R5: Team #6 ~ Get My Book Fix Sixes

Thanks Leslie, I was out for dinner! :)
Shelf is shifters! Make sure to do a double check that your book is on the shelf. It needs to have a 'shifters' tag (not even shape-shifters is the same).
Lisa I am so jealous, I don't have a copy of Gunmetal Magic yet!!!!!

And Leah - no worries. I was home last night and was very impatient!

I'm off to look for a new book. I don't see a "shifter" shelf. I should be looking at were-shifter, right?

I'm going to read Wolf At my Door by Christine Warren when I'm done with my mope. I've had it on my nook forever. Plus, I don't think any of us have read it. It'll be a surprise...just like the book of lady knitters. (grump).

Your book is good for the shifter shelf Lisa. The easiest way to tell is to go to your book page, then on the right hand side click 'See top shelves...' at the bottom of the genres section. Then it will bring up a list (there are multiple pages) of all the shelves for that book. In this case, I can see the shifter shelf in the first column about midway down for Wolf at My Door.
But don't worry, I will check every week for everyone too ;-)
Also, just a heads up ladies that I will be out of town for most of this week, but should be back for Saturday. Not sure how much internet access I will have while I'm gone. We're holidaying in the mountains so it will be some nice r&r&r (the last 'r' is for reading!!!)

If you pull up a book on GR and then look to the right of the page, you will see where it says GENRES. That tells you how it's been shelved. Then you can click on SEE TOP SHELVES and it will take you to a listing of all the shelves for that particular book. That's the way I do it.

JINX!!!!! ;-)

I was looking at the SOS main page and going into the shelf there. This is what happens with my baking and furniture assembly... I never read the whole instuction before charging ahead and things turn out wonky.

They replaced Gunmetal Magic with a knitting story?! That really is epic disappointment. But now you can wait with the rest of us common folk not lucky enough to get an arc :/
Leah, enjoy your RRR!

I wish the real Leslie peace and quiet too!"
Hehe, glad I'm not the only one confused by all the L names!

I am scouring the shelf for something today...I just dunno what I'm going to go with. There's a few I'm considering...
Have a wonderful break Leslie.
Happy reading ladies!

I read it. Not really going to spend much time with a review. The book lacked excitement. It wasn't horrible but wasn't great either. I like some realism in my books and it's nice that Sookie got a couple days without being beat up, but it isn't necessary to go through your mundane day minute by minute.
We're approaching the end, and things are starting to wrap up. I'm ready to read the next one and be done with this series.

Yippee. Yay. Hooray!

Totally understand the laundry & floor issue, its the same here ;)

