DM Thoese books are Jay-me (Janet)s books not mine.

I did enjoy them though.

I think the best solution is for me simply to write something not aimed at children.

Perhaps that would be the easiest answer.
Maybe there are more children’s authors who would be happy to join you in a collection aimed at youngsters if you want to use it as a promotion

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Oh, must've misread! Then Janet has good taste! :)

Yup, I'll write something different for the anthology. Something historical perhaps, or humour. Anything that begins with an "h" really...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Humourical? Historous?

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Hispanic?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Histamine? Hysterectomy?

message 258: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I like the idea of having what the author is most known for in the book.

It's like a mix of everything we all love you for, y'know?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments An interesting discussion on rating. In general it is my view that books should not have ratings. Any child is capable of getting unsuitable material from far more convenient sources than a kindle book..

I have serious reservations about censorship and even on the few occasions I have asked people to remove posts on this forum I have subsequently believed I made the wrong decision and regretted it....

I should also add that I never considered the group book to be a promotional tool for authors. If it turns out to be so then that is a happy coincidence

I should say that Simon and I are in complete agreement on all the points he mentioned.

As he, you know, didn't mention that. ;)

message 261: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I'm glad I was right in viewing it that way. I was near scared of everyone coming back and saying it was the purpose of the book to help our authors get a lot of new readers (where as for me it's just a happy bonus)

message 262: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Phnark. Maybe we sholud drop the salamagundy and call it An Insane Pick n' Mix of stories. I think that'd be very cool.

Cheers

MTM

message 263: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Insane Pick and mix is the title of Volume Three MTM!

message 264: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I'm sorry, it does sound more like one of my books, I appreciate...

Cheers

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments even though i started it all this talk of insane pick n' mix makes me hungry..

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Bring back Woolworths...

message 267: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 817 comments I haven't submitted anything (am I too late?), but I just wanted to say that to me, the cover suggests that this book is suitable for children. In fact I think it would be attractive to children. So if it's 'anything goes' inside, there needs to be some sort of indication on the cover that this book isn't suitable for children.
Just my tuppence worth.

message 268: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Not too late Katie. Submissions welcome till the end of September.
That's the downside of a 'cartoon' style cover.

message 269: by Elle (last edited Jul 01, 2012 04:02AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I never even thought of that - completely true though!

message 270: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Yes, I agree that the cover would make me think it's a children's book, while the title would make me think it was a recipe book!

message 271: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Am i back to the drawing board then or do I put a 'may contain explicit material' sticker thingyme on there?

message 272: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments What does Ignite reckon?

message 273: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Dunno. I'm not keen to put Emma off and it hadn't occurred to me that a 'cartoon' type thing might imply children's stories.

Might it be less 'childish' without the eyes? Sad that, because I love them!

message 274: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nor I, Ignite. And the eyes are the best bit!

If it were up to me, I'd keep it as it is and do a good blurb.

Simon, any thoughts or have you used up your weekly allotment of thoughts at work last week?

message 275: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments So just hang a pair of knickers of one of the branches, or drip some blood down the trunk - I think people will get the idea. There's lots of adult themed cartoon artwork about.

I also love the eyes. What would be really cool is if it was animated and now and then they blinked....

message 276: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh now that WOULD be cool!

Get on that Emz!

message 277: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Which one, the knickers, blood or blinking? :-)

message 278: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The blinking!

Bloody knickers? Gross!!!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Do people actually choose kindle books by the cover? I mean, I don't think children will be browsing amazon and choosing the book for themselves, and adults should be looking at what they're buying for their kids...

message 280: by Kath (last edited Jul 01, 2012 09:39AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I don't think anyone will choose and anthology of stories and poems unless they look for it (or we tell them about it). I'm less worried than some.

message 281: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Tbh, people buying this book are going to be directed there by us or something else.

I don't think the cover matters that much. It's purely self indulgent for us :P

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I am not in the least bit concerned about a cartoon cover. I see no reason to put any sort of warning and unless the content is illegal or outright offensive it should be included on its merit. I have total confidence in the editor.........

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments But I am just one person with one view

message 284: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I use cartoon covers a lot. Nobody has ever complained that a child bought one by mistake.

message 285: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I shall write the blub which I'll use for advertising purposes in the short story/anthology section on Amazon as well as on the book's Amazon page and Goodreads page. I'll let you all see it before it goes up as this is a group thing. I don't intend to put in a disclaimer but there'll be no doubt it's a book for grown ups.

Encouraging to know that Rosen!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments The blub? snigger, snigger...

message 287: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You'll all be in tears!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Of laughter we hope.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Drowning in laughter? Or tears?

I just had an Alice in Wonderland moment.

Hate it when that happens.

You only have to go down the rabbit hole to find it.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Are there any rabbit holes on the island?

message 297: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not so much. Crab and snake holes though.

A few a-holes as well. ;)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments any Mad Hatters?
