I did enjoy them though.
I think the best solution is for me simply to write something not aimed at children.
Perhaps that would be the easiest answer.
Maybe there are more children’s authors who would be happy to join you in a collection aimed at youngsters if you want to use it as a promotion
Oh, must've misread! Then Janet has good taste! :)Yup, I'll write something different for the anthology. Something historical perhaps, or humour. Anything that begins with an "h" really...
I like the idea of having what the author is most known for in the book. It's like a mix of everything we all love you for, y'know?
An interesting discussion on rating. In general it is my view that books should not have ratings. Any child is capable of getting unsuitable material from far more convenient sources than a kindle book..I have serious reservations about censorship and even on the few occasions I have asked people to remove posts on this forum I have subsequently believed I made the wrong decision and regretted it....
I should also add that I never considered the group book to be a promotional tool for authors. If it turns out to be so then that is a happy coincidence

As he, you know, didn't mention that. ;)
I'm glad I was right in viewing it that way. I was near scared of everyone coming back and saying it was the purpose of the book to help our authors get a lot of new readers (where as for me it's just a happy bonus)
Phnark. Maybe we sholud drop the salamagundy and call it An Insane Pick n' Mix of stories. I think that'd be very cool.Cheers

I haven't submitted anything (am I too late?), but I just wanted to say that to me, the cover suggests that this book is suitable for children. In fact I think it would be attractive to children. So if it's 'anything goes' inside, there needs to be some sort of indication on the cover that this book isn't suitable for children.Just my tuppence worth.
Not too late Katie. Submissions welcome till the end of September. That's the downside of a 'cartoon' style cover.
Yes, I agree that the cover would make me think it's a children's book, while the title would make me think it was a recipe book!
Am i back to the drawing board then or do I put a 'may contain explicit material' sticker thingyme on there?
Dunno. I'm not keen to put Emma off and it hadn't occurred to me that a 'cartoon' type thing might imply children's stories. Might it be less 'childish' without the eyes? Sad that, because I love them!
Nor I, Ignite. And the eyes are the best bit! If it were up to me, I'd keep it as it is and do a good blurb.
Simon, any thoughts or have you used up your weekly allotment of thoughts at work last week?
So just hang a pair of knickers of one of the branches, or drip some blood down the trunk - I think people will get the idea. There's lots of adult themed cartoon artwork about.I also love the eyes. What would be really cool is if it was animated and now and then they blinked....
Do people actually choose kindle books by the cover? I mean, I don't think children will be browsing amazon and choosing the book for themselves, and adults should be looking at what they're buying for their kids...
I don't think anyone will choose and anthology of stories and poems unless they look for it (or we tell them about it). I'm less worried than some.
Tbh, people buying this book are going to be directed there by us or something else.I don't think the cover matters that much. It's purely self indulgent for us :P
I am not in the least bit concerned about a cartoon cover. I see no reason to put any sort of warning and unless the content is illegal or outright offensive it should be included on its merit. I have total confidence in the editor.........
I shall write the blub which I'll use for advertising purposes in the short story/anthology section on Amazon as well as on the book's Amazon page and Goodreads page. I'll let you all see it before it goes up as this is a group thing. I don't intend to put in a disclaimer but there'll be no doubt it's a book for grown ups.Encouraging to know that Rosen!

I would suggest simply stating the genre of each story in the contents, maybe in brackets or italics after the story title..."
I like that idea David.

You mean you fell down a rabbit hole and had a tea party?

I have the first few chapters of an updated Alice Through the Looking Glass somewhere.
