Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all the ladies tonight for a great hangout. I had a wonderful time talking with you all as always.

We're looking at moving the Hangouts permanently to Monday nights and we're also going to make them after the official handout so we can discuss anything from that as well. That means the next Hangout will be November 5th, 8PM EST to discuss the October books.

Our numbers are such that we could handle a second hangout if anyone was interested in having one on a Wednesday night. It would be good if someone who is interested could take up organising that. :)

Don't forget to add me on Google+ if you're interested in joining us: https://plus.google.com/1031582445336...

Also we have a Facebook group, it's private but I'll add you if you ask to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/21251...

Thank you to those who have been responding to the event invites in any of the spaces, this makes it a lot easier to see what our numbers are in advance.

Mel.

Kirsten Bailey (klbailey) | 86 comments Thanks again for organising Mel! It was great chatting with you all. So sorry I had to take off early!

I think having the hangout after the official one is a great idea! Gives us more to talk about :) Monday nights are good with me too.

Stephanie Hey, I'm Stephanie from Darwin. I'd like to join the Australian hangout group, but I might not be able to read any of the books until November (because I have exams). I'll try though :)

What is the best way to join on Google+ for the hangout? Do I add someone (Mel)? Or do I post the link to my profile here?

Hi Stephanie and welcome. Yes the best way is to link your profile and I'll add you to the circle. I always post an event on google+ and once you're ready to join us you'll just need to say yes to that event. :D

You can also join us on FB if you like, the link is above in my last post.

Thanks for the thanks everyone, I love our handouts so I'm more than happy to organise them.

Georgia (geeoh108) | 17 comments Hey guys! a bit belated but I'm a Perthian... looks like im a little lonely over here =p~

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Welcome Georgia, I think we have one other person from Perth. :)

Okay guys, I'm official scheduling for Monday, November 5th, 8pm EST to discuss the October books. I've added the event on Google+ so you can let us know if you're coming or not.

For those who'd like to join us please post a link to your profile on Google+ and I'll add you to the circle so you can join us for the fun.

Just a heads up for those using Kindle. I couldn't get Poison Study for Kindle being in Australia, but it was available through other ebook sites like Google. I ended up borrowing it from my local library, they had both hard copies and ebooks versions.

Rosetta (rosettakatrina) | 22 comments Jasmine wrote: Your hangouts are pretty much the highlight of my month every month :D

I have to agree! I know it's not practical for people with busy lives, but I often wish there were hangouts more often. I sadly look at Google+ circle and wish I could talk to someone. It's just that no one I know IRL reads the kinds of books I like and wants to discuss them.

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Well this is something that can easily be done everyone. The US google handouts have two a month, one for the main and one for the alt.

I was wanting to have another but for the sword & laser book group.

Those are a couple of options if anyone is interested.

Both are great ideas Mel! I am definitely interested in a Sword and Laser hangout. I like the idea of separate hangouts for the main and alt pick, too.

message 174: by Rhapsody (new)

Rhapsody | 27 comments I am also interested in a Sword and Laser hangout since a few of their books are on my to-read list. However, might only be join in now and then if the book coincides with something I want to read.

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Great! How does Monday October 29th sound for a sword and laser hangout to talk about Cloud Atlas?

Hey Mel, I am going to pass on this one if you do not mind. Cloud Atlas is definitely on my to-read list and if I join in the hangout I will get spoilt.

I'm in SA, can I get in on this Aussie action :)
Michelle

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Hi Michelle, it's nice to have you with us. If you'd like to join our hangouts the easiest thing to do is give me a link to your google+ account and I'll add you to the circle and invite you to our next scheduled hangout. :)

You can also add me here: https://plus.google.com/1031582445336...

Celia (celiap) Hi all, I'm in Brisbane and would be interested in joining the hangouts :) Mel, I've added you and my g+ profile is https://plus.google.com/u/0/108598248...

I read Poison Study a while ago, will refresh myself on it :) Not sure if I'll read Master of Crows.

Would also be interested in the Sword & Laser hangouts but haven't read Cloud Atlas yet.

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Hi Celia, welcome. :D I've added you back. I'll also send you an invite to the event on google+ so you can let us know if you're going to make it.

Gah, I have night shifts on a Monday and Wednesday so I won't be able to make it which is a little depressing. Shall stay tuned for the main session hosted by Felicia Day and the others, which I think airs during the day on a Wednesday if I'm right. Does anyone know the exact time (East coast area-I live in Canberra). :)

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Okay Kiera, I've added you to the group and sent you an invite to the event on google +

I'm sorry to hear you can't join us Olivia. The Official hangout use to be on the last Tuesday of the month at 1pm. I haven't calculated the difference for daylight savings yet through and I think you're right that it might be Wednesdays now. *so confused*

I'm in queensland and the show airs live 1pm wednesday here but we don't have daylight savings.

So should be on in Canberra 2pm Wednesday 31st October.

Awesome thanks! I wasn't sure what timezone Felicia was hosting in, so I wasn't able to compare. :)

message 193: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten Bailey (klbailey) | 86 comments Wish I was at home when they have the hangout. Not sure it's a legitimate reason to call in sick to work :P

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Just a reminder for everyone that our Hangout is next Monday (Nov 5th, 8pm EST, don't forget daylight savings has started) Please make sure you let us know if you're coming or not as it will be by individual invitations this time.

We have 14 people currently coming so I'm going to have to organise a second group. Two people put their hand up last time, anyone willing this time around? It will need to be someone who can meet up with me a little earlier and has a complete VF Down Under circle list.

Finally if you aren't in my circle and want to join us please link your Google+ profile here and I'll add you to the circle and event.

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) It's been suggested that instead of having two groups for the Hangout this month we could have one Hangout, broadcast it live as Felicia does and then host a chat with everyone else. We could even have people swap in and out of the Hangout.

I know I can do this, but the big question is how does everyone feel about this. Would some of your prefer just to be involved through chat and not be videoed? Would some of you be sad if you couldn't be in the Hangout for some or all of the time?

I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons and wanted to see what everyone thought.

Mel (booksandsundry) (booksandsundry) Hi Everyone,

Thanks for a great night chatting about last month's books. I had a great time. Here's the link to the video from our Hangout. I've set it as unlisted, but anyone with the link can see the video. Please let me know if anyone is not okay with this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRGSBo...

The next Hangout is scheduled for December 3rd, 8pm EST. Remember to take day light savings into account.

Regardless of numbers, we're going to make this one first come gets in to the hangout, then anyone else can participate through chat on the Youtube page which will be linked on the night. We can do some swaps in and out as well.

If anyone new would like to join us please link your Google+ account for me here and I'll add you to the invitation.
