What an exciting mixture, as you call it, Yui. What were some of the different experiences you had in each place?

Animals in Australia, really neat stuff in Japan, and I've never been to Germany.

Of course. I should have realized :). What is it like?

Bailey Jane, that is a wonderful history. You must have learned so much living in such different environments. Which did you enjoy most?

Now you must reciprocate... :-)
I love the Midwest. If I had my choice, I would live in the city of Chicago or rural Iowa. I live in Chicago, but part of me misses rural or near rural areas. My parents still have a farm, although they don't farm (rent the land). My father has 10 or so acres in what was once rural Iowa City and now is in the city limits. It is gorgeous. Of course, they killed a bunch of trees when they decided they needed an 8 foot sidewalk on his side of the street (hey, nobody lives on that side). Very annoying. My father does not live there, he is in a facility and will not return to the house, but my sister and I cannot let it go. We do not have power of attorney though and the lawyer can sell it if he feels it necessary--he has been careful in recent years.
I would love to live in my father's house. Mostly to look outside at the landscaping. This was his hobby and stress relief (he was a research physicist at the University of Iowa and worked about 14 hours/day).
I loved Singapore the first couple of years, but once you've done everything, well, it gets dull and expensive and I ended up in the playgroup circuit. I made some good friends but it really was not my forte.
Our last house was part of an old banana plantation. We had a large yard by Singapore standards. We would have all the kids over and they would just run around and around. The landlord lived next door and asked me about the kids once. He saw obviously how much we loved the place. It was an okay how, not too renovated. Fun, but not home. It never was.
Okay, I've reciprocated. Jess

But visiting Australia, or Europe, or Asia would be really cool, not to mention, Antarctica!!

That sounds like fun. I always wanted to visit Australia and Europe. I have seen parts of Asia--Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and somewhere else I can't remember.

Blue Springs Missouri. yep, I can tell the excitement you all share with me. this place is SO stupid, I might kill myself if I have to stay here much longer.

I have quite a few connections. Ha.

Matthew, you've been everywhere. Which did you enjoy the most.
By the way, I lived in Ithaca about 4 years. What did you think of it?

My mother is of English, French and Danish descent.
My father is of English, German and Portuguese descent.
Those are all of my connections.

By the way Elena, sorry about the envy stuff!! :):)

My father's family can trace our lineage back to slavery some two hundred plus years, but we aren't sure what African country we're decendants of. Currently they're from Michigan, Tennesee, Alabama, Georgia & New York.
My brother, nephews, a few aunts and cousins are in Norfolk & Virginia Beach, Virginia
My mother's parents are first generation Mexican Americans. My grandmother was born in Des Moines, Iowa as her pregant mother, Maria, made her way to Detroit to meet with my great-grandfather, Paul, who was already here trying to make a new life.
They were from Aguascalientes, Mexico.
My grandfather's parents were from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. My great-grandfather, Miguel returned there after my great-grandmother, Alphonsa passed away.
If things go well, I'll be moving to Australia next year.
I am American. African American & Mexican by descent.

If we want to go farther back than that, my family comes from Wales, England.
I just joined this group and I'm looking forward to all the new discussions.

I'm from Bulgaria. I love my country because it's really really beautiful and if you have never came here, you must do it... The nature is wonderful!
I want to talk with people from different countries. The different cultures are very interesting for me>:)

I was born, raised and still live in Toronto, Canada. My father was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada after WWII when he was 18. My mom was born in Manitoba, Canada (bordering on North Dakota). My maternal grandparents came to Canada around 1912, when free land was being given away to encourage newcomers. They were from Poland, so my parents were able to speak to me in Polish until I went to kindergarten. Then I learned English and French. I studied German and French in university and am a French teacher. I have never been to Poland. However, my uncle (1 of my mom's 9 bros and sis)wrote up a short history of his family, going back to the Berbers in Europe. That is about all I know, so far.
Jess said "Bells, Where would you like to be?"
I want to be out of America, I can't say that I really liked America all that much. I'm DEFFIANTLY not patriotic.

IDK, I just don't... wait... god, THE TEXTERS ARE TAKING OVER MY MIND!!!
I'm from the big metropolis of Grayson, Kentucky. Population: 3,500. I did not love it when I was growing up, but I have a great affinity for it now that I live in Chicago. I love the language the people speak there and the unrushed style of daily life. It is very conservative, which doesn't match up entirely to my personality, but I appreciate the culture.
I've lived in Columbus, OH, Eatonton, NJ (briefly), and Chicago for the past 14 years.

Yui...you play tennis? What level are you? I'm between 4.5-5.0. Do you watch it? What did you think of the Aussie Open?

yes i love to play tennis! i've been playing since i was 5. i have no idea what level i am in but i watch the tennis games a lot. the Aussie Open was okay, but the US Open has more players that i know playing.
I once thought of writing a novel (fiction) about tennis. There really aren't many about it and even those aren't great. I'm not sure there would be a big audience for it, but it's something I might tinker with. I LOVE the game. Maybe we should do an addon about tennis...

(have never been to Ark).
I was born in Canada, but am from New England, mainly....
