Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments Surprised you can still drink tea after what I did to a nice cup in my submission Ignite ;)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's not 'special' tea like that.

message 403: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments MTM, as someone who once actually wrote a letter to a cat, I'm looking forward to your poem too!

message 404: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments David, I've got to ask... was it a cat you knew or somebody famous like Top Cat?

Cheers

MTM

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Maybe it was fan mail. I would consider writing a fan letter to Garfield.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments What makes the Goodreads anthology such a fun project to work on is the fact that all the entries are so different. Most anthologies have a style or a theme. This one really is a bit of everything and it's fun to help something like that happen.

I'm going to regret telling this story... but yes, it was a cat I knew. She belonged to my downstairs neighbours, a lovely French couple, so I called their cat Amelie (long before I found out she was actually called Mishka). I was basically Uncle Dave to that cat, since I fed her almost every day and she would often spend the night asleep in my living room. When the neighbours moved out after many years, they could see I was heartbroken at never seeing her again. So they actually wrote me a letter as if it was from her ("Dear Uncle Dave"), telling me how happy she was in her new home with its big garden etc. And of course, I wrote back. Like you do.

A fan letter to a fictional cat? That would have been crazy!

I'm so glad you still feel it's fun. It's more of an imposition on your time than on mine - but you're the one who knows what he's doing!

message 410: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Re. the cat letter, David. Our son used to send post-cards to the mouse that lived in the garden. "Dear Scamp Mouse, please tell the Crusties indoors...." etc.
I have a friend who sends postcards to my chickens! See, that's why we all get on so well here.

Oh bless! What can I say. That's so lovely. I exchange letters like that with other people's two year olds but that's about it! ;-)

I'm sure they would write back to you.

How completely I've got you fooled.

message 415: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Janet's fish have thumbs! Or better typing skills than I have...

Do you know what would be even better than a stand alone Ward short?

A collection. :)

David, not many authors could make me set aside Steven King's to read their stuff. Be honoured.

I'm really pleased you'll be submitting in the anthology.

Get on it Mary. We need you too.

I liked it because it let me try something very different from what I normally write

message 418: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Well, I think all you're going to get from me are poems... but my hard drive blew up on Sunday night so I'm not sure if I'll be able to find anything.

Ho hum.

MTM

message 419: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Another scoop - I have just had a wondefully funny story from Andy Barrett - so very different from his usual hard, gritty crime thriller. It's a real gift to be able to turn to another genre and crack it so well. This is going to be such a good collection!

message 420: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Great news that it's coming along nicely. I still intend to contribute. Sorry to be a pain but when is the deadline again? Lol!

message 421: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments End of Sept Jonathan.

message 422: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Thank you. I promise not to ask again!

message 423: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm not taking bets! ;)

message 424: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments There. I put it in the thread title. ;)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Ignite wrote: "I'm not taking bets! ;)"

That would be an odd thing to put in the book - a section of bets...

message 426: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I bet she's considering it now.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments How much?

message 428: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments All I have is tuppence.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Well that is probably worth 20 euro!

message 430: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Thank you Patti. Why didn't I think of that? If I had a brain I'd be dangerous.

message 431: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments When is the deadline for this, please? ;)

message 432: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I'm up for contributing if you're still looking for submissions.

message 434: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Thanks, Patti!
OK, so it's the end of September, but of which year? ;)

message 435: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good point Jonathan.

Ignite, really.

You need to be more precise, woman!

Absolutely, Michael!

That'd be great! Just send a message to our all-powerful Ignite and she'll sort you out.

message 437: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments PM me Michael and I'll send you my email address to submit your offering.

Oh dear!

I didn't know we were supposed to be sending offerings along with our submissions!!!

Does this mean my short is going to be rejected!?!?!?

message 442: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Aug 23, 2012 08:29AM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Deedee cutie, I'm sure that Ignite will be more than happy with your submissiveness.

Now, any offers for watching Deedee be submissive?

How long have we had that?

Is it on the way to the dungeon?

I always thought that the dungeon was reached through a trapdoor hidden below the chocolate fountain

Next to the fish tank, which sits atop the wicked washing machine, in front f which lies my carpet, being guarded by Holly.

I thought Holly was doing something else to the carpet. Misty would join her & leave her toys all over the room as trip-hazards as well if you ask nicely.

I have poems and short stories I am happy to submit

There's a great bunch of stuff in there. Great as a 'dippy book', as I call them.
