpson. Ha Ha. Also, have you ever watched the fake book trailer on Ilona Andrews good reads page... very funny. I wish I could have them over for a BBQ and some drinks. I bet they are a ton of fun.

Thanks Leslie, I think that I'm going to get this on audible too. This is the kind of story that i can go back to over and over and not get bored. I'm one of those nuts who will reread or listen to the same book over and over.. I dare to say it is better then the first one.

The first non-young adult title I found was:

Angels Blood by Nalini Singh
I'll give this one a shot. I didn't have any angel books on my to read pile.

I know, right! I can say it all started with:The Outsiders
I read that book until it fell apart and I had to buy a second one. "stay golden ponyboy".
I'm going to go see if they have that movie on Netflix. My fave was Dally.

Great reviews ladies, as usual. I'm really looking forward to GM! The Harkness series might not be for me, maybe too many details, but glad you loved it :)
I read Angels' Blood and enjoyed it a lot. It was actually my first Singh book and did not disappoint.
Yay, Succubus on Top is on the shelf! Going to continue the series :)

My re-reads were Little Women and Black Beauty starting when I was 8 or 9 I think. 2 of my daughters are Harry Potter fans and my oldest who was in 3rd grade when the first came out is on her third or fourth copy of the book. It's a family sickness!

Now time to look for an angels book.....

Good Job!! :D

Yes it's exactly what you think, and yep I had a paddle. It's hard work! Fun though, and we had beautiful weather this past weekend. I got a little too much sun though so I don't need to use any blush this week!
Woo stamp! Thanks Sandra and Steph!

And I agree, it's great to have kids that read! Though mine aren't really kids anymore. I was in B&N with my son recently and he strolled by reading a book of Latin poetry - in Latin. So strange!!

Shelf: Angels 8/14/12 **** stars
This is the second in the series about a woman who was born The Grim Reaper. Charley is now a PI who assists her uncle in the police Dept. solve cases and also works her own cases all while helping stuck souls cross over. The premise is a little farfetched and alot of suspension of belief is required. She has been shadowed all her life by Reyes who is actually the Son of Satan (yes, that bad guy)and he appears in her life when she is in trouble. The first two books have contained storylines that involve her learning who he is and trying to rescue him. His body is in prison for having killed his father after years of abuse. I actually find this part the hardest to swallow. Given the abuse, it is unlikely he would've have been convicted of more than manslaughter. Oh well, moving on. The book is tightly written, humorous (which can get old)and easy to read. Charley is a rather endearing heroine, though sometimes it's hard to get a handle on who she really is. Her sidekick Cookie is fun and the other characters in her life are also well done and fun to get to know. Reyes is a very dark character and his role in her life is still very much up in the air. There's actually very little contact between them in this story and a definite cliffhanger at the end. Much of the story is about her actual PI case she takes on and since I love procedural police stories, I really enjoyed this part of the story. Overall, a really fun series and I look forward to seeing where she's going with it.

Finished my Angels book Succubus on Top
8/13/12
3.5 stars
Book 2 in the adventures of Georgina Kincaid. This was fun while reading, but is ultimately forgettable to me. I only finished this a day ago and don't really remember much about it. Still like Seth in this one, though I have heard that future books may change my mind about it and it makes me a little sad. But seriously, a sexless relationship with a succubus who's getting some on the side just seems doomed to failure.
The mystery part of the story was interesting but like the last book, a little predictable. I like most of the characters a lot, and Bastien was a fun addition to the book. It was nice to read about their close relationship.
Oh my goodness, I totally blocked out newly made barbie succubus! I don't know if I can read the next book without throwing it against the wall. Please tell me it's not as bad as I think it'll be??

I've got my review for Biting Cold done but the computers playing up & using the iPad just won't make the cut. Will post it tomorrow.
Am really enjoying these reviews ladies!

