Carol Neman | 469 comments OMG, I haven't read that for the longest time, and it is one of my earlier favorites...so many books, so little time!

Heather (andshewontsleep) I don't remember ever reading Alice in Wonderland before even though I've seen a couple versions of the movie hundreds of times!

#58: Wuthering Heights

Carol Neman | 469 comments Heather, they always make Alice In Wonderland (into movies) but I've never known there to be a version of Through The Looking Glass. I wonder why.

Actually, there is a movie of Through the Looking-glass. :) It stars Kate Beckansale(sp?). :D

Arlene | 388 comments There is a wonderful edition of Alice that was done by the mathematician, Martin Gardner. The Annotated Alice The Definitive Edition It explores all of the hidden math riddles, etc in the original stories. Lewis Carol was a mathematician who made up the stories to entertain a child (a niece I think). After I read Gardner's version, I was amazed. (I have a degree in math myself and I love Gardner's books)

He made up the story to entertain the daughter of a friend (or maybe it was his boss?) named Alice. There have been suggestions that he did more than entertain young girls with just stories however.

Heather (andshewontsleep) Antoinette, that's my favorite version! I found it on DVD a couple of years ago and was so excited.

Heather, I only read this because it was on the 'Sale' table at the library, real cheap, and at the time everyone was talking about it. I didn't expect to like it more than average, but I ended up liking it about four stars worth. I especially liked her concept of 'heaven' and what happens after someone dies, and the phrase 'and then Heaven expanded' when the people left here on earth had another insight into the departed. I, too, am waiting to see how they present and visualize for us everything Siebold was able to convey with her superb writing style. I'm hoping it won't be another dead-person-trying-to-talk-to-the-living film, hackneyed and flat in presentation. I am expecting something magical, to equal the presentation in the book. We'll see.
