I can't source either of Ancient poll options, so I'm not voting on that one this month. But I've got a copy of Hawk Quest so I'm planning on reading that one :D

My library has two Michael Curtis Ford's books, but they're not the books we're voting for.
It's going to be Hawk Quest only for me.
I'm reading The Ten Thousand: A Novel of Ancient Greece right now. If it wins it will be the first time that this group will be reading something I've already read since I joined. Kind of exciting!
My new ebook copy says 'Published in the USA as The Republic of Vengeance'. For US people to try that title?Of Merchants & Heroes

Of Merchants & Heroes"
I found it on a book swapping site under the title The Republic of Vengeance as well.

My library system doesn't have it by either title. That's okay. Hawk Quest is probably as big as I can handle next month seeing as Old man Winter is kicking Canada's bottom.
If that one wins I will have to mention in the next group broadcast that it has a different US title. I did not realise. Genghis: Birth of an Empire is known as Wolf Of The Plains outside of the US. I used the US title for that one in the poll because I think we outside of the US know what book it is under either title, whereas it is less familiar to Americans as Wolf of the Plains.
Man, that Republic of Vengeance cover is so much nicer than the white cover...I wish I had realised. I would have use the US title in the poll.
Can you not the book cover in the poll? I suppose it might also change the title confusing the non-US folk?
I decided to change it to the Republic of Vengeance. I think it will help our US members. Especially when it comes to finding it on Kindle.I have always been too scared to change editions in case it wipes the votes. I did a test poll first. Voted on it. Then changed the edition. My vote stayed. So I went and changed the edition to the US one.
I felt the better cover was the one with swords, but the mosaic tile torso had the best story description.
The reason I don't like the white Merchants cover is because I always get it mixed up with Imperium's cover.
I would like to read republic of vengeance, but I cant seem to find it under either title....inter library loan, here I come. Thanks for the heads up it may have two titles
Daniel wrote: "I would like to read republic of vengeance, but I cant seem to find it under either title...."Me neither. :(
And I already read and really likedHawk Quest.
The polls will be up shortly.I am really pushing members out a challenge with a couple of the choices this month. Variety is the spice of life. And variety is what you'll get.
I hope you enjoy being challenged by the March Polls. Maybe you will find something that you would never have thought of reading before.
Polls we be up soon...
I am really excited to see what people think.I see Bryn has voted for the same two as I did *high fives Bryn*
I like your choices girl. :)
Fascinating. I own Leo, unread - how handy. I've had that Gedge on my wishlist for a while but got waylaid by its rival that I hadn't heard of.
While the period is in my wheelhouse, I'm hesitant to read another Pauline Gedge novel. I think the Tosca Lee novel's concept is interesting and holds promise. As for the other, I have a copy of Heresy and had it slotted for April, but since I can switch it out with another, and that leaves room for the other book to fit in my monthly read slot. I don't know if I'll be able to do that each month this year, but it's working out so far. :)
I had never heard of Iscariot: A Novel of Judas until yesterday when I was searching for the group read poll books.I don't even remember how I stumbled upon it.
I figured that we read enough about Norse, Anglo Saxon and Celtic religions, why not read about Judas? :)
I like the option. I had heard of it, but I think it's because it was one of those giveaways a year or so ago. AND my library has it. If it wins (maybe even if it doesn't) it'll be my first library sourced group read
I was surprised when I discovered my library had it too.I would have to buy The Eagle and the Raven if it won.
If Leo Africanus won I would have to buy it and if Heresy won my library has that one.
Wow, my library has all three of the ones I don't own. Holy cannelloni... it didn't have any of last month's reads. Win some; lose some I guess.
I am staying away of the two more religious sounding ones. So I voted for the other two, not sure what I'll end up reading in the end. Interesting choices, though. You were right in saying this poll has different choices than usual.
When I click on Leo, it brings up the book for a couple of seconds then refreshes and goes into never, never land - is anyone else experiencing this? Is this a new feature :)The other three books worked fine
Nope. I treid to duplicate your Leo problem.I sat and waited and waited and no refresh. Must be you. lol. :D
Good selections Terri. Had you rooting about id say.Easy picks for heretics like me ;) this month & also ive read Heresy

Same here, happy.
BTW, I've read Eagle and loved it.
Heresy and The Eagle and the Raven for me this month. I have one (Eagle) and I can get the other at my library.

Sure did. Took me two days of searching and searching and researching, before I settled on about five finalists, then eliminated most of those finalists to start all over the next day. lol
We've had two months with some action books, so I didn't want to include action books (ie The Ten Thousand: A Novel of Ancient Greece). That always narrows it down to stuff-all-of-nothing when it comes to 'Ancient'.
The Ancient Poll is a tough one every month.
Checked out The Eagle and the Raven. Not a cheap tree book to buy. Big book though, so I suppose I am more inclined to pay a bit more for a brick.Still...there is mention of love affairs in the blurb. I am worried about spending that much on a love story book. :(
Can anybody who doesn't usually read female authors and doesn't usually like books about emotional relationships, tell me how strong the chick stuff is?
I wonder if some of our members just cleaned out the last couple copies of The Eagle and The Raven.I checked yesterday - before setting the polls - and The Book Depository had the book for sale. Today it says 'try abebooks'.
So I check the Aussie place I sometimes buy from. They had it in their catalogue yesterday too. although it was considerably more expensive than the Book Depository price.
Now it is not showing in the Fishpond catalogue.
Huh?
Right. Have found the same, and I saw them in those shops yesterday.I'm browsing secondhands. As usual, factor in postage and not so cheap.
I just bought a copy on ebay. (wish I had seen Dawn's message first) :)They had three used copies on ebay - through World of Books - that sellers have in the UK.
Of the three they had a a couple 'good' condition and one 'very good' condition for an extra 45 cents. I bought the very good.
Works out at $13.45 delivered from the UK. It better be 'very good'. At least World of Books has a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Damn! Cheaper if I had gone direct to the World of Books website instead of dealing off them through ebay. I think it is free delivery via the website. Which means the books only cost $9.49 delivered instead of the $13.45 I just paid. Gosh darn it.
Oh well. Fellow Aussies. they still have two copies available in 'good' condition.
Well, if anyone else is interested. This is the book I found on Abebooks http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookD...Though there are also a few other copies on the site for only a $1 more.
Dear Terri, I just got one at World of Books direct. I'd seen a few there yesterday. For future reference, they seem to charge flat rate 2 pounds delivery to us.And thanks Dawn. That too might be cheaper direct from Awesome Books, who have free shipping to the likes of us on 2 or more books. I love Awesome, except twice books from them have gone astray.

Hi ya Bryn,
Maybe they changed their postage? I thought on their site it says free international shipping.
I will have to double check. Maybe they meant free international shipping for people buying through them from overseas.
If they charge $2 then I don't feel so bad about my ebay purchase. That would make it $11.49 on their website compared to my $13.42 on ebay. :)
Dawn wrote: "Well, if anyone else is interested. This is the book I found on Abebooks http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookD......"I am going to bookmark that Awesome books for future reference.
@Terri World of Books? Free UK delivery. Although in one place it just says 'free delivery'. International shipping two pounds per book.
You mean they ship free to the UK? Am I confused? Are you looking at the Australia World of Books site?
http://www.worldofbooks.com.au/
It says this in the shipping area: Free Worldwide Shipping: Free to anywhere in Australia and to the rest of the world.. Delivery times to Australia are 5-10 working days. Delivery times to the rest of the world may vary.