Biting Cold by Chloe Neill
Bookshelf: Catchup
Date Read: 9th August 2012
Rating: **** 4 Stars
So, I have been waiting since November last year for Biting Cold and now that I’m finished I sit here wondering which shelves to put it on. It’s part of my bestest ever series, but I didn’t feel that this book that has earnt that shelf. Now to decide on the rating.
Let me start by saying that I am Merit’s number 1 fan. If she was for real I would stalk her with fan mail & wanna be just like her. As for Ethan, he’s up there on my lists as well. But where this book did have a lot of Merit/Ethan time, it just didn’t have the fun factor in the first 4 books. You know, the snark, jokes and attitude that made those books the bomb?
It’s heavy. There is certainly nothing to celebrate or laugh about being a vampire in the Cadogen house. Life has not returned to the norm just because Ethan has returned from his ashes. The GP is trying to take down the house, Mallory is trying to destroy the city, Mayor Tate has multiplied & deaths ensue, Ethan has a disturbing connection to Mallory and Merit just wants some of Ethan. – Who can blame a girl?!
The story line is packed full of drama, and as usual, Merit was in the thick of everything. She is showing time and time again that she’s got the goods. Whether it be trying to solve the Tate and Maleficium mystery, learning what is in the future with the GP as well as working through issues with Mallory and finding out what was happening with hers & Ethan’s ‘halted’ prelationship – as Lindsay called it.
Overall, the things I love about these books are the characters and I loved being with them again. I enjoyed seeing all of our old friends, even if only briefly. Gabriel & Jeff, Grandpa Merit, Catcher & Mallory and of course Team Cadogen (Merit, Ethan, Luc, Lindsay & Malik). I was pleased that things appear to be looking up for Ethan & Merit (and it’s about time too!). The only thing I am hoping as we wait for House Rules due out in February is that we see some of that fun and joking that seems to be absent in this book. I can’t wait to hear what the future holds for the Cadogen House next. I have a feeling it’s going to be a biggy after the most recent revelations...

And Vivian, I will definitely look into this series. I love police procedurals and to add the UF element just adds so much more.

Leslie, it's so fun. How did you stop at only the first? Ethan anyone?!
I have a review book, so thats gonna have to be it for this weeks shelf

Angels' Blood
by: Nalini Singh
Shelf: Angels
rating: 4 stars
Am I the last person on earth to read this book? I have to admit that while I should.. I don't love the Psy-changling series. I've read the first 3 and I don't get the mind bendng / no emotion part of it. I should - I like that crazy stuff but it's was hard a couple books in a row.
This book, however, was a big surprise. I liked it more then I expected . It was a fresh story and unique take on the angel and vampire concepts. The author has a nice writting style and a subtle way of developing her world. I liked the main characters Elena and Raphael. I wouldn't mind meeting Rapheal in the white light at the end of the tunnel. (Ick. That sounded dirtier then I meant it!) I especially liked the supporting cast of characters.
I may just check out the rest of these books or give the changlings another try.

And I love the supporting cast too! I can picture Ilium with his blue wings so well in my mind :)

I guess Gentlemen Prefer Succubi will just have to stay on the tbr pile....

Not at all YA Lisa, definately Urban Fantasy I would think. Really snarky & sarcastic. Just all around really fun.
I really liked the Guild Hunter books, I liked Raphael & Elena. I haven't read the most recent book, but I will.
Ugh I haven't even started my angel shelf book. Have not being looking forward to this shelf at all.
Fingers crossed next weeks shelf is a goodie!

And Leah, you are going to be soooooo happy with Lethal Rider!! I was really annoyed that I had read it the week before the angel shelf was called.

oooh, i'm reading the first two riders again before I get to the new one. Cant wait to hear what you guys think about it.

You have convinced me to move on to #4.

Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione
Shelf: angels
Rating: 5 stars
Date Read: 18-Aug-12
I loved this installment in the Lords of Deliverance series! I'd been looking forward to Thanatos' book for a while, and it didn't disappoint.
After seducing Thanatos in the last book, Regan is now nine months pregnant with a son that is destined to stop the Apocalypse. She plans to give away the baby once it's born, but she wavers on this decision throughout the book. Than, after 'escaping' his siblings, finds Regan and (understandably) is shocked to find out he will be a father soon.
This book was the perfect mix of sexiness, sweetness, and grittiness. I think one of the reasons I like this series so much is because the gritty, dark plot of the Apocalypse is balanced really nicely by the love stories. This book is not without its fair share of gore, sadness and horrors, but I think that just makes the reader understand and enjoy the tender moments between Than and Regan more.
An awesome love story. It was maybe a little less steamy than the prior two books (probably because Regan is very pregnant throughout the story), but I thought it still worked really well. I liked Than's reaction to Regan's betrayal in the prior book - he still desperately wants her, but feels that he should be upset with her, so he treats her cruelly at times.
Regan was a bit irritating at times with her lack of self-worth, but it does make sense with the plot. I had been wondering in the previous book why she would agree to bear Than's child, and this book explained it.
I can't wait for Reseph's book (book 4), and for Reaver's book (book 5)!

I'm going to go with Succubus Dreams. Still chugging along with my series catch-up book.

Week 10: 2011
Lisa - To Kill a Warlock by H.P. Mallory - Review (August 30) - ★★★
Leslie - Witness in Death by J.D. Robb - Review (August 22) - ★★★★
Vivian - Succubus Dreams by Richelle Mead - Review (August 24) - ★★★★
Jodie - Divergent by Veronica Roth - Review (August 22) - ★★★★
Leah - Heat Wave by Richard Castle - Review (September 1) - ★★★

Date Stamp Requested: Sept 1

Thanks Leslie, I am surprised I like the series so much. Usually, for me, paranormal romances are nice, quick reads that I don't remember for too long afterwards. This series though I find really sticks with me! I need to know what happens next!!
I am continuing with the October Daye series for the 2011 shelf.
Finally four in a row (once we get the 2011 shelf stamped), I guess this means I need to pre-pick out a paranormal fantasy book!

And yay for this shelf!! I'm so excited that we'll have 4 in a row once we get the stamp!! Go Sixers!!

Awaken by Sarah M. Ross
Bookshelf: Angels
Date read: 15th August 2012
Rating: ***1/2 - 3.5 Stars
The description gives you an accurate idea of what the book is about. What it doesn’t tell you is how you will experience the intense emotional upheaval that Lucy goes through while transitioning to her new life as a Patronus. And not a Harry Potter shaped Patronus either :D
Awaken gives a whole new spin on life after death and how and why it all happens. Lucy was killed in a car accident and was recruited to the Patronus ranks. She became the newest team member to transport and protect newly departed spirits from nasties like vampires & werewolves, while they await the decision on their final destination. Was it to be with the Alpha aka Heaven or the Omega aka Hell?
I was so engrossed in the story and just wanted to know what was going to happen. I wanted to know if she would survive her brutal attack, what the strong connection she felt with Max was, and whether she would succeed in a mission that was fraught with danger and emotional baggage.
Poor Lucy didn’t know whether she was going sometimes. There were surprises in store for her around every corner. And can I add? None were good ones. If she wasn’t confused about her feelings, she was exhausted from her huge progress, if she wasn’t scared for her own life and those around her, she was confident that she could handle the mission closest to her heart. Mostly Lucy just gets on with it and does what she thinks needs to be done, putting one foot in front of the other.
While her tantrums did get a bit tiresome (I can’t believe 700 year old James and the others put up with so much!) and her reluctance to take direction (sometimes Lucy knows best – ya know?), I really did like her. Most of the time. Sometimes the gazing into Max’s eyes and his gorgeous smile and dimples gave me butterflies, her self-motivational speech “Are you going to react or are you going to act? You’re not a bystander in your life. You’re in the driver’s seat so step on the pedal already!”got me thinking and her hilarious thoughts made me laugh out loud. ‘Oh, God! It was a wife. Well, crap on a cracker! That sucked big time.’ Hahahaha and what about this little piece of gold “Oh my gravy, you startled me!” So funny.
While we got some answers before the heart breaking tear soaked ending, there are plenty of questions left unanswered. Like who is the spy in their realm? Will they manage to save Jessica before it’s too late? Can Lucy come to terms with the fact that she ate the apple? I for one will be looking for answers in Avenge upon it’s release in November...