Yay Sandra. I love the sass & snark. Ooh & Des :D :D

Keeping Secret by Sierra Dean
Bookshelf: Shifters
Date Read: 11th July 2012
Rating: **** 4 Stars
Keeping Secret it the fourth installment of the Secret McQueen series, a series that I can count on for a tricky romantic scenario, sass & snark and lots and lots of action. All throughout this one I was anxious. I didn’t know what was going to be in store for our resident asskicker, but I knew it was going to be dangerous and fun.
The only thing I knew about wedding dresses were that they were all white, tight and probably impossible to kill someone in.
Unless that someone was Kimberly, in which case I’d find a way.
If Secret wasn’t fighting to stay alive throughout numerous assassination attempts she was planning a wedding to the werewolf King – Lucas – one of her soul bonded mates, she was on the receiving end of some confusing statements at the council. If she wasn’t advocating for Brigit’s Warden status and dealing with ridiculous pack politics, she was making out with one of her hunky lovers. One thing rang true all the way through - her fierce need to protect and do right by her people, friends & family.
“Your Royal Highness,” she greeted. I didn’t like her tone. Or her face. Or her dress, for that matter.
Perhaps I was being a touch judgmental.
In previous installments we saw Secret struggle with both halves of her nature, whereas in Keeping Secret the emphasis was on her werewolf half. Her vamp half seemed to have sunk well below surface and I seemed like she had come to terms with both a lot more. Secret appeared to have come to terms with a lot of happenings and I felt she was a lot less stubborn and thought about possible consequences much more. I’m not sure which I prefer.
In Deep Dark Secret (no 3), Secret was easily distracted. She flitted between lovers, the vampire council and her position as pack protector. She was so much more responsible and grounded in this installment. Holden was moody, and often stomped & threw tantys whereas here he was calm, cool & collected and totally wanting into Secrets panties. Des was determined, protective and loving throughout the last, often showing the side of him that shows his beta position to the werewolf King but now he just seemed defeated. Where is his fighting spirit? I immediately felt the loss of lime on my lips at the discovery. I soooo want you to fight for Secret. To hell with the Pack. Do something. Anything. Team Desmond all the way to the moon & back :D
And with that, I peeled out of the parking spot with enough burning rubber to make Steve McQueen proud to share a name with me.
Lucas. He doesn’t even deserve my carbon dioxide let alone my keystrokes. I maintain my thoughts from my previous review. Douchebag. Although to a much much greater extent this time round. I can’t stand him and wish that Des would take him out already. I got a better understanding of pack politics, but it made not one iota of difference to my feelings pertaining to him. What a dick. If he and Secret have deluded themselves that they are in love, even just a little, they are morons. I didn’t feel a real emotional connection between them. I admit they had sexual spark, but I would go so far to say that Secret has that with many men. If they weren’t sexing they were hating.
Now that I have finished, I have so many thoughts and feelings that I don’t know what to do with. I have so many more questions than answers and my heart is a little bit broken. Secret still always had a witty retort and her stubbornness shone through a little at times, I am pained to admit that I missed some of her independence and her determination to be true to herself. She seemed a lot more go with the flow this time. I hate that she is leaving the decision regarding her lifelines to fate and want her to find her assertiveness again and go after what she wants rather than what is easy.
Oh Brigit, I am so scared for you right now. I think you rock and want so desperately for you to live forever & ever. What an awesome friend.
Sig. What the eff man? Why all the secrecy? We are going into the 5th book and still no answers? Geez.
Juan Carlos. What is your problem man? I just don’t get you. Why all the hating all the time? Sigh.
Grandmere & Le sorciere. What can I expect from you two? I know there must be something. Oooh and Hank? I think there is a story there too.
See what I mean. I can’t get my thoughts straight. All I can tell you for sure is that I CAN NOT wait to find out what’s in store next for Secret and the gang, will hopefully glean some overdue answers as well as a little more dialogue with Dominick…

Secret is actually really (really really) awesome!! I love my heroines kickass & sarcastic and she has spades of both. I blame that stupid soul bond rubbish for their sexual connection. Sigh.
Love those shelf names. Fun!

This is a fun, light regency romance with paranormal elements. It is the 5th book in the series about a Lycan pack in England and this one branches off to another group of brothers, Weston, Gray and Archer Hadley. They are not accepted in society and are penniless and uncouth. Weston has been in love with Madeline, who is the daughter of a Duke. She has met Weston before but never paid much attention as he is beneath her in station. Her father is intent on marrying her off and invites several gentlemen to their country home for a house party. Weston accompanies her brother. Inadvertently she sees Weston as he changes to a wolf and he feels compelled to kidnap her and elope to Gretna Green. The story gets a little silly at this point as Madeline has to overcome a very stuffy upbringing on her journey north. The characters are engaging and the story stays light and fun. It bogs down a little at the end but is always enjoyable.

So Awesome. I don't know how I'm going to fit that word so many times in my daily conversation to go down that whole list! So funny.

Jodie, I loved your review!!! I've read the first two Secret McQueen books, I need to take the time to read the next.

Book: Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
Date Read: 9-Jul-12

I really liked this world and its characters. We are introduced into the story in a unique way -- the first chapter occurs, then the second chapter begins fourteen years later. The story immediately draws you in and you want to find out what happened during the past fourteen years.
I found Toby (the 'changeling' half-fae, half-human narrator) to be very fascinating and likeable. This book had some insight into her character, but it did suffer a little from first-book-itis (lots of introduction, not too much depth).
I did have a little trouble keeping all the various characters and groups in the world, but I liked meeting them all. I'm especially curious about Tybalt, the King of the Cats.
I will definitely give the next one a try. Four Stars!!

Luckily 2 people shelved it as Ghosts and I wasn't one of them - LOL!!

Second thought. Wasn't there a ghost book from a couple weeks back? Yes, The Restorer.
I've had Midnight Riot for a year now, so going to try that first. If it doesn't do it for me, Restorer is the next Ghost book on my list :)

Love this series too Jodie! I'm excited to see what you think of it. I'm waiting for my copy to come in at the library so I can read it. I hope there's a lot of Death in this book <3 <3 ... And for those of you who haven't read the series, I'm not really morbid... Death is a character.

