I have finished my book, I just need to type up my review :)

It's no secret that i'm not a huge fan of Cat & Bones but I absolutely loved the Night Huntress World books, I was hopeful that these would fall into the latter category and I wasn't disappointed!
Vlad and Leila are absolutely perfect for each other, I really enjoyed this part of their journey and I can't wait for the next book. I was really happy when I got to the end and realised it would be an ongoing journey for the pair and not a quick one book HEA.

I'm not really sure what it is about the pair, I wouldn't say I don't like them it's just the books have always been a 3 or 4 stars for me.

Also, I have a question about the new shelf.
Can I use

I'm going to use Terrier (Beka Cooper #1) for my New2You series shelf. Turns out Bloodhound (Beka Cooper #2) is also on the favourite series shelf, so I'll use that instead, is that ok?
So

But don't worry, I'll probably be done with it either 2moro night or the day after, once i start a book, I can't seem to put it down till i finish.
EDIT: I'll start it tonight, GO TEAM!

Book: Web of Lies
Date completed: 7/3
Rating: 3.5 ★

I didn't like this book as much as the first one. Even though I liekd that Gin isn't a bleeding heart, I found her a little harder to connect with in this book. A big part of my issue was Donovan Caine, their little interlude in Spider's Bite, however contrived, didn't bother me so much. But the fact that Gin was so hung up on Donovan Caine bothered me, she seemed to remember their one night as being a whole lot more meaningful than I did. Aside from that, I enjoyed the book well enough, but there was too much complaining about what could have been with Donovan for me to give it 4 stars. I really liked Gin's connection with Owen Grayson and I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here with them. Owen's presense alone was almost enough for me to bump up my rating. Almost. I also enjoyed the flashbacks and learning more about Gin's history, and Fletcher's too. Overall, the Web of Lies was good and I will definitelty be carrying on with the series. Probably a little more enthusiastically now that Donovan is gone and Owen has entered the picture.

On the plus side - you'll never run out of things to read ;)

Donovan is annoying! Owen Grayson is one of my all time favourite things in literature! :)

Be careful what you wish for ;)

Terrier, Book 1 of Beka Cooper series
Beka Cooper series is a series in a line of series known as the Tortall series. I absolutely adore the Tortall series, these books are always so well written. Tamora Pierce never cease to amaze me with her world building techniques. Its great that there's a glossary and brief explanations at the end to explain things better for the reader, you won't be confused by the vocabulary used. This book was just as amazing as the other Tortall books.
Pigeons often carry souls, they are the Death God's messengers kinda thing. Beka has this unique ability of being able to listen to the souls the pigeons carry. Thus Beka often feeds these pigeons while listening in for info. (Shes also named a lot of em, Slapper, Ash...etc).
Beka is a Puppy (trainee) training to be a Dog (guard). This is like their version of police.
Beka is assigned to Goodwin and Tunstall who are great Dogs.
In this book, Beka solves 2 cases with the help of her Dogs as well as friends from the Court of the Rogues (name speaks for itself- a gang, mob, mafia, whatever you want to call it).
The newest case is the one where people are dying in batches of 9, all these people were desperate for work until they find work as a digger digging illegal fire opals. But its all hush-hush, coz theres limited places! Then what happens when they're done? DEATH obviously, to keep their mouth shut. Then, more people are hired for the next round and so on. It becomes obvious who's behind this soon and Beka plots to arrest them properly.
Then, theres the 2nd case, an older one that spans around 3 years. Kids disappear, a message is left demanding ransom. But how does the Shadow Snake know where to strike? Is the Shadow Snake always close by watching? From where? Well, I'm not going to say it here, but I'm just going to say how I love it when people always underestimate old women, it's like being old and being a woman practically crosses them off the list.
Its really sad that Verene had to die near the middle of this book, I wonder why the author decided to kill her off, she was a nice person after all...
And then theres Beka's cat Pounce, Pounce talks to Beka, not sure how, but they say Pounce is special, blessed, etc because of his purple eyes. I love Pounces little comments and behaviour. Sooo cute the way he just finds 2 kittens and plops it at Beka's friend's feet and goes "here, pet them, now leave me alone".
The title is Terrier because near the end they say that Beka's like a terrier, grabs on to a case and won't let go til its solved. Something along those lines, I'd say it's a fitting title for the book.
Will definitely be reading the next book!

Glad you enjoyed it!

I read

This book is rather unique in UF in that the book is actually focuses more on the police procedural elements than the paranormal elements, but I loved it to bits anyway. The main character is bi-racial, of African and British decent, and so his outlook on life is also slightly different than I have seen in a lot of the UF I have read. Loved it! Loved the multicultural cast, loved the London setting, loved the snark, loved the main character.... LOVED IT!!!

I hate when they do that! It doesn't take much to confuse me really so that's just cruel ;)

I'm curious what everyone will pick, I love shifters :)

I will be reading

*Full disclosure: I put this onto my 'currently reading' shelf last week, but I have been reading the other books on the shelf, and so haven't even cracked this one open.*

Re: shelf - I'm guilty of that too! Some books I put on the shelf then go to start & get sidetracked by something else entirely. You will know for sure if I've started it as I will have a page number or % figure.
I'll add it to the lists now :)

I'm nearly halfway through my book. I chose to put the anthology aside and read this one first. Sometimes I just want to read a paperback and not my kindle :)

I've had this sitting on my shelf for months but I couldn't bring myself to read it, then I noticed it was popping up on my updates feed as friends gave in and read it. I don't think anyone rated it less than 4 stars. So I gave in and I wasn't disappointed :)
Although I have always enjoyed these, I have found that I prefer the characters in the Mercy Thompson series and I love when they crossover slightly giving us a feel for the timeline & catching a glimpse as to what is going on with some old friends.
I was angry in the beginning with Charles & Bran & shouting at Anna not to give up, it certainly feels like she's starting to come into her own as a character now and isn't just tagging along anymore. I really liked the changes to this book, it's not just about the werewolves but instead we have Anna and Charles working with the FBI to hunt a serial killer. Lots of action, a few twists I saw coming but I really enjoyed it. It's good to see Patricia back on top form, this gives me hope for the next Mercy book!

I find myself in the minority of readers in that I fully side with Bran. I get Anna's point, but I think Bran and Charles' reasons were more important.

I understand where he is coming from, I just thought he was being too harsh with Anna in the fact that he completely dismissed her without even considering she maybe right. At that point I thought I was going to hate the entire book :)

How is everyone? You're all very quiet this week.
Real life has been very busy and it's eating into my reading time, which I hate but what can you do...
Hope everyone's well! I hope Mr.Randomiser is kind to us this week :)
