message 851: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Last month my library system had none of the options. This month it has all of them. :)

Had to place a hold for the A Burnable Book will have to read it as I get it though, since it's immensely popular here, and there are only 5 copies in the entire system, and they've all got holds on them. Which means I'll be reading it whether it wins or not. ha!

message 852: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Oh I hadn't thought about that. i looked to see if it was in my library, which it was, I forgot to check on reserves. As a new release it may have lots on it..better get my name on that reserves list.

message 853: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Phew. Thanks for bringing up the reserves, Darcy. I got in line. Two copies, one due back March 22, one due back late April.

message 854: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I had to go put in my hold too, I should get a copy late April.

message 855: by happy (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments My library system has three copies of A Burnable Book - so it shouldn't be any problem getting it - unfortunately my hold list is maxed out, so I can't put it on hold until something else comes in :(

This is my favorite Marston series - unfortunately he isn't hasn't written any new ones in a awhile. My hold list at the library is now full of his more modern serieses

Neither has he written any of his Restorian mysteries. Which is deeply disappointing. :(

message 858: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) How many holds do you have that you can't put any more in??

message 859: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Dawn wrote: "How many holds do you have that you can't put any more in??"

I was thinking that too! happy, you must have a lot of books on hold. lol

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments Dawn wrote: "How many holds do you have that you can't put any more in??"

We are limited to 15 - but 2 are ready for pick up, unfortunately 2 of the books I have out have to go back so unread (somebody else wants to read them, so I can't renew them (pout)) so they will go back on hold. There is also a limit of 15 checked out at anyone time

message 861: by [deleted user] (new)

happy is a lucky guy. I seem to recall that his spouse is a librarian. He probably has free reign at a certain library. ;)

message 862: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments When I was doing the polls up, I very nearly put this cover in for Conscience of the King
Conscience of the King by Alfred Duggan

That cover is so kitsch that it is a thing of beauty! :]
I especially like that the 5th century lady is dressed like a 50's movie star.

message 863: by Lia (new)

Lia (lia_mb) | 638 comments Difficult choice. All books for May reading are interesting.

Oh, only 15.....that makes sense then! I have a limit of 60 holds so I was thinking you were going a bit crazy! :)

message 865: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I think ours is 15 too. 15 reserves and 30 out at any one time.

message 866: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Ours is unlimited reserves and outs.

message 867: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I get 40 reserves, 20 outs, but it's broken down as 10 dead-tree, and 10 ebook/audiobook mix.

message 868: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Wow, now there's a surprise, Conscience of the King is now leading over The Song of Troy by 2 votes (as of right now as I post this message). It has been trailing by a couple until now and suddenly it is in front by two.

message 869: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments In the Medieval it looks like A Burnable Book will be our winner. It is too far in front to lose now.

A Burnable Book by Bruce Holsinger

message 870: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Brumback | 85 comments You guys! I get 6 outs, 6 holds!

message 871: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Nancy wrote: "You guys! I get 6 outs, 6 holds!"

Okay, that kind of sucks.

Terri | 19576 comments Nancy wrote: "You guys! I get 6 outs, 6 holds!"

What!!!!! Mate, I feel so sorry for you! You poor dear. :-(

message 873: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Since it clearly will win the poll, I think it is okay to reveal...

To coincide with the group read of A Burnable Book I am going to be doing an interview with the author Bruce Holsinger on the A&M blog, plus he will be joining in with us on the group read of his book.

He is looking forward to seeing people's thoughts on his book (and yes, he understands that the critique will include negative as well as positive) and I am looking forward to having his company in the discussion.

So there's that extra enrichment of the group read to look forward to. :-)

ANY library is no longer my happy place :( Sad news.

message 875: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I can hold 25 books. I am not sure what the limit on checked out books is. I know at times I have as many as 50 checked out. It all depends on how much time I let my girls spend picking out books that week. I am excited for the author participation in this group read! I had to search every library in the state of Minnesota for an available copy of this book! I finally found one!

yep, its a mystery. Not sure how much, but by the reviews, I'd say it is a strong theme.

message 877: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments I'll probably read this one; the library is in the process of acquiring it, so I don't know when they'll have it in but my name is on the list.

message 878: by Lia (new)

Lia (lia_mb) | 638 comments I don't know if I'll get *A Burnable Book* on time. Number seventh in the waiting list.

message 879: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I don't think I'll get mine for the beginning of the month but I should get it in May at least. I'm #6 but there are 4 copies....

message 880: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I have mine already. Picked it up from library on the weekend.

message 881: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I'm hoping for some early returns so I get mine in time.

message 882: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Apr 14, 2014 01:19AM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Oh, that is annoying. Somebody voted while I was away at the Doctors and now we have a tie in the Ancient.
I would have changed my vote at the last minute to avoid having three books as group reads...but I had to do a last minute trip to the doctor.

I can't split myself three ways into three discussions next month. Good luck to those on the Conscience of the King read. Hope it is a great read. :)
I will be reading A Burnable Book and The Song of Troy

Daniel (dward526) | 290 comments Terri wrote: "I will be reading A Burnable Book and The Song of Troy "

Those are going to be my reads as well.

message 884: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments That'll be nice to have you along on those two. :)

Terri | 19576 comments The JUNE Group Read Polls are OPEN!
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/5...

message 886: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) And what interesting books they are! :)

message 887: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Good. :) That's always the reaction I hope for.

message 888: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Gosh. Both polls are close this month.

message 889: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I definitely wasn't expecting the Medieval one to be this close. Thought for sure my pick would be out in no time.

message 890: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Corrag wasn't it? Yeah, I thought it would get its butt served to it on a shield by The Ill-Made Knight.

message 891: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Yep Corrag. Now it's doing so well, I'm hoping it wins!

message 892: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Me too. Mostly because it is the one I haven't read and secondly because I really, really, really don't want anymore ties!

message 893: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Yeah, too many books this month!

message 894: by Lia (new)

Lia (lia_mb) | 638 comments I am getting on Corrag band wagon also.

message 895: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Very good! I want it to win! :)

message 896: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Dawn wrote: "Yeah, too many books this month!"

That's the truth.

message 897: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments If Corrag wins, I hope it doesn't turn out to be fantasy.
I thought it looked non fantasy and it has been on my list for the polls for a while. The thread asking for recommendations on non fantasy witchy stuff prompted me to move it up the list.... but then Dawn mentioned the audiobook has the title Witch Light

That makes it sound like something fantasy might happen.

message 898: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Based on the reviews, I think we're safe. That seems to be more about witch hunt/wise woman in the historical sense, not magical.

message 899: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments That is my train of thought too.

message 900: by Lia (new)

Lia (lia_mb) | 638 comments I vote for "The Lion and The Lamb" for the other poll because I like the cover.

The Lion and the Lamb by Jenika Snow , The Lion and the Lamb. :)
