Yes Bryn...I need some kind of new excuse. Bring on a long one Terri!

message 603: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Nov 04, 2013 10:31PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments So far. In the medieval, there is one of each. A long one and a regular length one (under 400 pages).

Should keep both camps happy during the voting at least. :)
And both SHOULD be readily available in libraries around the world (famous last words)

In the Ancient..I am still working on that one.

I'm with you, Alicja. I didn't participate to the last buddy readings because I haven't been able to find the books - if not buying them..
As for the December read, I trust your good taste, Terri, as usual!

Jane | 3480 comments Yes, Terri, you do have interesting choices!

Ok, I am intrigued...now to wait for the polls!

Terri | 19576 comments Locking myself away in a small dark room with a single burning candle, searching day and night for four tempting books to put before you all.
Makes it worthwhile when you like them. If you didn't there may have to be some self flagellating involved. :)

message 608: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments And we're eager beavers Terri can't wait it's the 6th today!!! Yay poll day!!! if we're lucky

message 609: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I have them ready to go. I am thinking of releasing them early. Seeing as the last couple months have been a day late. ;)

All what matters is that they have words that we read or words we can listen too. ;)

message 611: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Ohhhh yeahhh sure. You lot are so much more fussier than that. And that's a positive thing. One should be a bit fussy in their reading. :)

Daniel (dward526) | 290 comments Terri wrote: "I have them ready to go. I am thinking of releasing them early. Seeing as the last couple months have been a day late. ;)"

Ahem....waiting....:P

message 613: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I understand she's having problems deciding on the Ancient poll. So it's affecting the early poll idea. :)

message 614: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Yeah, Dawn got it. Early poll idea went out the window.

I usually release the polls to the wind the 6th or 7th, so I'll be releasing them today.

Let's see if we can't get you guys some good books to read over Christmas. :)

message 615: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments The polls are up and running!!!

message 616: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Nov 06, 2013 06:10PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Members who have been around a while, will see in the MEDIEVAL poll, that Pure by Andrew Miller Pure is getting another run out of the box.

I put it in a poll over a year ago. But the group has grown so much since then, that I decided to include some of these past losers from time to time.

message 617: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Disregard my private message then. Hahah

message 618: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments heehee. Disregard my reply then.

message 619: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Super-interesting, Terri, as promised. And I think I've just voted for the two 600-pagers. :D

message 620: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Good grief. I can see you do like to gamble. :)

I thought I would include a biggen' in each poll for those who want a door stopper to read over Christmas.

message 621: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Make that 800 pages for God of War. Luckily I've read 400 of them. :) I'd be happy to take up this paused book again, if it wins.

message 622: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I'll envy your head start if that one wins. :[

message 623: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I like the idea of giving another whirl to past losers now and then.

message 624: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Some losers do deserve second chances. :)

message 625: by Bobby (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments I had a second chance once.....

message 626: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) It's been a year and I still haven't read Pure, so I'm hoping it wins this time. :)

message 627: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Bobby wrote: "I had a second chance once....."

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Dawn wrote: "It's been a year and I still haven't read Pure, so I'm hoping it wins this time. :)"

Same here. Sitting there on the shelf, fluttering it's pages at me when I walk by.

message 630: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I think it is going to lose. Penman is powering.

message 631: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Damn, looks like a month for the loser thread then. Jane and I will read it, you should join us Darcy.

message 632: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I will! I don't think I can do two large books in December, and since I've read Stonehenge already, I'll try reading God of War: The Epic Story of Alexander the Great whether it wins or not, so Pure is in and Lionheart is out haha

message 633: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Go on then you losers. :)

I'll read Lionheart, although I voted for Pure.
I may see how I go. If Darcy is going to read God of War, then I might not read two big books in December. I might be able to talk Darcy into leading the Ancient discussion while I lead the Lionheart discussion. :)

But then, Stonehenge is far from knocked out.

message 634: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I'm sorry for Pure, now... I'd like to try that great style he's meant to have. If I run into a 2ndhand I will.

message 635: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments If I find myself looking for something different next year, I will too.

message 636: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments Bryn wrote: "I'm sorry for Pure, now... I'd like to try that great style he's meant to have. If I run into a 2ndhand I will."

Same here if the library copy doesn't come in by Dec. I've got my name in. Someone's got it checked out -- only copy in the whole 4 county LS!

message 637: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Guess what losers, I may be a loser with you...but I am not certain yet.

I had an unplanned trip to the library this morning. Was walking in passed the 'just returned' book shelf and what was sitting there calling me? Pure.

It is one of those large text for the sight impaired ones, but I got it anyway. I can't see how I will possibly have time to read it this year. I'll have to see how I go.

message 638: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Gee the Ancient one is going to be a close one right up until the end. It was tied, now Stonehenge is one vote in front.

message 639: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) That one keeps flipping back and forth. Hard to tell which will win.

message 640: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I'll have to keep a close eye on it. If there is a tie happening, I'll have to jump off my vote to break the tie. Of course the poll finishes while I sleep so I may have to get you or Darcy to break the tie for me. :)

message 641: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) When does it end?? What time on the 14th I mean?

message 642: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I think Midnight US time.

message 643: by Alicja (new)

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 657 comments I've already ordered God of War through my ILL, it will be the one I'll read regardless. :) Plus, it is Alexander!!

message 644: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I am surprised Stonehenge is doing so well. I kind of thought GoW would have been the more popular choice.
I liked Stonehenge a lot, but a lot more disliked it. If it wins, the feedback will no doubt be varied.

message 645: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (dward526) | 290 comments The medieval...not so close :)

message 646: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Much to my disappointment.

message 647: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Yeah. The Medieval was a big surprise. Looks like I will be forced to read a Penman.
I'll have to go into it with open eyes and if there is love story I am going to have to tough it out.

I read the first couple pages of Pure and it reads great. Kind of a pity it lost for the second time in the poll. Must be due to the macabre context. Maybe I should have put it in the October poll...for Halloween.
Oh well, too late now.

message 648: by [deleted user] (new)

Pure sounds awesome to me. I voted for Lionheart only because that's the only one of the two that I could get ahold of. I probably won't get to it though, as I'm going to read Stonehenge...win or lose. I'm going to keep trying to track down Pure.

message 649: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I was always stand offish with Pure due to the macabre context. It has slowly won me over this year and I think i am ready for the macabre. :)

message 650: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (dward526) | 290 comments I should be picking up pure this week, I am really looking forward to it.
