I have been a bad girl this week. I totally got sidetracked and read a whole bunch of books - just not my Bingo book :(
I will finish it this week, promise. Alongside my ghost book. I just need to find a ghost book first.

Good Job!! :D

Free Space: Deadly Descendant
Finished: July 14
Rated: ★★★★
I was really torn what to rate this book, I liked it, and I loved the last 100 or so pages, but it just seemed a little ho-hum for the majority of it. But in the books defense, it took me a ridiculously long time to finish it and I think all the breaks I had to take broke up the flow too much and made it feel slower than it was, which is why I'm going with 4 stars. Also, once things heated up with Jaamal I enjoyed it a lot more. Nikki Glass is a descendant of Artemis (the Greek Goddess of the Hunt) and in this book she's trying to find a death god with a pack of death jackals. She just seems to luck into her hunting abilities and I'd really like to see her attempting to hone her skills a little in future books, her reluctance wears a little thin for me. Overall I enjoyed the book well enough and am still looking forward to the next one.

And I'm reading

Thank you Sandra :)
I have requested our Free Space stamp now, thanks for the review Julianne. I was also disappointed in Deadly, I'm hoping the next one is better.

For my Ghosts book, I finally found something to read. I will be reading

How be?
I am almost done with my selection for last week's shelf and hope to start this week's book later, so next week, I should have two reviews for you. Sorry :(

I'm not sure if I'll get much of a chance to pop in on Sunday. It's my son's 4th Birthday and he is super excited! He's been planning this for months :)

Happy choosing!!

Taking a break from the madness... being called back in again ;)

Tempest's Fury, Book 5 of Jane True series
Last we knew was that Queen Morrigan killed her King in public and escaped with Jarl. In this installment, Morrigan tries to ressurect the Red and the White. Morrigan successfully resurrects the Red Queen (they share Morrigan's physical body) in the hopes of becoming more powerful, as you can probably guess, Morrigan does become more powerful, however, the Red Queen is overpowering Morrigan, taking over her body slowly. Morrigan originally intends to have Jarl be the vessel for the White King, although things don't quite go according to her plan. Along comes Jane True and her band of merry men (err... and women?).
Most importantly, after 4 books, Anyan and Jane finally hooks up! and LOL we also find out that although Anyan is good at pretty much everything, his one single flaw? Anyan can't swim! Jane then teaches him of course.
We also hear some history to do Anyan's lover from a long time ago. (Not going to spoil it here so read it yourself! And word of warning? There isn't a happy ending to that one.)
This installment ends in a cliffhanger with Jane being alone to grieve the loss of her (immortal) friend, raise her army of soldiers and get Anyan back (he became the White King's vessel at the end).
I can't wait till she faces Anyan again since he'll likely be possessed by the White King the next time they meet!

Hi Ladies, I am quite sick at the moment, and even typing this is sapping all my energy. I will update with books and reviews one I get well/stronger, sorry!!
Michelle, I hope your son enjoyed his birthday party! He's a big boy now - all of 4 years! :D

I'll update the lists when I get on the laptop. Hubby's doingJ his yearly review stuff for work.
Thanks for the review Janelea. I will mark it up.

Hope your feeling better soon Lady Jaye, there's nothing worse than feeling poorly. We had a fantastic day yesterday filled with superheroes. A certain little boy has a Batman obsession.
Some good choices this week! I'm going to read my books soon. Hopefully get one finished today before date night ;)

Well that's a pest. Lots of little bugs in GR just now. It seems to be fix one bit, break a different 3 bits. I miss being able to look up the top user lists - I'm nosey that way ;)

Overall Rating: Approximately 3 stars
As anthologies go, this is definitely not one of my favorites, or one of the ones I liked much, even though it contains the work of two authors I dearly love.
The Britlingens go to Hell by Charlaine Harris - 2.5-ish stars
I don't follow the Sookie Stackhouse series, but I have read one or two Sookie Stackhouse novellas as part of anthologies, but... this was weird. I really don't know what to make of the story. I still remain puzzled as to what a Britlingen is :/. It was a readable story, definitely, but I while the Britlingens intrigued me, the rest of the story was...weird. Again, I really don't know what to think.
Angels' Judgment by Nalini Singh - 2.5-3. stars
Nalini Singh's writing usually works very well for me, but this time around it didn't. I was not at all interested in Deacon and Sara and was usually rolling my eyes when they were mooning over each other. I was a lot more interested in the plot, which promised interesting twists, only to be let down by the resolution. (view spoiler) But such as it was, I felt like all the plot twists were for naught. Eh.
Magic Mourns by Ilona Andrews - 2.5-3 stars
I have read about 98% of their published work, and this is the second Ilona Andrews that didn't quite do it for me :(. I didn't enjoy this one, because I didn't care too much for the characters. Unlike in Magic Dreams, where the authors were able to make me care about Dali and Jim in and of themselves, I realize I don't care much for Andrea except as part of Kate's world. I don't like the boudas, and I don't like Raphael, a realization cemented, funnily enough, after reading this novella. It makes me scared for Gunmetal Magic considering it took so long for me to be psyched about a book featuring Andrea. But we'll see, we'll see.
Blind Spot by Meljean Brook - 3-3.5 stars
Not quite 4 stars. This was my surprise favorite. I am only acquainted with the Guardian series trough one or two novellas I've read in anthologies, and some of my friends' reviews. I quite enjoyed this one. Geoff was a very interesting character, due to the nature of his ability, and I liked Maggie's narration. I enjoyed the characters I met. It was a well-written novella, and although I suspect things would be in better context if one had followed the series already, one doesn't need to follow the series to be able to enjoy the novella. Good stuff.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Bloodhound, Book 2 of Beka Cooper series
Beka Cooper is officially a Dog(ie. police officer), it hasn't even been a year since becoming a Dog yet she has managed to go through 4 partners, all for different reasons though, crooked, died due to plague...etc.
In this book, Beka goes off to Port Caynn with Goodwin on a mission given by Lord Provost (in Corus) to investigate distribution of fake silver coins. There she meets the head Rogue (like the Mafia boss in that area) and the Sir Lionel (Deputy Provost at Port Caynn district). Needless to say, she does her job and finds the person responsible (not going to say it here, though it is pretty obvious).
Beka saves Achoo, a scent hound with a cruel handler and thus becomes the hound's new handler. She takes Achoo to Port Caynn with her to help. Come to think of it, Achoo does most of the work here actually.
Pounce decides not to join Beka on her mission, claiming that he is needed elsewhere. Slapper, one of the pigeons which are friends with Beka flies along for the mission. Sad, but Slapper dies T___T Yup, it was mean of the author to kill off poor Slapper.
Also notable in this book is that Beka has a brief relationship with Dale but it ends at the end of the book. I'm actually glad for that since I still want her to end up with Rosto.
Its strange that I still love this series since in both book 1 and 2, it gets pretty obvious who the baddie is, yet I still want to read on even though I know roughly how the ending would go.
Will be starting the next book soon!