I am not a huge fan of cozy mysteries, but I love this series by Ann Charles. This is the third in the series and it is getting better and more interesting as we go along. Violet is a struggling real estate agent and has the hots for Doc who sees ghosts. She is not sure she believes in ghosts but strange things have definitely been happening. In this story, she is contacted by someone who wants to buy a haunted hotel in the town and in her attempts to sell the property all sorts of strange things happen. Violet also gets involved in looking into a mystery at the local funeral parlor even though the local police detective has been warning her to stay away. The humor is written with broad strokes, the characters in the town are wonderful and her relationship with Doc is conflicted but hot. Her struggles to raise her 2 kids and her struggles with all the paranormal happenings are woven into the story in a very tight weave and are easy to read. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Book: Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane

Background on this series for those who haven't tried it out: Cesaria "Chess" Putnam works for the Church, capturing real ghosts and uncovering 'fake' ghost hauntings. She's also a drug addict who lives on the wrong part of town. These books are pretty dark and gritty and Chess makes a lot of poor decisions. She does not value herself at all, and believes that she is truly unlovable (which, at times, seems true based on her inability to act appropriately in a relationship).
It's taken five books, but our little Chessie is finally growing up! This was the first book where I felt that Chess really began to change significantly as a character. The earlier books in this series have been leading to this eventual change, but by the end of this book I actually felt like Chess had maybe developed some amont of self worth. Having said that, of course she is still my favorite hot mess, and this book is not lacking in 'Nooooooo Chess!' moments.
Murdered drug dealers are being found around town, along with dark-magically enhanced packets of drugs. Bump, our beloved local drug lord, puts Chess and Terrible on the case. Hijinx ensue.
I felt a lot more comfortable with the story in this novel, compared to the last one. Chess and Terrible's relationship is a bit more solid and we begin to get a little bit more insight into Chess' drug habit (though I imagine this will be a long road).

I’ve read these 3 books from the Alex Craft series in quick succession. I couldn’t put them down. Although I was hooked on the first two, this book made me anxious right up until the 99% mark. It was intense.
This book has Alex setting up her new PI business, dealing with her planeweaver abilities, and investigating a stream of suspicious suicides for her first client. A lot of mystery and action as well as a couple of new characters I think will play big parts in the coming installments.
What I love about Alex is that she isn’t stupid. She considers the consequences to her actions and tries to get help from the authorities before taking matters into her own hands. She does make mistakes, but it’s not as if anyone is helping her to make better decisions or sharing information. I love that Alex doesn’t come across as cocky, but I wish she was more confident and stood up for herself and her abilities. Her blindness is a huge vulnerability and I love that she has started to factor it in when making decisions. Alex puts her friends in front of herself but I only wish they would show a bit more appreciation for her. I thought her interactions with Roy were great, and am looking forward to finding out what the future holds for him.
Her friends pressured her into attending the Equinox ball in Faery, even after she relayed all the things that could go wrong, and what did they do? Drag her there. Then desert her leaving her to go toe to toe with the Winter Queen. Fallin. I understood that Caleb was pissed about the weekly raids ordered by the Winter Queen and wanted her to choose a court or declare being an independent, but instead of explaining the different courts and assisting her to make a decision. He just kind of gave her the cold shoulder. I enjoyed her friendship with Rianna, but I didn’t get why she didn’t arm her with the information about the courts either. After all, she has lived there for hundreds of years.
When it comes to the men in her life, this book doesn’t give us any answers. Last book focused on her relationship with Fallin whereas this book showed us more of Deaths background and his love for Alex. I hated that Fallin was being puppeteered but still managed to lead her on with snippets of affection and red roses. I know Alex will eventually have to make a decision, but I can’t for the life of me work out how either will come to fruition. Last book I desperately wanted Fallin to find a way to break free, and this book I can see that Alex has a deep emotional connection with Death and that he may very well be the one for her.
I was left with many questions and feel dis-satisfied with the answers received so far. I want Alex to push harder for answers. Particularly with her father. What is his agenda? What was her mother that she needed to shield herself with a charm? What did he mean that her siblings were backups? What debt will she be called upon to pay the mender? What is the significance of owning Colemans properties in Faery? Can Alex take the Winter Queen out? Ooooh I hope so!
Am desperately hoping that the next book sheds more light on the different courts in Faery as well as her family history...Can’t wait for more Alex Craft!
